O! Frida. A one act play outlining a Mexican revolutionary and the most prolific female Painter of her times have been selected for the renowned ‘Alexandria International Festival for Contemporary Theatre, Egypt’. Previously featured in ‘International Youth Theatre Festival Vreme 2015 at Bulgaria’ this unique creation is directed by Abhishek Deshmukh. The play is Performed by Krutika Deo and Produced by AAIBA. This is now being stated that the Marathi theatre is again proving itself of having a great future worldwide.
This play defines a journey of a woman artist named ‘Magdalena Carmen Frieda’ later became famous as ‘Frida Kahlo’. She painted her painful emotions through her self-portraits as her identity. The play takes Kahlo’s spirit on the stage and communicates with the audience – leading them through and internalized act of her life, like a kaleidoscope.
Abhishek Deshmukh, an architect by education and full time theatre practitioner has written this play, keeping the various visuals in mind about Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. Abhishek is also lead actor on Zee Marathi’s famous serial Pasand aahe Mulgi.
Krutika Deo, graduate in Indian Classical Dance, holding the degree of ‘Visharad’, has been active in theatre since her school days. This young girl has been a part of many national and international festivals and stunned the stage by her outstanding performances. With her exceptional feats, she is now a budding talent in the Marathi as well as Hindi Cinemas’.
