The movie attempts to present the past of India’s regime of freedom struggle in the present and a string of story binds this good learning and values of past which can be ladder to a better, secured and cultured Indian society.

Sensational Mumbai of 1908 starts the movie with a backdrop of royal victoria sketched.
A lightning emerged in dark court room with the charm of Entry of Tilak.

Subodh gives amazing shade of the Tilak.
Super powerpacked dialogues brings a sensation and inspiration.

Shows the India of today which is corrupted by mind and morals and the same is presented by news articles drops and images with nanas voice creating an appeal, making it feel that change needs to be brought.

The voice which inspired youths for India’s independence is so very special yet the youngsters show less inclination towards such patriotism due to urge of pursuing of living modern lifestyle.
We always speak of blending tradition and history with modernity but in this race we forget giving regards to such inspiration.

Indians should understand that world class education should be first for serving our nation, superb thought coined by Tilak.

Pune 1879 Deccan college painted as if in actual going back the times, credits to set a d location team.

Also Swami Vivekananda and Tilak’s meet serenely picturesqued.

We learnt history in childhood but it was incomplete the movie actually gave an insight about the superhero.

Tilak’s other side of being a Family oriented man drawn perfectly.
The movie shows the emotional side of the iron man, a fathers and husbands mind cries at death of child and wife, however strong public leader he is.

Many facets of Tilak’s vision revealed with the movie, the first draft proposing konkan railway was tabled by him in 1897.

The atrocity of epidemic plague which once ate people life, is somewhere now taken a new form, an epidemic of corruption and wrong school thoughts is eating the society.

The tyranny under commissioner rand was inhumane.
Books wrote a much milder form of the same.

To assassinate devil minded officials is legal incorrect but ethical is correct this saying of Tilak inspired Chaphekar and the demon commissioner Rand was killed.

Musical powada of assassination is a classic piece of bravery tale blended in poetry.

Blasting title of editorial written and narrated by Tilak: ‘Is the governments head in its place?’, won claps and hearts.

Person who underwent legal prosecution sentence of 6 years just for sake of people, little did people remember his glory.

The passion about work which Tilak explains to his son is a must watch, every father should educate their child with this values.

Never get defeated, dejected the struggle never ends and we can start always with new enthusiasm is the biggest learning we take back with us.

The movie speaks vividly about Tilaks Saga, and makes us feel that Tilak is born again in this era, his principles are rejuvenated and will surely give a stimulus to the society to change it to better.
Will make you actually live the Tilak Era.

For those who want to learn history, and are having constraints in reading books, for them its a 133 minutes capsule, which very effectively touches our heart and educates us to revolt against unjust.

Review:

The basic motto of a biopic is to do complete justice to the person on whom it is based. The next challenge for such genre of films is to leave behind a solid impact on the heart and mind of the viewer through his message or teachings. Om Raut’s Lokmanya – Ek Yug Purush succeeds in both areas while also making sure it is not just any other freedom fighter biopic.

Lokmanya – Ek Yug Purush focuses on the life of India’s freedom fighter, journalist, teacher and social reformer, Bal Gangadhar Tilak aka Lokmanya Tilak from the time he was a college student till the end of his life. The film highlights his fight against the British rule through various means and its consequences.

The story of a newspaper journalist (Chinmay Mandlekar), based in today’s times, is also narrated simultaneously. Hailing from Mumbai’s middle-class, he is about to marry his rich fiancée (Priya Bapat). But a chance incident ignites some serious inner conflict within him.

Biopics face a danger of becoming a bit boring or a drag, making it unacceptable for the youth. But Lokmanya steers clear from it. Through a riveting screenplay, powerful dialogues and appealing presentation, you are kept engrossed. It also makes sure that the protagonist’s inspiring lines don’t turn out to be fake or corny. Although the film is filled with soul-stirring events, the sequence about the explanation of the Bhagvad Gita and the sad truth during opening credits deserve mention.

But as mentioned before, the film stands apart from the usual biopics. This is due to the story of the journalist, based in today’s era, which is connected to the life story of Tilak. This aspect will break your heart about the kind of lives people are living today. It will force you to question not only others but also yourself.

Lokmanya has few issues though. The commercial element in some sequences should have been toned down. But the biggest question mark is the change of heart of a supporting character, which is unconvincing.

Ajit-Sameer’s music enhances the proceedings to a greater level, especially the theme song. The same can be said for the technicalities (camerawork, background score and editing), production values and costume designing.

Lokmanya wouldn’t have been reached this level without Subodh Bhave’s brilliant enactment of the protagonist. With a powerful and heartwarming act, he shows why he is one of the finest artists around. Sameer Sanjay Vidwans too shines in the role of Gopal Ganesh Agarkar.

Chinmay Mandlekar succeeds in displaying frustration and helplessness, mostly through his expressions. Priya Bapat too plays her part perfectly. Angad Mhaskar, as Daiji Khare, Prashant Uthale, as Chapekar, and the rest of the actors play their parts well. However, the actor in the role of Swami Vivekananda is a miscast.

Overall:

Lokmanya – Ek Yug Purush is an ideal film for today’s youth to know this important personality from India’s freedom struggle. It is expected to do well at the box office.

1. Subodh Bhave. After portraying a role of Marathi’s most remembered artiste Bal Gandharva, Subodh returns with the same era, but this time as Lokmanya Tilak. Watch this charismatic actor lighting up the screen as one of the most respected leaders from the Indian Freedom struggle.

2. Director Om Raut has taken up a new subject for his debut directional topic. Though Lokmanya Tilak has appeared in several films as a character, Lokmanya Tilak was never made as a biography on silver screen. The film encompasses the journey of a college goer to becoming the legend— “Father of Indian Unrest” thus inspiring generations to come.

3. This is a first movie directed by Om Raut. A film school graduate from Syracuse University, New York, Om Raut started his career as a writer and director for MTV Networks, New York. After his successful stint in the US, Om decided to move back to India and has been instrumental in producing the critically acclaimed City of Gold (LalbaugParel in Marathi), Haunted 3D, India’s first stereoscopic 3D film and few others.

4. The superb production movies of the film. The film is set in pre-independence India and hence showcases markets; daily life, culture and other aspects of life are showcased with proper research and care.

A music launch event of upcoming Marathi film “Lokmanya- EkYugpurush” happened in Mumbai recently. The music was launched by Sachin Pilgaonkar and Shankar Mahadevan. The film is directed by Om Raut and music is given by Ajit-Sameer. The event was made spectacular by live performances and trailer of the movie.

Subodh Bhave, one of the most promising actors of Marathi Film Industry, will be playing the role of Bal GangadharTilak in this film. While speaking on this occasion he said, “It was my destiny that I gorthe opportunity to play this role of a great freedom fighter.”

Sachin Pilgaonkar was overwhelmed with the music of this film. “This was Herculean task, which OM Raut has completed. The subject is larger than life and I wish all the best for this film.”

Shankar Mahadevan also commented that being part of this film will be a milestone in his career. “Such projects are very rare, and being associated with this project gave me an insight about the past and the future as well”

The cast and crew of the film, musician Ajit-Sameer,director Om Raut, Subodh Bhave, Chinmay Mandlekar, Producer Neena Raut, Nitin Keni and other dignitaries were present for this event.

“Freedom is my birth-right” he roared from the Shaniwarvada. His voice carried the anger and resent of the entire Indian subcontinent. The Pune relived this moment once again as First look of the Marathi film “Lokmanya- EkYugpurush” was unveiled in a star-studded event. Subodh Bhave has enacted the role of this great freedom fighter and when he appeared on the stage, the entire public yelled “Lokmanyacha Vijay Aso” The Shaniwarwada became alive with memories of that bygone era.

For the event along with cast and crew of the film, Babasaheb Purandare, Deepak Tilak- great-grandson of Tilak, Nitin Keni from Essel Vision and other dignitaries were present.

The film is releasing on 2 January all over Maharashtra. The film is produced by Neena Raut films and presented by Essel Vision. The director of the film is Om Raut.

While speaking on this occasion Babasaheb Purandare said, “This is indeed a very proud moment for every one of us. He was the first revolutionary in India against British. I wish best of luck for this film.”

Subodh Bhave, who has earlier portrayed BalGandharv on celluloid is very contented to portray LokmanyaTilak. “It was Lokmanya who named Narayan Shreepad Rajhans as Bal Gandharv. I am very fortunate to be a part of this project. Credit for this role and its research goes to Om”

The event was made very special by dance performance by Sharvari Jamenis, powada by Devanand Mali and his group, Lokmanya Powada by Nandesh Umap and his group, LokmanyStavan by Hrishikesh Badve. The program was hosted by Prasad Oak and Spruha Joshi and interviews by Sudheer Gadgil.
