Maharashtracha Favourite Kon- has become a very prestigious award ceremony in recent years. This year, Sairat has won maximum awards in this ceremony. Akash Thosar and Rinku Rajguru has won best actor and actress respectively. The televised show will be telecasted on 19 March at 7 pm on Zee Talkies.

The awards were given based on the audience votes. Nagraj Manjule received best director for Sairat. Zingat and Atach Baya Ka Bawarla received best song. Best newcomers were also bagged by Akash and Rinku. AKash also won Style Icon while Rinku received Popular Face of the Year. Chhaya Kadam and Tanaji Galgunde received best supporting actors or their roles in Sairat. Best villain was given to Sachin Pilgaonkar for his portrayal of a classical singer in Katyar Kaljat Ghusali.

The show was hosted by Shreyas Talpade and Amey Wagh. The ceremony had dance performances by Sai Tamhankar, Rinku Rajguru, Mrinmayee Deshpande, Sanskruti Balgude, Mrunal Thakur, Akash Thosar and Vaibhav Tattvavadi. Additionally, skits were performed by Atul Todankar, Abhijeet Chavan, Priyadarshan Jadhav, Pushkar Shrotri, Prajakta Hanamghar, Meghana Erande.

The most successful film on the recent years Sairat will be premiered on Zee Marathi on 2 October at 7 pm. The film is directed by Nagraj Manjule and stars debutantes Rinku Rajguru and Akash Thosar in the lead roles.

The film was released theatrically on 29 April all over Maharashtra. The film was declared as a blockbuster within the first week and continues to draw audiences to the theatres. The newcomers have become very popular among the youth. The film also became a milestone as first Marathi movie to enter in the 100 Crore club. All the four songs from the film became chartbusters and the composers Ajay Atul became most-sought music composers in India after the release of this film.

The film has been produced by Zee Studios and will be seen on the small screen on 2 October. The film also stars Arbaz Shaikh, Chhaya Kadam, Tanaji Galgunde, and Suresh Vishwakarma.

There is a good news for Sairat fans! The wax sculptures of Rinku Rajguru and Akash Thosar along with the director Nagraj Manjule will be placed at Lonavala Wax Museum.

Rinku and Akash, known as Archi and Parashya from their superhit film Sairat will be a part of this wax museum. This museum has been created by Sunil Kundaloor and will be one of the major tourist attractions in the coming future. Sunil Kundaloor has already taken the measurements of these actors and the work will be finished in the next two months.

Sairat broke Natsamrat’s box office record of Rs. 41 crores in just 11 days. Its popularity literally spread like wild fire in Maharashtra, other cities in India and even abroad. People couldn’t help themselves from dancing to the tune of Zingat. Such love for a Marathi film is surely unparalleled.

After the success party that was held to celebrate the breaking of Natsmarat’s record last month, another success party was organised by Zee at the upscale Trident hotel at BKC in Mumbai. The cause for celebration was that Sairat has reportedly earned not only more than any Marathi film, but more than any film in any language in Maharashtra! And that is no mean achievement. By leaving the mighty Bollywood and Hollywood behind, Sairat has given Marathi cinema the confidence that given the right content and promotion, it can compete with any film industry. Veteran actor Sachin Pilgaonkar was given the honour of congratulating the team of Sairat for their unprecedented success. Ajay-Atul, Ankush Chaudhary and Amruta Khanvilkar and other stars of the Marathi film industry were also seen in attendance at the party.

Another major reason for the organization of the party was an important announcement made by Zee. The remake rights of the film in all the four South languages – Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu – have been sold to Rockline Venkatesh. Rockline Venkatesh is a major producer from the South who has produced 40+ films and has also produced Rajni’s Lingaa. They will be starting by remaking the film in Telugu first.

A revelation that took everyone by surprise last night was that Nagraj’s mother tongue is actually Telugu. However, he had an inferiority complex about his mother tongue so never really spoke it well. But, now, he said that he has an opportunity to go back to his roots by directing the Telugu version of Sairat.

The now popular web series ‘Casting Couch’ has Amey Wagh and Nipun Dharmadhikari in it trying to convince actors to act in their film by inviting them on their couch and hence the title ‘casting couch’.

The 4^th episode in the series has the two of them going all the way over to Sairat director Nagraj Manjule’s home. The episode begins with the two of them ringing the bell of the house and getting shocked to see the door being opened by Rinku Rajguru and Aakash Thosar instead. As they enter the house they hesitate on seeing Sooraj who played the role of Prince in the film. Prince takes a seat on the interviewer duo’s sofa and invites them to sit next to him, but both of them decline out of fear.

Nagraj Manjule then comes in to the living room and a rather humorous conversation starts between them. Nagraj tells them what he looks into while casting his actors. Ameya sensing the opportunity tries his level best to make a case for him being casted in Nagraj’s upcoming film. They even ask Rinku and Akash about their future plans. Ameya even suggests Aakash to quit acting so that there would be lesser competition for him and other struggling actors.

Amey then notices that all of Nagraj’s actors stay with him after acting in his films. Amey insists that he shall start staying with him already so that he will end up getting casted in Nagraj’s film. Despite Nagraj’s refusal he keeps on insisting and only runs out of the house when Prince comes out of the kitchen with a knife in hands.

Nagraj Manjule’s Sairat has been creating box office history by each passing week. The tale of two lovers has already crossed 70 crores collection on the box office which is a box office record for Marathi film industry. Though these numbers are just for the third week collections and as the shows are still running house-full in almost every town in Maharashtra, the makers are hoping that the film is set to create another record at the box office.

The producers have also awarded bonus of 5 crores to lead cast of the film – Akash Thosar and Rinku Rajguru. The other cast and crew will also receive similar bonus. It has to be noted that Manjule made this film only pn the budget of 4 crores and Rinku and Akash were signed for less than 5 lakh initially. However, as the film has started printing money at the box office the producers at Zee Marathi felt that the cast of this film deserves to be a part of the amount as well. Many artistes from the industry have expressed that this is indeed a nice gesture and a good initiative by the producers.

Timepass 2

Ravi Jadav is a star director of marathi cinema. He has only given superhits to the marathi film industry. Natrang, Balak Palak, Timepass all were huge hits. But the sequel to Timepass was a bigger hit than all the previously mentioned films. The film rode on the popularity of the first film. It supposedly earned close to Rs. 35 crore at the box office.

Lai Bhaari

Ritiesh Deshmukh debuted in the marathi film industry with a bang. Directed by Nishikant Kamat, Lai Bhaari was an instant hit. It used all the tropes of usual commercial Indian cinema and came up with a winner of a film. The music by Ajay-Atul was also popular. Lai Bhaari also earned close to Rs. 40 crores at the box office, but supposedly a little less than Katyar.

Katyar Kaljaat Ghusli

Again an adaptation of a classic Sangeet Natak, this film that released in 2015 had enthralled one and all. The delectable classical music and the solid story was a winning combination. Great performances by Sachin Pilgaonkar and Subodh Bhave further lend the film the much needed push at the box office. Produced by Zee studios, this film also approximately earned close to Rs. 40 crores at the box office, but supposedly a little less than Natsamrat which also earned from shows in US and other countries.

Natsamrat

The Nana Patekar starrer melodrama adapted from a seminal play by the created a furor at the box office at the beginning of the year. The story of a retired thespian being ill-treated by his own children touched the heart of Maharashtra. Nana Patekar gave one of his best ever performances and impressed one and all. Produced by Great Marathi Entertaiment, Fincraft Media and Gajanan Chitra and distributed by Zee, Natsamrat was till a few months back the highest grossing Marathi film with a collection of approx. Rs. 40 crores.

Sairat

Even two weeks into its release, Sairat still has the whole of Maharashtra under its spell. People are still queuing up outside cinema halls in every nook and corner of the state. Within 2 weeks itself it has broken the all-time record of a marathi film’s collection at the box office. The epic love story with a tragic end has struck a chord with the classes as well as the masses of Maharashtra. Ajay-Atul’s music is superhit! sairat has the rare distinction of being the film that has won over the critics and the audiences alike. It has grossed Rs. 41 crore till now and the numbers are still pretty much steady. Most trade analysts are not counting off Sairat crossing the Rs. 60 crore mark, with the Rs. 50 crore mark well in sight. This is a massive jump from the second highest grosser of Rs. 40 crore. This shows that the film is working due to its content and not only due to the massive promotions by Zee.

Sairat has managed to break the box office record for the first week for a Marathi film. It has grossed a whopping Rs. 25.5 crores in one week!

Sairat had broken the first weekend box office record of  as well by grossing Rs. 12 crores. Generally, after the hype of the promotion dies down, a film doesn’t register as much collection after the weekend is over. But this has not happened with Sairat. Yes, it was massively promoted by Zee, but the word of mouth of the film is very positive. This has ensured that the theatres remain full on weekdays as well. Theatres have actually increased the number of shows of the film in the second week – a rare feat in today’s times indeed.

Another special feature of the release of Sairat is that it was released outside Maharashtra in cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, NCR, Surat etc. and the film has done well there also. It has entered the second week in most of these cities.

The previous record of Rs. 15 crores for one week collection was held by Natsamrat which Sairat has overtaken by a mile. Trade analysts believe that the film is on its way to become the highest grossing marathi film ever and they predict that the lifetime box office collections will be Rs. 50 crores.

Now, this certainly is very good news for Marathi cinema which hasn’t had a clear box office hit post Natsamrat.
