Mrunal Dusanis, one of the most famous faces of Marathi Television recently tied knot with her fiance Neeraj More on 25th February at Nasik. Neeraj is originally from Pune but working as a software engineer in US for the past six years.

Sources have suggested that Mrunal will be settling in the US after “Assa Sasar Surekh Bai” finishes its run on the TV. As the serial gathers high TRPs, we are not sure when it will be.

Post Guru, Mumbai Time is another film that seems to have been strongly influenced by the loud cinema from the South.

Mumbai Time is a gangster film that shows how a young man from a lower middle class background gets caught in the world of crime and then traces his journey there. We have seen many such films in Hindi and also in Marathi like the recent Dagadi Chawl. This film is no different than the ones that have already released. These kinds of gangster films are dime a dozen.

Amar Surve (Umesh Kamat) has an issue with a villain in a South Indian gang who’s head honcho played by Deepak Shirke. Amar has to go through the entire hierarchy to exact his revenge. He cannot directly take revenge. There is also another Muslim Gang whose leader is played by Ramesh Bhatkar. Mahesh Manjrekar plays the role of an ACP who is only shown playing chess most of the time.

The film starts on a loud note and bizarrely that loudness is maintained right throughout. The film somehow has very few scenes which are at a low pitch and this works against the film. The drama unfolding on screen loses its impact. Umesh Kamat is an interesting casting as we have seldom seen him in such roles; his performance is one of the better parts of the film. Apart from him all other actors are theatrical or over the top. This results in the film becoming very loud. Marathi films of the recent past seem to have borrowed this over the top story telling from their southern counterparts. Guru clearly had an influence of Telugu and Tamil commercial potboilers. Mumbai Time too seems to be influenced by cinema from the South.

Another negative aspect of the film is that it is predictable. Nearly every point in the story can be guessed from a distance.

Overall:

A loud and predictable gangster film that has nothing new in it.

Santosh Juvekar is one of the popular figures in the Marathi entertainment industry and the rugged actor is returning to television after a long sabbatical with the family drama ‘Asa Sasar Surekh Bai’, The serial is broadcast on Colors Marathi from Monday to Saturday at 8 pm. The show revolves around a family and relationships, has been popular among viewers.

We got talking to Santosh about his sabbatical and return to TV serials. Read on.

Why this long sabbatical on television?

I was busy with my films and plays and I didn’t get any good offers in the interim so I decided to take a break from television.

What made you accept this specific show as your comeback show?

First of all it is a well written family drama and not the usual ‘saas bahu’ soap. I am playing a sober, clean shaven, disciplined good boy called Yash Mahajan who marries Juhi (Mrunal Dusanis). This is the story of their life after marriage and how Juhi strikes a chord with her in laws in-spite of differences and how the character of a kind hearted husband played by me supports all through. This family element is what attracted me to take up this show.

How was it like working on the show?

It was great especially Mrunal Dusanis with whom I vibe very well and the results can be seen on the small screen.

Tell us more about the show.

Eminent director Gautam Joglekar will make his acting debut with this show as the father of  Juhi. Another attraction for the show is a song sung by Avdhoot Gupte composed by Avinash Vishwajeet.

Any role models or inspirations in this field?

Yes. I admire actors like Subodh Bhave, Chinmay Mandlekar and Irrfan Khan in Hindi cinema.

You are busy in all three mediums, theater, films and now television? What excites you more?

Frankly I enjoy all three but the work should be good.

What next on the anvil?

My ‘Bikers Adda’ will release in the October. I am pretty much excited about the film as this is a very different

Colors Marathi celebrated Raksha Bandhan along with the kids from The Vatsalya Foundation. Dev (Akshar Kothari), Sharayu (Deepti Ketkar) and Kamla (Ashwini Kasar) from serial Kamla participated in this event. Mrunal Dusanis from Assa Saasar Surekh Baai and Shubhra (Swarada Thigale) from Majhe Man Tujhe Jhale were also participated for this innovative Raksha Bandhan function. Deepti had brought some sweets from the kids. Mrunal prmised to visit this kids once in a month.

Akshar Kothari ties Rakhi to all the girls from the Foundation while actresses ties Rakhi to boys. The kids also performed on various songs for these celebrities. Everybody enjoyed this event very much.

Colors Marathi recently launched two different programs for its primetime- Asa Saasar Surekh Bai and Dholkichya Talavar. To promote these programs an event was organised at Dadar along with Prerna Manch. The host of this program was Harish Dudhade, a popular face on Colors Marathi as Shekhar from Maajhe Man tujhe Jhaale.

The event was attended by Mrunal Dusanis and Santosh Juvekar, leading pair of Ass Saasar Surekh bai. The highlight of the program was Lavani performances by the team of Dholkichya Taalaavar. Baghatoy Rickshawala-fame Mansi Naik and Lavani Queen Megha Ghadge performed on various lavanis which audience was thrilled to see.
