Mostly known as the voice behind the memorable tracks from Aashiqui 2, singer Palak Muchhal has acquired enormous success in Hindi cinema at an age as early as 22. Now she has entered the arena of Marathi cinema by lending her voice for a song in director Sakar Raut’s Hatke Love Story.
In an exclusive chat with MarathiStars, Palak gets candid about her first Marathi song and her views on Marathi music.
How was the experience of singing your first Marathi song?
It was an awesome experience. I have sung many Marathi songs on stage and in reality shows, but to record my own song for a film is just out of this world. It was great working with Team SR (Sakar Raut). The song is beautifully composed and the lyrics are also very good. I hope you will also love the song when you will hear it.
What made you take up this song from Hatke Love Story?
The best thing about this song is the melody, it’s very soulful. The notes and the variations in the scale are also good. It was a very good opportunity.
Being primarily a Bollywood singer, did you face any problems singing for a Marathi film?
I can sing in 17 languages. I am most comfortable in Hindi but singing in Marathi is also what I enjoy. When I used to sing on stage, I didn’t realize any problems but when you are recording you have to take every word, pronunciation and note into consideration. Everything should be perfect and yes Team SR is very supportive so it wasn’t a big task for me to nail it!
What do you think of Marathi sangeet?
Indian music is so diverse and I think Marathi is the best genre which we have in the country. And most Marathi people understand music. Marathi singers are very learned and very prepared. We can see their preparation in the way they sing! So before coming here I was mentally prepared that I have to be very well prepared for this song. So before recording I took out time to understand the lyrics in detail and get all the pronunciations correct. I was damn sure a very well prepared song is coming my way and I was prepared for it!
How was the experience working with the Team SR for Hatke Love Story?
It was so much fun recording with them. Everyone out here is so young, supportive and encouraging and mainly everyone here is positive. The moment I entered the studio it was all positive vibes so it was fun recording.
