A true superstar from Marathi theatre, Prashant Damle has been engaged in various social activities through his “Prashant Damle Fan Fundation”. He is all set to take his social commitment a notch higher with his decision to donate eyes. With his upcoming play, ‘Nakalat Disle Sare’ which deals with the life of blind people, Prashant has decided to take up the cause of eye donation, which according to him, is the need of the hour, with India lagging way behind in this field. He is going to fill up the “eye donation form” in the presence of audience at the time of releasing his new play “Nakalat Disle Sare” on 8th November.
The play revolves around two blind characters. It tells us about how a person who is blind by birth guide a person who, while being at the peak of his fame, suddenly becomes blind. The story, written and directed by Yogesh Soman, is presented in very light hearted manner. Prashan Damle besides playing main role has also produced this play.
On the occasion of ‘World white cane day’, the Muhurt of this play was also done in a unique way on 15th October 2013 in the presence of some of the eminent personalities who have overcome the hurdle of blindness and have become successful in their life. On this occasion, Mr. Anand Athalekar, the Honarary Secretary of “National Association of Blinds” (NAB), Mr. Dabholkar, an IBM certified NAB’s faculty, Sampada Palnitkar, NAB’s Centre head, Prashant Naik, the inventor of ATM for blind were present. The Muhurt was done at the hands of Nupur Joshi who is Blind by birth. Nupur is best example of courage and wisdom who stood in life barring the visually challenge. Chief Editor of Zee 24 taas, Mr. Uday Nigudkar was also present at this occasion.
Prashant Damle announced his wish to donate eyes on this occasion. He said, “a small country like ‘Shri Lanka’ is on top in Eye donation and we having population of 120 crore is far away from that rank which is ridiculous” “As an Artist, I would be glad if I could create awareness about eye donation and its importance, therefore, I have decided to donate my eyes” He said on this occasion.
