A few years ago a film redefined the whole genre of romance in Marathi. Prakash Kunte directorial ‘Coffee Ani Barach Kahi’ starred Vaibhav Tatwawadi & Prarthana Behere in the lead. Their light-hearted modern take on romance gave a fresh life to the dying genre of Marathi cinema. Since then, they did work again in some films & now soon coming together for another new film.

Recently Vaibhav Tatwawadi revealed from his official twitter account that he is doing a new film with Prarthana Behere. And so many fans of Vaibhav & Prarthana started predicting that this new film would be nothing else but ‘Coffee Ani Barach Kahi 2’!

None of it has been confirmed as of now, but even if it’s a different film, watching Vaibhav & Prarthana together will definitely be a treat for their fans & other film loving audiences. Vaibhav also revealed that the shooting of this new film will soon commence.

Prakash Kunte directed Coffee aani Barach kahi has been getting rave reviews from critics and shows are going Housefull all over Maharashtra. This is a cute lovestory mainly focusing on communication gaps in a relationship. The film stars a fresh pair : Vaibhav Tatwawdi and Prarthana Behere. Marathistars.com spoke with Prarthana, the leading lady of this sweet film to know more about her role in this film.

So are you excited about Coffee ani barach kahi?

Yes, I am. I am very glad that this film is finally reaching audience in such a grand way. When we started working on this project, it was a small film. We all were very much new in this field including director, writers and actors. So we never thought that this film will create so much buzz around. People love the promos and songs of this film. This is mainly because this is a genuine effort by Prakash. The love-story is presented in a very sweet way.

You are portraying a very romantic and dreamy girl in this film. What would you like to tell us about your role?

In Mitwaa I played a completely different character. This character was unlike me. Playing Agni was a challenge for me. In Coffee, I play character of Jaee, this is again a different character. She has no resemblance to Prarthana or Agni. I have also worked hard for this role. I always think that actors are like salesman. Directors have different demands, just like customers. We have to fulfill all such demands to give justice to that role.

Audience is liking your and Vaibhav’s pairing. What would you like to say about it?

Vaibhav is one of those very few actors who convey emotions through their eyes. It was fun to work with him, as we were constantly speaking between the lines. We had a great rapport while shooting and I hope people will appreciate this chemistry.

This is a debut film by Prakash Kunte. How was the experience?

Coincidently, first time I met him in a café. He gave me script of this film. Next day morning I called him at seven and told I am ready to work for this film without asking anything else. Prakash does not speak much, so while working we were not quite sure whether we are performing as per his expectations or not. However, after finishing our first schedule of ten days, Prakash said that Jaee and Nishad could not have done by anybody else! This was a huge compliment for both of us.

What is this film’s USP? Why people should come to see this film?

Though, most people think that it is film is about youth, it actually appeals to everyone. The language speaks of youth but feelings are for every age group. Love means communication. We do not give any significance for such small time communications in day today life. We do have so many things to tell, but we miss these tiny communications. The film talks about such communication gaps in relationships.

How different is actor prarthana from real prarthana?

(Laughs) Once a director told me that you are so different behind camera. You behave as if you are completely different person, you should behave like this in front of camera! But I think, I am the same person everywhere. Even in real life I am very expressive. I generally don’t keep anything in my mind. I cannot pretend, I have to be just true to myself, in front of camera as well as behind camera.

While choosing any role, what are your priorities?

I always go by my instinct. What is the story, or how much they are paying me, who is the director and producer such questions come into my mind only afterwards, but the first is always my instinct. I seek advice from many people, but ultimately go by my instincts only. God has been kind to me. Pavitra Rishta was my first TV serial. I just went to the audition and got the role. So it always has been my own instincts that lead to my destiny.

Where are you most comfortable while working, cinema, TV serials or theatre?

I think as an actor all these mediums are one and same. I will act in a same way whether I am working for TV show or for a film. We are here to entertain people. In every medium requires same amount of hard work.

How do you like to spend your free time?

There was a time when I had only “free time” and no work. However, touchwood now I am getting good roles and good work so there is no time at all. I like to think a lot when I have time. I also like painting, music and most importantly sleeping. I love to spend my free time sleeping.

Can you please tell us about your upcoming projects?

I have my next film release in June. It is titled as Tujhyavin Mar Jaana with debutant Vikas Patil. It is a college love story. Though I am again playing a Punjabi in this film, this is different from Bhatinda. Also, I am doing one more film with Vaibhav. This is a love triangle directed by Jalinder Kumbhar. Another two three projects are in the pipeline. I would like to do perform various roles and entertain audience.

Review:

The current generation is suffering from generation gap when it comes to marriage. While they don’t consider concepts like ‘marriageable age’, their parents think otherwise. This conflict is explored in director Prakash Kunte’s Coffee Ani Barach Kahi through a love story that youngsters of today’s era will relate to. However, this doesn’t ensure a quality product since the film suffers in the writing department.

Jai is a girl-next-door believing in fairytale romances. She has recently fallen in love with her senior at work, Nishad (Vaibhav Tatyawadi). He too has similar feelings for her. One evening, Nidhad calls Jai at a coffee shop as he has decided to finally propose her. However, just as Jai is about to leave, her father informs her that his friend’s son (Bhushan Pradhan) will be coming to see her for marriage. What will she do now?

Coffee Ani Barach Kahi scores well while presenting a realistic situation of a young girl mildly forced to meet a prospective groom while she is in love with someone else. Although this idea isn’t novel by any means, it is presented in a new-age manner, which also makes sure that the parents don’t turn out to be atyacharis, thankfully. The same modern presentation is also seen in the office romance. The real subtle humor too makes the proceedings viewer-friendly in the first half, despite not much story progression.

After defining the basic plot in the first half, you naturally expect the story to move forward. Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen as the audience is presented pretty much the same thing that they were served in the first half. The writers tell us the story we already know and present us with the age-old filmi climax. It appears as if in a bid to make the film simple, they end up making it bland.

The film is blessed by the magical romantic track ‘Rang He Nave Nave’. Its violin tune, which is also used in the background, deserves to be saved in your mobile phone. The cinematography and editing turn out to be decent.

Prarthana Behre is does justice to the character of Jai, in which she fits perfectly. Vaibhav Tatwawadi is also natural. You easily feel for him. Bhushan Pradhan does well as the mature guy who comes to see Jai. After Samhita and Ajoba, Neha Mahajan continues her good work. Ashwini Ekbote, Vidyadhar Joshi, Ila Bhate and Suyash Tilak offer good support. Dilip Prabhavalkar is memorable in a cameo.

Overall:

Coffee Ani Barach Kahi is an average romantic film. The film will have a tough time at the box office due to biggies like Detective Byomkesh Bakshy and Fast & Furious 7 releasing on the same day.

Also, Vishakha Subhedar returns to silver screen in her usual comic avatar in Saasuche swayamvar. Omkar Mane has directed this comic movie and also stars Pushkar Jog, Vijay Chavan, Teja Devkar, Sunil Pal, Jaywant Wadkar and Satish Tare.

Court, one of the most powerful and realistic film also releasing on 17 April in India. Chaitanya Tamhane directed this film has won National award & more than 17 awards in various international film festivals. The film has been praised by critics and hopes to generate enough attention at the box office as well.

“What About Savarkar” is also ready for release on 17th April. This film is about ideologies of Swaantryaveer Savarkar and his ardent follower. The film revolves around how a single youth can create a revolution with the Savarkar’s philosophy. The film is jointly directed by Rupesh Katare and Nitin Gawde..

Prakash Kunte’s “Coffee ani barach kahi” is ready for release on 3 April 2015. This romantic film has a lead pair of Vaibhav Tatwawdi and Prarthana Behere. Our reporter spoke with Vaibhav about his role in this cute and sweet film.

Why this film is titled as “Coffee ani barach kahi” What is the target audience for this film?

Coffee means communication. Coffee represents that relationship between love and mere friendship. The film depicts this romance very beautifully. Though this is a romantic movie, it does target any particular group. Any person can enjoy this lovely film. Romance does not have age bars. Love relates to everyone. Even my grandparents enjoyed this film. This is a complete family entertainer.

How this film is different from other romantic tales?

It is different mainly in presentation and narration. Director has cut out some fabulous moments. Also, it has some sweet music. I will not claim that our film is Hatke, but I will definitely say that our film is a pleasant and enjoyable watch for everyone.

How was your experience working with Prarthana?

It was an amazing experience. This is my first film with her. We hit it off from day one. She is a very talented girl on screen, and off screen she is very cooperative. Our rapport ensured no ego clashes on sets. It was a kind of fun working with her. I am also working with her in my next film as well.

How much can you relate to Nishad, your character?

Nishad is an introvert, he can’t speak frankly. I did not realize this initially, however, as we started shooting, I started thinking, this guy is just like me. I am sure even audience can identify with this character, who cannot say what is there in his mind at a right time. Nishad is a complete unromantic in his life, on the contrary, real life Vaibhav is a hardcore romantic guy.

Any funny incident while shooting!

We were shooting for a song sequence in the rain. It was suppose to be raining and winds blowing in that shot. Unfortunately due to some problems, the blower and rain making equipment did not come on the sets. As it was a close-up shot, crew was waving thermocol sheets in front of me to create an effect of wind. Some crew members including our director were throwing bucket full of water on me from the terrace. It was very funny. When you looking at this shot, you will not believe how we had done. It looks super romantic on screen, behind camera it was a complete comedy.

What would you like to tell our readers about this film?

I just want to say, if you have ever fallen in love, then this is a film for you. We had worked from the bottom of our hearts. This is our genuine and sincere effort, and I am sure people will like it very much. I urge all the romantic people to go and watch this film.

Tell us how this engineer became an actor?

I was interested in acting since beginning but I have also given importance for my education as well. Education creates a personality for you, it defines you. I did not have any filmy background. My parents advised me to do right thing at a right time. My father told me that he cannot help with my filmy career, but he can always support me for my education. I am really glad that I took his advice. My college made me an actor. COEP is one of the best institutes in our country and I am really proud that I have completed my engineering from there.

Can you tell us about future project?

Recently I have wrapped up shooting for “Cheaper” directed by Ajay Phansekar. This film has been shot 80% in Mauritius and my co-star will be Pooja Sawant. I am working with Sanskriti Balgude in “Shortcut” This film is based on engineering student life. Also, I am working in an untitled film with Prarthana which will be directed by Jalindar Kumbhar. In Hindi, Hunterr has released recently and doing good at box office. There is Bajirao Mastani, a mega budget project. I am also working for Lipstickvale Sapne, a Prakash Jha film.

So total seven films ready to release this year.. It seems you are going to be very busy. So does that mean you will be away from TV?

Let us hope that audience gives a positive feedback to my films. Yes, I am concentrating on films, so television is not happening right now.

Plot outline : What happens when two young people meet and start liking each other? Somebody takes initiative, express the feelings and then if both feel the same, they click . But what happens when Jaai and Nishad meets is comedy of errors. Jaai is a girl whose ideas of romance are blossomed by following all Hindi films. While for Nishad love is an illusion, he’s amazed with the fact that people are so desperate to fall in love. How typical it might be , but the fact is opposite attracts .Falling in love turns out to be an easy process for Jaai .While Nishad tries to figure out that how the hell he can like someone like Jaai ? It becomes pretty difficult for him to digest .After a lot of thinking, when he isn’t left with any other option than to accept the fact that he has fallen for her.Since they like each other, the next step would be ‘guy asks out’. For Jaai proposal has to come from Nishad, while he thinks that they will mutually get there.
So even after liking each other, being stubborn they stick to their opinions, till an incident happens where they need to take a final decision. Do they meet or part their ways?
Well , we all know the end. But the film is not about destination, its about journey which ends with a beginning.

In a high octave event full of fanfare, Sanjay Chhabria and Puja Chhabria of White Swan Productions and maverick filmmaker Ravi Jadhav unveiled a Special Promotional Music Video and music of their highly anticipated film ‘Coffee Aani Barach Kahi’. The film is scheduled to hit the silver screen on 3rd April 2015.

Directed by debutant Prakash Kunte features lead pair of Prarthana Behere and Vaibbhav Tatwawdi, ‘Coffee Aani Barach Kahi’s’ music has been composed by Aditya Bedekar and the lyrics have been provided by legendary Mangesh Padgaonkar and Yogesh Damle.

The event was a star studded with the Marathi industry coming together in support of the film. In addition to Sanjay Chhabria, Ravi Jadhav, stalwarts of the Marathi film industry were also present along with the complete cast of the film including Prarthana Behere, Vaibbhav Tatwawadi, Bhushan Pradhan, Suyash Tilak, Neha Mahajan, Shashaa Tirupati and Aditya Bedekar.

The highlight of the evening however, was the unveiling of the special promotional music video of the film and live soulful performances by Shasha Tirupati on the unplugged version of ‘Rang He Nave Nave’, leaving all those present mesmerized and spellbound.

The ‘Coffee Aani Barach Kahi’ album contains three tracks, one being a romantic number ‘Rang He Nave Nave’, the other ‘Tu Astis Tar’ being a sad romantic number and the last ‘It’s Awesome’ being the promotional track. The Glimpses of the song on the social media have already garnered significant traction and curiosity.

Commenting on the film’s music, composer Aditya Bedekar said; “Prakash was sure that they wanted only two songs with all tracks having a very specific purpose. I have tried my best to ensure that the songs not just take the film’s story and mood forward but are of a high hummable and lyrical quality.”

Talking about the launch, Sanjay said; “We were quiet excited when we heard the script and instantly we decided to back the film. The songs and the music have also shaped up fantastically and apart from their high melodic, lyrical and music quality, they add great depth and meaning to the film.”

“I really like all the songs from the album, but the one which stands out for me is ‘Rang He Nave Nave’. Shasha Tirupati’s vocals have really added great feels to the song..” added Ravi.

Coffee Aani Barach Kahi is an unusual yet very relatable love story that revolves around Jaai (Prathana) a typical filmy girl and Nishaad (Vaibhav) for who love is just impossible.  The story then takes us through a series of twists and turns laced with comedy of errors driven clean humour brining us to the ultimate question of would they eventually get together It is a sweet romantic film which will tug your heartstrings in all the right places and leave you with a smile when you finish seeing it. The film has already generated buzz on the various social media platforms.
