Anaan Marathi Movie Review :

Marathi cinema is going nowhere with simply unique subjects anymore. The makers of today’s Marathi films need to understand the essentiality & urgency of learning ways to explore these ambitious subjects. Prarthana Behere starrer ‘Anaan’ suffers from the same. 

The start of the film suggests an over the top thriller. But soon we realize that it’s just a back story. However the man introduced as villain is set to return. Shilpa Tulaskar (called as Didi) & Uday Sabnis (Didi’s friend/philosopher/brother?) rescues a newly born girl child which the villain wants to kill. That child is considered a sin. So that child grows up as Prarthana Behere. She is a passionate classical dancer trained under Didi (Tulaskar) who is a classical singer. The trailer of this film hinted a few traits of lesbianism. The first half shows a few scenes that could be letting us towards it. But no, it’s an altogether different theme that this film concerns itself with.

On paper this theme itself is extremely ambitious. But this film never manages to understand its magnitude. The treatment ruins every possible chance of taking the theme & the film seriously. One of the most irritating characters in this film is portrayed by Sukhada Deshpande. She plays a German woman who is interested in the mythology of Shiva & is here in India for arranging a classical dance show with the theme of Shiva. She plays a German woman who speaks English & Marathi in a Puneri-American accent. In one moment she is on the phone saying she has booked her tickets for Amsterdam & then in the very next moment she tells a fellow character that she is going back home. What has Amsterdam got to do with her home (in Germany)?

This film keeps screwing up with geography throughout. The villain speaks in Hindi-Marathi with an overdose of Rajasthani dialect. The places in the story are not at all defined. In the all important climax the film shifts locations like they are just a prop on a stage. Everyone ends up being at the same place without even knowing each other’s whereabouts!

The title of this film ‘Anaan’ isn’t justified almost throughout. During the final dance performance I still managed to find out what it actually means. Let’s say it would be a spoiler to reveal it here. All I can say is that ‘Anaan’ is an abbreviated form of one of the many names Lord Shiva has, which also represents the conflict of the protagonist of this film.

We see the film throwing in Lord Shiva’s myth in between for effect. This film could not even get any grace points for a ‘different subject’ because it simply makes everything laughable. For example there’s a character in this film that has been attacked by our villain by a knife on the neck! But guess what? The other characters never even consider filing a police case! They pretend it’s an accident & move on with their lives. They are completely aware that this villain is on his way to kill the protagonist, yet no police in the picture whatsoever! Why? What kind of fairy land is this film set in?

Then there’s another sub-track of our hero. He is a passionate classical dancer who considers his art as his girl friend. This philosophy of his doesn’t even last the first half of the film. His father has fixed his marriage with his friend’s daughter. This daughter is another gem when it comes to bad characterization! She is obsessed with our hero for no specified reason. Her father in the climax scene says that his daughter is very ‘aggressive’ & she can do anything if she doesn’t get to be our hero’s bride! My point is that by common sense her character was made this way to make the police think that the attacks are done by her! But as I told you, there is no police! 

Overall:

Lets pray to Lord Shiva that Marathi cinema gets over this really bad phase that it is going through right now.

The direction is done by Rajesh Kushte & the screenplay-dialogues are written by Mukesh Jadhav. Rajesh Kushte has also written lyrics for the songs in this film. And these songs are composed new talented composers Saurabh-Durgesh. ‘Anaan’ will soon release in all over Maharashtra.

Laal IShq Marathi Movie Review:

Swwapnil Joshi is the rare actor in the Marathi film industry who can be called a ‘star’. He does attract audience to the theatre and it is indeed a commendable achievement in a film industry deprived of such fan following. His film Friends, that released earlier this year, didn’t really make any mark and vanished from the theatres without a trace. So his fans would certainly be looking forward to Laal Ishq – a romance murder mystery, produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, no less. But, rather sadly, they are in for another major disappointment. Laal Ishq is a poor film at nearly all levels.

If there is one level that the film is good, then it has to be the basic concept. In the film, two suspects to a murder case are being interrogated. Their stories do not match. So either one of them is lying and most likely is related to the crime. This is certainly a subject not explored in marathi cinema. But Laal Ishq, probably due to Swapnil Joshi’s romantic hero image, forces a rather clichéd and hackneyed love story, and that proves to be the major undoing of the film.

Yash Patwardhan (Swwapnil Joshi) and a theatre troupe have driven down to a resort in Lonavala to rehearse their play. Janhavi (Anjana Sukhani) is the manager of the resort. Needless to mention, Yash and Janhavi fall in love at first sight, despite both of them being committed to someone else. Meanwhile, the rather mean director of the play is murdered and police officers Randive and his assistant are investigating the case. Randive interrogates Yash and Janhavi and the story unfolds on the screen in flashback. However, as mentioned before, the stories of Yash and Janhavi don’t match, so we are not sure whose story to trust. But even as the interrogation is in process, few more murders take place in the resort and the police finally close in on the killer.

Laal Ishq would have done so much better without the love story. Not only is it as clichéd as it can get, but the love scenes are filled with such cringe-worthy dialogues that I started squirming in seat. Add to that the poor dialogue delivery of the lead actress Anjana Sukhani. The film is also full of caricatures that sometime become laughing stock. And let’s not even get to the logical loopholes -why is a film star rehearsing a fairly small time play? In a scene we see that Janhavi reaches a place faster than a car, despite herbeing shown limping! The reason given in the end behind Janhavi and Yash’s statements not matching seems devoid of logic as well.

The film does get a little engaging towards the end. Though you can predict the killer from a distance, the revelation is the better part about the film.The only performance that impresses is of Kamlesh Sawant who plays the police officer Randive.

Overall:

Laal Ishq is a poorly made romance murder mystery which the presence of even Swwapnil Joshi cannot save.

As the release date of the SLB productions first Marathi film Laal Ishq is coming closer, the makers of the film have started using innovative methods to promote the film. Recently the cast and crew along with some film journalists spent a day at a Lonavala resort.

The cast of this film presented a skit about the film to introduce their character and also performed on the dance number “Chimani Chimani”. The story of the film revolves around a murder and how all the film characters are accused of this murder and everyone of them tried to prove of their innocence. The cast included Swapnil Joshi, Anjana Sukhani, Samidha Guru, Kamlesh Sawant, Uday Tikekar, Yashashree Masurkar, Sneha Chavan, Farjil Paradeevala, Piyush Ranade, Jaywant Wadkar et al.

Apart from the film promotions, the actors and the journalists also rewind themselves at this resort and played various games like snooker and spent some quiet time around the nature.
The film will be releasing on 27 May all over Maharashtra.

As Laal Ishq is gearing up for its release on 27 May, the songs have been releasing by the makers. The latest released song “Chimani Chimani” is a fun party song featuring most of the cast of the film minus the leading lady Anjana Sukhani. The song seems to be the celebration, however, given the mood of the film, there is something going on with the characters and of this film.

The song shows Piyush Ranade, Sneha Chavan , Jaywant Wadkar and Priya Arun dancing in a party. Swapnil Joshi reluctantly joins them, but clearly the plot is thickening in the song. We have to see the film to know exactly what is going on in this song. The song has been composed by Amit Raj and sung by Adarsh Shinde and Amitraj. What is more surprising is actors Swapnil, Piyush and Jaywant Wadkar have also sung some lines of this song!! And they have done an excellent job. Sneha and Piyush dances really good, Swapnil as usual steals the show with his charm.

The lyrics of this song have been written by Sachin Pathak and the film is directed by Swapna Waghmare Joshi. The film has been produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali Productions.

The new song from much-awaited Laal Ishq has been released. The passionate song has been composed by Nilesh Mohrir and sung by Swapnil Bandodkar and Vaishali Samant.

Chaand Maatala is a very loving song about passion of the love. The setting of the song is very much like Sanjay Leela Bhansali films. The chandeliers and burning candles immediately reminds of old era. The use of bright colors and hues creates lovely illusion for the audience. The bold yet sensational moves by Anjana Sukhani are very good. The song uses slo-mo very nicely.

The film is directed by Swapna Waghmare Joshi and will be releasing in the theaters on 27th May 2016.

Though SLB Productions, Laal Ishq is a very dark and sinister film, the cast and crew managed to make the work more fun on the sets. The new face of the Sneha Chavan became the victim of the ragging by the Swwapnil Joshi. On her first day of the shoot, Swapnil told her to give Rs. 101 to the cameraman as a “Shagun” which will make her career super-hit. He also promised her that this is correct and auspicious way to start to start the shooting. Sneha believed him and when she went to give the cameraman Rs. 101 everyone on the sets started laughing.

Innocent Sneha could not believe that Swapnil could pull such a prank on her! Then she also joined in the laughter! We bet Sneha will never forget her first day of the shoot.

The motion poster of ‘Laal Ishq’ created quite a buzz. Its visual design suggested something dark. A kind of sinister romance not yet presented in Marathi cinema. The trailer of the film that was launched recently further underlined the darkness present in the film.

‘Laal Ishq’ that stars Swapnil Joshi and Anjana Sukhani in the lead role is a romantic tale with a mysterious twist. It is about a cast of a play that has come to a resort to rehearse. During their stay at the resort they witness a mysterious murder there. The prime suspect for the murder are Yash Patwardhan (Swwapnil Joshi) and Janhavi Deodhar (Anjana Sukhani) who have had a romantic relationship in the recent past. The police who are investigating the murder start interrogating the two prime suspects. While interrogation it becomes clear that either one of the two suspects are lying as their stories don’t match.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali has produced this film and his influence was visible in the trailer. The film has a distinctive look with the makers having gone for dark colours like black and red depicting romance, trust, mystery and thrill. The songs also seem lavishly shot in true Bhansali fashion.

The trailer launch was a happening event attended by the entire cast and crew of the film including Jaywant Wadkar, Priya Berde, Piyush Ranade among others. The two main leads Swwapnil Joshi and Anjana Sukhani were present of course. Both look ravishing in their outfits.

The event was also graced by the presence of Swwapnil Joshi’s costars from his previous hit films. Sai Tamhankar, Sonalee Kulkarni and Mukta Barve came all the way to wish their friend and costar Swwapnil Joshi loads of luck for this venture.

The director Swapna Waghmare Joshi who had also directed Mitwa  was also present for the event. The spectacular camerawork is handled by Prasad Bhende and the music is composed by Amitraj Nad Milesh Moharir.

The film is slated to release on May 2th, 2016.
