Comedy is an underrated art. It is one of the most difficult thing to make people laugh. ‘Zee Talkies Comedy Awards’ has been the forerunner in appreciating humour in Marathi film and theatre industry. The annual award show was held this year as well in its full glory at the Ravindra Natyamandir. The theme this year was ‘Kal Aaj Aur Kal’.

‘Murder Mestri’ and ‘Shree Bai Samarth’were awarded the Best Film and Best Play, respectively. Veteran actor Prashant Damle won the Best Actor award, while Kranti Redkar and Manasi Naik were honoured with the Best Actress award at the ceremony. There was a separated section for reprised plays as well and the Best Play award there went to Sanshay Kallol. In the same section Prashant Damle (Sanshay Kallol) and Hemangi Kavi (Ti Phulrani) were announced as the Best Actor and Best Actress.

Madhukar Toradmal who has graced the stage and films in a career of over 5 decades was honoured with the Life Time Achievement Award. ‘Loknatya Vishesh Puraskar’ was awarded to the great performer from Konkan, Mahadev Chodnekar. Senior actor Arun Nalwade was also given the Special Jury Award.

The excitement in the announcement of awards, the top quality performances and the enthusiastic response from the audience made the even a memorable night.

After Bhakti Barve, Priya Tendulkar, Sukanya Kulkarni and Amruta Subhash it is Hemangi Kavi who has decided to portray Ti Phulrani on the stage. The play was adapted on George Bernard Shaw’s unforgettable play “Pygmalion” by eminent Marathi writer PL Deshpande in 1975. The play created a history in Marathi theatre by power packed performances and its monologue “Tula Shikavin Changlach Dhada” became very popular.

The new stage version has been produced by Ashtagandh Entertainment and directed by Rajesh Deshpande. Hemangi Kavi will be seen in the title role and Dr Girish Oak will be seen in the role of the professor. Meenakshi Joshi, Rashika Dhamankar, Nitin Narkar, Pranjal Damle, Vijay Patwardhan, Niranajan Javeer, Harish Tandale, Disha Danade, Sunil Jadhav and Anjali Maideo will be seen in supporting roles.

The set design has been done by Sandesh Bendre. Mahesh Sher has done costumes and makeup by Uday Tangdi. Music has been given by Nishad Kolambare. The play will be on the stage very soon.

Marathi Taraka – a dance and song extravaganza by producer Mahesh Tilekar recently completed its 500 shows. The event was attended by dancing divas- Shridevi and Madhuri Dixit.

Varsha Usgaonkar, Kishori Godbole, Hemangi Kavi, Neha Pendse, Ketaki Palav, BHargavi Chirmule, Kranti Redkar, Shruti Marathe, Prajakta Mali, Sara Shravan, Sanskruti Balgude, Shweta Shinde, Amruta Khanvilkar, Teja Devkar and Prachi Pisat performed on the super hit songs on Shreedevi and Madhuri as a tribute.

Shridevi wished best luck for the dancers and Madhuri won everyone’s heart by speaking in Marathi. Madhuri also performed on her famous “hamari atariya pe” and audience loved it.

The event also had performances by Lalit Prabhakar, Adinath Kothare and king of slomo Raghav Juyal. All the performances were choreographed by Subhash Nakashe and Hitesh Patil.

Andaman Nicobar islands immediately remind is of Swatatryaveer Savarakar and his imprisonment. Now a days, these islands are known as a tourist destinations, very few people are aware that there is a huge Marathi diaspora called as Laxmi Nagar on the Campbell Bay Island. These people are staying here for the past four decades without any civic infrastructures and basic amenities. Marathi Taraka, an event produced by Mahesh Tilekar recently performed at this island. Neha Pendse, SmitaTambe, Hemangi Kavi, Teja Devkar, Smita Shewale, Pooja Sawant, Sanskruti Balgude, Shruti Marathe, Smita Gavankar and stand-up comedian Deepak Deshpande were part of this performance.

Marathi Taraka has been performing for various social causes. This even was showcased in Rashtrapati Bhavan, Indo-Pakistan border.

Campbell Bay is geographically a very distant place to reach as it is 36 hours by sea from the main Andaman Island. The Indonesia border is just 30 miles from this island. Hence, it is a sensitive area, Many Marathi families have been staying here from 1972. The entire island was destroyed in Tsunami. Laxmi Nagar still lacks facilities like power, television. Yet, the residents were overjoyed by this event. They prepared special Marathi food like Varanbhat, Coconut Barfi, Gavhaacheekheer for the visitors. They thanked the entire team by presenting bouquet of wild flowers and ornaments made of shells.

Subodh Kudmude soon realizes that the fortune comes as a package; in addition to five crores, he receives a few freebies that include a troublesome inspector, an annoying NGO agent, a South Indian Don and a dead body that claims to be Mr. Subodh Kudmude.
