Swapnil Joshi Starrer ‘Mogra Phulaalaa‘ has received very good response from the audience. The film is doing very well in the theaters in Mumbai, Thane, Pune to watch the family drama, which has been subtly narrated. The film registered the business of Rs 37.5 lakh on the first day of it released, followed by Rs 56.2 lakh on Saturday, the second day of the release. Despite of the much hyped cricket match between India and Pakistan on Sunday, June 16,  the film registered the business of Rs 51.5 lakh. The business for first three days was pegged at Rs 1.45 crore.

The response to the film has compelled the producers to increase the number of shows in multiplexes and theaters says Arjun Singh Baran and Kartik Nishandar of GSEAMS Films. Directed by Shrabani Deodhar who has made cult classics in Marathi cinema like ‘Lapandav’ & ‘Sarkarnama’. The film marks debut of Sai Shakti Anand into Marathi cinema who had been seen in popular Hindi serials.

Leading actors from Marathi industry Nina Kulkarni, Chandrakant Kulkarni, Anand Ingale, Sandeep Pathak  too have contributed to the rich production values of the film. Koti – a film about transgender has received appreciation in many film festivals is ready for its theatrical release very soon. The film is directed by Suhas Bhosale. His recently released Reti has received positive feedback from the critics.

The film stars Adnyesh Mudshingkar, Divesh Medge, Sanjay Kulkarni and Vinita Kale in important roles.

The film has won many awards including Indian Film Festival of India (IFFI) in the IndIan Panorama category, Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Jury award,  Sanskruti Kaladarpan Puraskar Award for Special  Attention Film Award along with  four other awards in the same awards, and five awards in Kolhapur Film Festival.

The story revolves around two brothers who share a sensitive relationship and how they fight against societal norms. Barring a few exceptions such story on transgenders has not come in Marathi films and KOTI is going to make a mark with his subject.

The story screenplay and dialogues of the film are  by   Rajesh Durge. The DOP is Bharat R Parthsarathi. The music composer is Manoj Negi and background music has been composed by  Baban Adgale and lyrics are by Sanjay Navgire. Sonalee  Kulkarni who has been noticed in films like ‘Natarang’ ‘Bakula Namdev Ghotale’, ‘Classmates’, ‘Ajintha’, etc. is now all set to wow the audiences in her forthcoming much buzzed film ‘Poshter Girl’. We spoke to the fair and green eyed beauty at a press meet of the film. Here are some excerpts.

There are a lot of expectations from ‘Poshter Girl’. What are your views?

Yes. It’s the second film directed by Sameer Patil after his successful debut in ‘Poshter Boyz’ and it’s backed by a leading studio like Viacom 18 and has a medley of a leading cast like Hrishikesh Joshi, Aniket Vishwasrao, Hemant Dhome who has also written the story of the film, Jitendra Joshi, etc.

What is your character in the film like?

I play an ambitious village girl who is studying in Pune and wants to be an agricultural officer but when she comes to her native village, her life changes when she finds that the village has a paucity of marriageable girls for boys and how she is wooed by all the boys of the village and how she finds that  each boy is different in their behavior and manner like she finds Aniket as a very boyish innocent boy, Jitendra Joshi, a very powerful boy of a leading powerful family of the village, Hemant Dhome as a very funny  and completely rural boy and her uncle played by Hrishikesh Joshi wants her to get married to one of these boys and this is the gist of the film.

How close is the character in the film to your real self?

I am also a reasonably ambitious girl also hailing from Pune and I am also a simple girl with simple wants in life and acting is my only passion. I am happy that I have got a female centric role in the film which is always satisfying as an actor.

How was it like working with Sameer Patil as a director?

Unfortunately I hadn’t seen Poshter Boyz before the shooting of the film but I made it a point to see the film after I signed ‘Poshter Girl’ and I found that he is a director who likes the satirical black comedy genre but albeit with a good message and when we shot on the locations in Wai, I found he was a really nice and a complete gentleman who knows his craft and always trying to excel himself. I am very happy that I have acted in this film as I got an opportunity to grow as an actress and also our entire team was like one big happy family.

Isn’t it a great thing that a big studio like VIACOM 18 is producing this film?

Yes. Marathi cinema has grown over the years and they have made Marathi films in past, some successful like ‘Zapatlela-2, and this is a sign of Marathi cinema coming of age.

Do you have any song and dance sequences for which you are famous for after Natarang’?

Yes, Natarang was a landmark film for me but I have done films in which didn’t have any dance sequences and ‘Poshter Girl’ is one such film. It is a completely performance driven film.

What’s next?

I like to do one film at a time and after the release of ‘Poshter Girl’ I will take a much needed break for a while and then I will start reading scripts and then sign a very good film.

Are you open to television offers?

Television is not my cup of tea. I like to do things in a very easy paced and a no stress manner and television is too hectic for me and so I want to keep away from television.

Prem Kahani Review:

Some films find it difficult justify their existence. They are so bad that you wonder what the people behind the film were even thinking while making this film. Prem Kahani is one such film.

It is a story of reincarnation – a done to death subject. We have had reincarnation stories as long as one can remember. Prem Kahani does not attempt to do anything new with it. The sole purpose of the film seems to be launching of Kajal Sharma who plays the lead role of Sonal – a college going girl getting strange hallucinations. But, to our misfortune, Kajal Sharma is a terrible actor to put it mildly. And it does not help that the director is hell bent of taking close ups of her. The camera instead of trying to cover up for her obvious lack of acting talent is happy with her expressionless face occupying the entire frame.

The love story in the ‘Prem Kahani’ does not begin before the second half. Kajal who is obsessed with Rajasthani folk art seems to have some uncanny connection with the state. Her doctor advises her to go on a trip to unwind her mind. And, rather predictably, she and her friends choose to go to Rajasthan and that is where the love story unfolds on screen in flashbacks.

The film is riddled with clichés all over. The staging of the scenes is amateurish, not to mention unintentionally hilarious at times. Despite the second half being entirely set in a scenic locale like Rajasthan, you have to make an effort to focus on the film. At some points the film gets so unbearable that you have an urge to pull out your hair. The desperate attempt to put some horror element in the film with ear deafening music makes you feel like walking out of the film.

Overall:

An unbearable film which finds it difficult to justify its own existence.
