The much-awaited Madhuri Dixit debut in Marathi industry with ‘Bucket List’ directed by Tejas Prabha Vijay Deoskarhas been hugely celebrated by the audiences. The film revolves around a woman finding her way back to life and discovering the new meaning of it.

Bollywood’s iconic heroine Madhuri transformed herself completely to fit into the role of a middle-class Maharashtrian housewife for ‘Bucket List’. And the audiences too have responded back to Madhuri’s efforts as they are watching the film in theatres in big numbers.

Bucket List Movie Review:

The one-liner for Bucket List would appear considerably interesting on paper. The film even achieves some of it’s ‘fun’ aspect in the first half. But even that has a problem of perspective. The whole idea needed to be looked as a comedy, a true blue comedy that could only get slightly serious in the climax. Instead ‘Bucket List’ appears confused about it’s perspective. It unnecessary creates drama out of situations that are outright illogical in the narrative. It even underplays the humorous moments to keep the film family friendly.

The first half starts off on a terrific note, where we didn’t expect this film to make Madhuri a true believable middle aged housewife. We also notice there’s a slight cutely dumb side to her (one that is never seen again). I was reminded of Sai Tamhankar’s character from ‘YZ’. Imagined that in this scheme of things! But Madhura (Madhuri Dixit Nene) is hardly a complete character on her own. She is a roughly created generalized version of a middle aged house wife from a upper middle class family.

As we know the narrative of the film is about Madhura completing a ‘Bucket List’, a Bucket list that belonged to a teenage girl who lost her life before completing her 21^st birthday. Why Madhura is supposed to take this responsibility on herself? From the promotions of the film I realized the Bucket List team doesn’t want the audience to know about it, so I won’t reveal. But I would say whatever the reason is it makes sense as also it’s a part of the basic idea which is interesting on it’s own.

However the journey of the completion of this Bucket List doesn’t bring about any substantial change in Madhura’s life. She does a number of things, by the end she says she has learned so much & has changed so much, but this change is only present in the dialogues not in the actual screenplay. One major reason for this error is that since the film didn’t really figure out Madhura’s character before the Bucket List entering her life the changes too are difficult to incorporate!

The second half as major issues throughout, almost every dramatic moment feels forced & which are unnecessarily added to have a conflict in the story. The climax is shockingly absurd! The fast paced, high energy party song ‘Houn Jau Dya’ kills the entire novelty of the subject brutally! The song just didn’t belong to the film. Why would parents of a dead 20 year old celebrate her birthday with such over the top excitement just after 6 months from her death? The birthday party makes sense but the excitement is just mindlessly absurd.

But the reason I have still rated the film decently is the way it created an interesting give & take between today’s younger generation & the generation of their parents. Madhura too is backed by a few friends of the deceased teenager. Madhura also has few interesting & relatable moments with her own teenage daughter. Deceased teengaer’s twin brother played by Sumedh Mudgalkar too suffers from the unnecessary dramatic angle of the film, or else he could have made a better connect with the audiences, also because he is a good performer.

Finally talking about Madhuri’s performance! Her Marathi isn’t a problem, neither is her overall performance, but then she doesn’t save an average film. A better actress in this part could have surely elevated the overall film as there were many moments for the character to shine above the mediocre script. I was reminded of Sridevi’s heart warming performance from ‘English Vinglish’ & how she literally appeared ‘Shashi Godbole’ in & out.

Overall:

Bucket List’s biggest problem is the directorial decision making, from the tone of the film to the overall flow of the screenplay, the inclusion of irrelevant drama & the absurd climax. Yet for audiences who are fans of Madhuri Dixit, the film would be a pleasing experience overall.

Colors Marathi’s Big Boss Marathi hosted by Mahesh Manjrekar has caught the fancy of our audiences completely through the first week! Everyone is speculating their own theories of who could get evicted & how! Voting from the audiences was done in abundance. In the first week Bhushan Kadu, Anil Thatte & Aarti Solanki were in the danger zone & sadly because of lesser votes Aarti Solanki had to leave the Big Boss house.

After her eviction, Aarti said, “I made good friends inside the Big Boss house which include Rutuja, Ushaji, & Sai Lokur..but some of the old friends didn’t stay by my side & that hurt me. Apart from the three mentioned names the rest are all playing mind games in the house. I did the tasks, worked in the kitchen & even entertained other yet I had to leave that made me sad. Though I would say that the Big Boss house is pretty beautiful & very much Maharashtrian.”

After Aarti got evicted she was gifted with a special power to save a contestant from next week’s nomination! And Aarti chose senior actress & fondly called ‘Aau’ in the Big Boss house, Usha Nadkarni! It would be interesting to see what happens next in Marathi Big Boss house. Why only hero has to carry the burden of the entire film? Good films are those where all the supporting actors, actresses carry the film along with them.PremasathicominSuun is surely one of such movies. It is a light hearted romantic comedy laced with good performances. Director AnkurKakatkar tries to give a message through this romantic comedy.

The plot of the film revolves around Aditya (AdinathKothare). He marries Antara (Neha Pendse) as per his grandmother’s wishes (Suhas Joshi). Antara has been staying with her maternal uncle and Aunt (Vijay Patkar and Resham Tipnis) However, after marriage next day Antara vanishes with all the jewellery. What happens next is a romantic, funny and slightly thrilled drama.

The film tries to give out a social message in the end. It succeeds in grabbing the attention of the audience and then making them realise about the social evils present in the society.
The first half truly belongs to Vijay Patkar. His acting talent has made this film a good film. Jitendra Joshi once again proves his metal in a negative character. Adinath Kothare seems to be in an OK role. Neha Pendse has done one of the best roles of her career. Her glamorous and girl-next door looks are really good. Other supporting actors have also done very good job.

The music and songs of the film are a huge letdown. Not a single song is good enough to remember once the film is over. Technically, film is good. Audience can watch this film as it surely guarantees some chuckles and a thought-provoking climax. This is a good movie with good message. The film is produced by Anupkumar Potdar, Sanjay Sankla, Aman Vidhare and Mulchand Dedhiya.
