A sports film is a very rare genre in Marathi cinema & even more rare is ‘athletics’ in our films. Actor turned director Milind Shinde directorial ‘Re Raya..Kar Dhava’ is that very rare film releasing in theatres from 20^th July. Presented by ‘Radhe Motion Pictures’ & produced by Ajay Sukheja this film stars Bhushan Pradhan, Sanskruti Balgude, Uday Tikekar, Prakash Dhotre, Vivek Chabukswar & Hansraj Jagtap.

This film tells the story of the journey of rural kids who aspire to be athletes. Actor Bhushan Pradhan plays their coach. Director Milind Shinde believes there’s a natural physical strength in kids born in rural areas they just need the right guidance to achieve their dreams. He also believes that the ‘sports’ genre is difficult to deal with but he has made a very realistic sports film.

Milind Shinde who has also been a well-known actor, says while directing the film, the actor within him was distant from him. He thought of the film from a director’s point of view throughout. He didn’t show his actors how to act by doing it himself. He instead let every actor explore their character on their own & hence their performances turned out very natural & organic, believes Shinde.

Aditya  Paithankar  starred Gopya’s music launch was done recently in Mumbai. “Ganesh Film & Entertainment” Presentation “Gopya” is a predominantly musical film and it is slated for release all over Maharashtra on April 21. The film is directed by Raj Paithankar.

On the occasion, present were the singers, music director and the director of the film. Kiran-Raj has composed the songs and lyrics are by Raj Paithankar. Kiran has sung “Taana Na Taana Na…” and “Tu Tujhya Jeevanacha Shilpakar…” while Neha Rajpal has sung “Kaay Asa Kela Mee Gunaha…” Master Rohit Wagh has crooned the number “Aapli Khod Kuni Kaadaichi Nahi…”

Besides Aditya  Paithankar who has played  the title role, the film also stars Madhavi  Juvekar, Kamlesh Sawant, Manisha Paithankar, Uday Sabnis, Jaywant Wadkar, Ajay Jadhav, Sameer Vijayan, Rajesh Bhosle, Prakash Dhotre, Amir Tadwalkar, Manasi Murudkar and Ajit Jadhav.

The film is produced by Amol Bhalerao, Nitin Pagare and Raj Paithankar and co-produced by Sarjerao Mote, Atulraje Gayali and Dhanaji Gaikwad and Subhash Jagadhne.  

Raj Paithankar who has dabbled in direction as well as lyrics has also written the subject. Yogesh Sabnis has written the screenplay and the dialogues.  Cinematography is by Aniket K while Art Direction is by Devdatt Raut and Nandu Moharkar. Atul Salve is the production executive while Chinni Chetan is the choreographer. Sonu Paitankar has designed the sound for the film while Vishal Kotkar has edited the film.

Premay Namah Marathi Movie Review :

Premay Namah stars a hero who is impossible to tolerate. Not just because the actor is incompetent, but also because this ‘hero’ represents everything that the quintessential ‘Bollywood’ hero stood far, but in the most irritating & plain moronic way. There are visible tributes to a whole list of Bollywood heroes from Dev Anand to Salman & Shahrukh Khan! And a whole lot of Bollywood films from the 90s!

Prem (Devendra Chougule) falls in love with Preeti (Rupali Krushnarav). And then he keeps stalking her, because he thinks it’s true love. At one point when the girl keeps opposing his direct marriage proposal, Prem says he’ll forcefully marry her only if they meet again by coincidence. 

Of course without coincidence, there won’t be a plot to this film. Slowly the film turns to a ‘Rajashri style’ family drama & still keeping the one-sided love track alive. The whole one-sided love track also directly shows resemblance with the recent Bollywood film, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. The actors who play the parents of the hero & heroine are known faces from television & others films, but they too couldn’t manage to interest us one bit.

Most of the times such films have plenty of songs almost every 15-20 minutes, but we realized todaythat actually those songs give you a moment to breathe! In case of ‘Premay Namaha’ after the first song for almost more than 40 minutes we keep anticipating a song that can give us a moment to feel a bit better. By the time the second song arrives, it’s almost too late. The bg score of this film is not just loud but also contrary to the scenes on many occasions. Sometimes there are two kinds of bg scores at the same moment. It might be because they don’t want to manipulate their audiences! And there are inspiration in the bg too!

However, the problem is not the inspirations, in a way we can be fine with it, the problem is the execution. The acting too is simply intolerable. A few films that are badly executed can have a certain charm of being ‘so bad that they’re good’. Premay Namah is far from it. There is nothing that is enjoyable, even the ‘in your face’ action scenes are tasteless & not even ridiculous enough to be enjoyed with a satirical humour. 

The end of the film though is a bit unexpected, though still not decent enough to improve the film in any possible way. It’s just that you didn’t expect the film to actually have something to say. Is that something strong enough to be heard? Yes, but for that watching the whole film would be like going through a 3 month jail sentence to earn a 200rs voucher from a nearby shopping mall!

It’s not difficult to understand that such films are made with extreme self-confidence. Films like these & the people who make them are not yet over the 90s hangover of Bollywood. A hero centric love story filled with some other filmy ‘masala’ is no longer a staple for any kind of audiences today. If at all there is any audience of that sort, the south Indian dubbed films are providing enough content with better commercial value to them. 

2017 is truly having a difficult start for Marathi Cinema. There was merely one film that has truly clicked with the audiences & a couple of decent attempts. Hopefully in the coming weeks & months of 2017 Marathi Cinema will blossom again.

Overall:

If under any circumstances you happen to watch Premay Namaha, you’ll realize it’s a film that you shouldn’t recommend to even the fiercest of your enemies, let alone your dear& loved ones.

When he comes across Preeti (Rupali Krishnarao), it’s a love at first sight for him. Preeti does not respond to his advances, maybe with a feeling..But I see you stare just a little too long, and it makes me start to wonder,But destiny keeps bringing them face to face in a very playful and humorous manner and as both their families being good friends they too become friends. Unawares the friendship culminates into love.

Both Prem and Preeti are madly in love with each other. Do I love you because you are beautiful Or are you beautiful because I love you. Destiny plays spoilsport this time as Prem witnesses some shocking truth during a family function. He is taken aback as It’s beyond his imagination. To make thing worse his lady love Preeti gives him few ultimatums making him feel. Be careful who you trust, the devil was once an angel!

His loyalty oscillates between his love for Preeti and family duty. What ultimatum Preeti gives to Prem? What does Prem choose family or Preeti? Does family values outweigh true love? All these questions are answered in the movie Premay Namah! It’s a love story with a difference with a tag line Let’s respect love!

Sarpanch Bhagirath Marathi Movie Review:

Sarpanch Bhagirath is one of those films that despite a having a good enough story suffers from a weak screenplay and mediocre direction.

Bhagirath (Upendra Limaye) has been elected as the sarpanch of Lokapur. Sadakaka Deshmukh has been the sarpanch of the village for three long decades. He finally has to relinquish his position as the office of the sarpanch came under reservation. Shrewd politician that he is, Sadakaka manages to get his man – Bhagirath – onto the office of Sarpanch. The new sarpanch is a straight-forward man with modest means. He is slightly ignorant in the matters of politics, but is grateful of getting an opportunity to make a difference to his society. Within no time he gets a good dose of how dirty politics can become.

Rahi – Bhagirath’s wife – is a mother of two girls. She harbors a wish of a third child, preferably a boy. Only after she conceives and is well into the 4th month of her pregnancy, Bhagirath comes to know that a third child will force him to surrender his position as the sarpanch. Rahi is unwilling, but Sadakaka is relentless in putting pressure on Bhagirath to abort the child.

Sarpanch Bhagirath then goes on to portray the turmoil in the mind of Bhagirath who is torn between holding on to the office of the Sarpanch and facing his wife who will naturally be very upset with the suggestion of aborting the child. While doing so, the film also makes a point to comment on the various social issues such as the caste discrimination, religious strife, corruption, etc. But, strangely, domestic violence is not considered a bad enough vice as Bhagirath, who has been shown to be a fairly liberal fellow, is remorseless about raising a hand on his pregnant wife.

The story of the film definitely had something in it to hold your attention. However, the screenplay here is rather weak with none of the characters other than Bhagirath getting fully developed. The mediocre direction also doesn’t help. The film has a dated look to it, and feels as if it has been shot in the 90s.

The director has managed to cast a lot of quality actors and it is their performance that makes the film watchable. Mohan Agashe as the shrewd veteran politician is spot on. Limaye, too, is convincing in his role of the young farmer pushed into the nasty world of politics. However, none of the performances are enough to save the film from becoming a bore.

Overall:

A potentially interesting story marred by a shoddy screenplay and dated direction.

The highlight of the film will be cameo appearance by Sharad Pawar and Sushilkumar Shinde. The two powerful politicians will play role of leaders in this film.

The film is about reservation and caste politics at the village level and how common people suffer. The film is written by Vishnu Surya Wagh, who himself is an MLA from Goa. The dialogues are written by Phutane. Music has been composed by renowned Shaheer Sambhaji Bhagat. Background music has been given by Rahul Ranade and editing is done by Sarvesh Parab. Cinematography is by Charudatt Dukhande and art direction is by Madhukar Patil.
