Poshter Boyz – laugh riot film about three villagers has won prestigious Zee Comedy Awards in various categories. Poshter Boyz team collected trophies in categories like- Hrishikesh Joshi (Best Actor), Neha Joshi (Best Supporting actress), Sameer Patil (Best Director) and CHarudatt Bhagwat (Best Writer). Best Actress was given to Sonali Kulkarni for her exemplery acting in Aga Bai Areccha2 and Vaibhav Mangle took the trophy as Best Supporting actor for Timepass 2.

In Theatre category, All The Best 2 was selected as Best play and Devendra Pem as a Best director. Best Actor was given to Mangesh Kadam and Best Actress to Leena Bhagwat for Gosht Tashi Gamatichi. Best Supporting actor was given BHushan Kadu (Circuit House) while Pooja Nayak won Best Supporting actress for Pahile Pahil. Juree Award was given to Mayuresh Pem (All The Best 2).

Famous writer Gangaram Gavankar were awarded Lifetime achievement Award for his comedy writing. Ramdas Futane and Kantabai Satarkar were also honoured by Special Awards.

The event was full with Marathi film and theatre personalities. Pushkar Shrotri and Makrand Anaspure hosted the event. Sizzling dance performances by Neha Pendse, Mansi Naik and Pooja Sawant were enjoyed. Highlight of the evening was a dance performance on Kishore Kumar’s song medley by Sachin, Shruti Marathe and Sanskruti Balgude. Comedy skits by Santosh Pawar, Kamlakar Satpute, Sameer Chaughule, Vishakha Subhedar, Hemangee Kavi and Siddharth Jadhav made the audience

The event will be broadcast on 12 July at 6:30 pm on Zee Talkies.

Shreyas and Deepti Talpade’s Affluence Movies Pvt. Ltd. announced that it had joined hands with DAR Motion Pictures to co-produce the sequel of its Superhit Marathi Film ‘Poshter Boyz’ titled ‘Poshter Boyz 2’. The film will also mark the directorial debut of Actor-Producer Shreyas Talpade and will feature the original Poshter Boyz trio of Dilip Prabhavalkar, Hrishikesh Joshi and Aniket Vishwasrao. Shreyas has already starred in Hindi and Marathi movies and produced Poshter Boyz.

Shreyas Talpade said, “From the day we decided to produce ‘Poshter Boyz’, we knew it would become a franchise. The overwhelming response the movie received on its release only further validated this. ‘Poshter Boyz 2’ will not just push the canvas of the franchise but also aims at doubling the entertainment quotient. Furthermore, I have through my career in films always been fascinated with the art of direction. ‘Poshter Boyz 2’ is the perfect platform for me to take the plunge.

Poshter Boyz revolved around an incident of three ordinary people who, to their surprise, found their pictures on a poster promoting vasectomy and how that error changed their lives around.

Vivek Rangachari, Producer DAR Motion Pictures commented, “We have always been very bullish about the Marathi film industry. Infact the very first film we produced was Lalbaug Parel before moving on to produce a whole host of Hindi films along with Teechaa Baap Tycha Baap and now the highly anticipated Baji. Story Outline :

In Vadaner village, the lives of the aged, highly respected Jagan Deshmukh (Dilip Prabhavalkar), school teacher Sadanand Kulkarni (Hrishikesh Joshi) and youngster Arjun (Aniket Vishwasrao) come crashing down after their photos are printed on a poster encouraging Vasectomy (Nasbandi) without their knowledge. Now the trio must find the culprit responsible for printing their photos before it is too late.

Review :

Most of the times, when comedy is born out of a serious issue, the humor takes a backseat at some point in the film, mostly the latter part of the second half. But debutant Sameer Patil’s Poshter Boyz doesn’t fall in that category. The film achieves a rare feat of being a laugh-riot for the entire duration despite the fact that it also raises few important social issues.

Confusion comedies are not novel by any means but Poshter Boyz manages to stand apart due to the subject of Vasectomy, which is unheard of, and the smart manner in which it arrives at the main point. From here on, the fun just doesn’t end.

Generally, we associate a laugh-riot falls with mindless or slapstick comedy. But this is a rare example of a non-stop laugh-riot only using sensible situational humor. And when your laughter doesn’t fade even long after the joke, you know it is a huge achievement for the writing, more so when the humor is maintained even during serious situations.

This is not the only reason why Poshter Boyz works. Just like Satish Rajwade’s Popat, this film also manages to present a sex-related social issue in a manner that not a single family member of any age group would feel awkward (The film is nowhere similar to Popat though). The only drawback here is that it treads on the tried and tested route in the closing moments. However, this isn’t a big issue.

Composer Leslie Lewis makes a successful Marathi film debut with this film. The song ‘Deva Deva’ is a sheer pleasure as it skillfully mixes three different genres – spiritual, romance and lawani – in one song. The title track and ‘Kshan’ also score high marks. Pushpank Gawde makes a mark with his artistic camerawork even during simple situations. The background score is effective, although unnecessarily loud at times.

A film of this genre requires skillful comic timing and that is exactly what the actors present. The ever-reliable veteran Dilip Prabhavalkar once again gives a thoroughly mature and sensible act. He underplays himself during the comic moments, which works well. Hrishikesh Joshi continues from where he left in Yellow with another terrific performance. He portrays humor born out of frustration brilliantly. Aniket Vishwasrao is perfect as the hot-headed youngster.

Neha Joshi, as Kulkarni’s wife, is first-rate as an angry, frustrated wife. Pooja Sawant does what was asked from her and looks mesmerizing. The rest of the actors provide decent support.

Overall:

Poshter Boyz is a rib-tickling laugh-riot with a timely message. The positive word-of-mouth coupled with a good promotional strategy will make it a winner at the box office.

Shreyas and Deepti Talpade are back as producers after a hiatus of six years with the Sameer Patil directed Poshter Boyz. The film has an ensemble cast of Dilip Prabhavalkar, Hrishikesh Joshi, Aniket Vishwasrao, Pooja Sawant and Neha Joshi. The producer duo gets talking exclusively with us over their experience of making the film and other interesting things.

How was the experience of being the producers for Poshter Boyz? How challenging was it?

Shreyas: The idea about the film was right and things started falling into place. It was challenging though. The task now is to promote and make sure it reaches out to every household in Maharashtra. This is the toughest part for any producer. But creatively if you ask me, it has been a really satisfactory experience.

Deepti: It was very good. I am sure everyone says the same thing (laughs). Sameer (Patil) narrated the idea in last July and now we are ready with it after a year. It was a joyride. We had properly planned the pre-production. We were going to get rolling in December but since Dilip kaka (Prabhavalkar) was available in January, we also got time in December to plan. Hence, we were able to complete the shoot in 25 days. So there was no such stress. Talking about challenges, every day was a challenge.

Weren’t you tempted to act in Poshter Boyz?

ST : (laughs) It definitely crossed my mind. In fact, Sameer (Patil) suggested that I should essay the character played by Aniket Vishwasrao. But when we started developing the screenplay, I realized I won’t be able to do two things simultaneously. I had to make sure the director gets everything he wants. Plus, we had to complete the film in a limited time. And there are good actors around. It doesn’t make sense that since I am the producer, I should also act. It is like, it’s my bat so I will do the batting (smiles).

What is the USP of Poshter Boyz?

ST : It is the originality of the concept. Just imagine – if you visit a police station to complain about something and you notice your own photo listed there as a pickpocket, how would you feel? Similarly, if that photo is pasted everywhere in the city, how would you react? Your friends will believe you, but what about others? Such a thing happens with the characters of Poshter Boyz and it creates problems in their families. This is its USP.

DT : The USP is the fact that Shreyas has produced a Marathi film (laughs). The concept itself is the USP. When I heard it is a confusing drama about three people, I thought it must be about extra-marital affair. But then I came to know it is about Vasectomy (nasbandi), a subject that is unexplored. So this is the film’s USP.

Did you ever have any difference of opinion with Shreyas?

DT: No, because I am the boss and the boss is always right (laughs). Once Avadhoot Gupte said in an interview that generally every debate has two sides but when it comes to him and his wife, there is only her side, which is always right. So there is no scope for argument (laughs).

What is your opinion on the current scenario in Marathi cinema?

ST: It’s very good. We have new breed of filmmakers coming in with varied subjects. The reason why people are experimenting with newer subjects is because the youth has started patronizing Marathi films. They are proud of Marathi cinema and this has motivated filmmakers.

DT: It is doing really well. People of Maharashtra have always supported theatre. But now they have also started supporting Marathi films so much that now we have also started speaking about film’s opening. I really hope more people go to watch Marathi films in theatre, not just my film but also other films; like have Rama Madhav and Rege coming up now. If we are expecting good content from Marathi films, then the audience should also show enthusiasm towards it.

What are your forthcoming films?

ST: As a producer, I am only focusing on Poshter Boyz right now. I am acting in a Hindi film called Wah Taj. I am doing a Marathi films Baaji. There is another film that will start in October.

A name like Dilip Prabhavalkar needs no introduction. The veteran artist has been continuously displaying his acting skills since decades and is still going strong. Continuing his streak of trying out different types of characters, he will now be seen in the light-hearted comedy Poshter Boyz. Apart from his latest film, the actor gets talking about the current scenario of Marathi cinema and what keeps him motivated.

What character are you playing in Poshter Boyz?

In Narbachi Wadi, I played a Konkani farmer; in Poshter Boyz I am playing a Ghaati (hailing from ghaats) farmer. My character is from a well-to-do, cultured family who commands respect from everyone in his village. The other two Poshter Boyz – Hrishikesh Joshi and Aniket Vishwasrao – are from a different cultural background, nature and age group. Situation unites all three of us when our photos are displayed on posters promoting Vasectomy (nasbandi) without our knowledge. This ensures that my daughter’s marriage gets cancelled. Hrishikesh’s married life turns problematic. Aniket’s character is also married; his father-in-law freaks out after seeing his photo. So all three of them set out to find out who carried out this injustice to them.

What was the particular reason for signing this film?

I got a chance to play a different character in Poshter Boyz. Even the humor is different due to the situation. So I instantly agreed for it. I don’t like repeating any role. After Lage Raho Munna Bhai, I received 10-15 offers to play Gandhi again. Obviously, I refused all of them. After that film, whenever a director or producer used to start his narration by saying he is doing a film on India’s freedom struggle, I used to cut him and ask, “Are you offering me to play Gandhi?”

You are still seen regularly while playing prominent characters. What keeps you going?

What keeps me going? (laughs) It’s the chance of playing different types of characters. The more characters you explore, the more you search for new characters to play; characters with different shades. It’s always a new challenge. There is no saturation point. New characters keep coming. For example, I did Lage Raho Munna Bhai because I had never played Gandhi before. There is always a challenge to mold yourself in a different character. So that keeps me going.

What is your opinion on the current scenario in Marathi cinema?

I am very happy with it. People are coming up with newer subjects with the recent examples being Fandry and Yellow. Even Poshter Boyz is a new experiment in comedy. There is a lot of scope for creativity in Marathi cinema. It is also good to see filmmakers not getting stuck in the same circle.

What are your forthcoming films?

I have few films in Marathi like Viti Dandu, which is set in pre-independence era. I play the only upper caste individual in a village. Then I have Nagarik alongside Sachin Khedekar, it’s a political thriller. It also has Dr. Shreeram Lagoo and Milind Soman. In Hindi, I am doing the sequel of Ab Tak Chhappan. It has Nana Patekar, Vikram Gokhale, Mohan Agashe and myself.

Baji, a first Marathi film featuring a superhero played by Shreyas Talpade has already creating curiosity among audience. Eagerly awaited first look for the film will be released on 1st August along with Poshter Boyz. Baji is directed by Nikhil Mahajan and main lead is Amruta Khanvilkar, and the villain will be played by Jitendra Joshi.

Nikhil Mahajan commented that, the first look will be released on the social media, in theaters and on all platforms on the same day.

Incidentally, Poshter Boyz was supposed to release on 11 July. However as release date was clashing with Riteish Deshmukh’s Lai Bhaari, hence the release was postponed. The grapevine says that due to clashing of this release dates have created rift between Riteish and Shreyas friendship.

A Mumbai based start-up “Network People Services” has tied up with Spanco and Department of Technology (DIT), Government of Maharashtra to offer Movie Distribution and Marketing services across the entire chain of DIT controlled “Maha eSeva Kendras”. The Kendra’s along with SETU and Sangram Kendras form the Physical backbone of Government Service delivery. There are more than 25,000 physical touch points across the length and breadth of the State distributed amongst these three Delivery outfits. Everyday more than 2 Lakh+ citizens walk into these Service delivery points and avail Government Services.
