Pushkar Shrotri’s directorial debut Ubuntu is gearing up for the 15 September release. The makers of the film have recently released a teaser for this film.  

The teaser tells a story about a village school. The school children are from remote places. The child actors are very good in the teaser. Bhaygrashree Sankpal (chiu from Balak Palak) looks very confident in the leading role.

The film has a fresh look and deals with a serious topic. India is one of the highest percentages of children who leave school even before completing the primary education. The film focuses on such one small village school and its problems.

Pushkar has managed to keep the teaser short and exciting. The title of the film is a bit unusual but the subject is very sensitive.

The film has been produced under the banner of “Fabled Stories”. The music composer is Kaushal Inamdar and lyrics are by Shreerang  Godbole.

The film will be releasing on 15 September all over Maharashtra.

Director Prasad Oak seems to be presenting us a sensitive film. The black and white motion teaser of his directorial venture Kaccha Limbu is fabulous. Ravi Jadhav and Sonali Kulkarni look amazing as a middle class couple. Sachin Khedekar is once again brilliant as Sonali’s boss. Manmeet Pem plays role of a teenager boy with an exceptionally great caliber. The motion teaser has been done exceptionally good and the overall look has been maintained as per the sensitivity of the subject.

The subject of this film deals with a sensitive issue of a mentally challenged boy, and how the parents suffer. The original story has been written by legendary Marathi write Jaywant Dalvi and story-screenplay is by Chinmay Mandlekar. The music for this film has been composed by Rahul Ranade.

This is an acting debut for Ravi Jadhav. After giving us superhit films like Natrang and Timepass, Ravi has decided to come in front of the camera. He and Manmeet have a great deal of resemblance and they are convincing as father-son. Sonali is brilliant as usual. The teaser has been cut very smartly and gives just a enough glimpse about the plot and the characters.

Thank God! That’s what we said after watching FU Trailer (Friendship Unlimited trailer). First of all, it is not a love story of school-going kids. Second, the story is set in current era and not in the backdrop of 70s or 80s. The film has huge expectations since beginning as it stars Sairat star Akash Thosar in the lead role. The trailer is very fresh and not unlike many Marathi films. If Sairat was all about rural youth, FU takes a completely different turn and defines urban youth in a playful way.

Akash looks very convincing as an urban college youth. His look brings out a stylish yet simple persona very charmingly. As the name suggests it is a story of college friends who think nothing can set them apart. Apart from Akash and Satya, the gang of friends includes Mayuresh Pem, Pawandeep and Shubham Kirodian. The film has a definitely very big star cast including Sharad Ponkshe, Sachin Khedekar, Boman Irani, Madhav Deochakke, Bharati Achrekar, Anand Ingle, Isha Koppikar, Chetan Hasraj and Mahesh Manjrekar. The female lead has been taken care by glamorous girls like Sanskruti Balgude and Vaidehi Parshurami. The film also has sizzling diva Kashmira Shah in a very important role.

The trailer is very colorful and very smartly edited. It gives us a glimpse of the story, at the same time makes some interesting points about the film. The music by Sameer Saptiskar and Vishal Mishra is already topping the charts.

Mrinmayee Godble was earlier seen in critically acclaimed Vees Mhanje Vees and Rajwade and Sons. Her next film “Chi va Chi Sau Ka” will be releasing this Friday. The Paresh Mokashi directed light hearted film has already created buzz as it marks the debut of Television heart-throb Lalit Prabhakar.

Tell us about your experience of working with Lalit?

We didn’t know each other before we started working for this film. As I am not an ardent fan of Marathi serials, I haven’t followed his work on the television. But I knew that he is a very popular household name due to his TV series. We both belong to theatre basically and we are passionate about acting.  Though this is Lalit’s first film, he is more experienced than me in front of camera. Because of his day today shooting for a TV serial he has great camera presence and understanding of the medium. This made very easy for him to adjust on the sets. Lalit motivated me and encouraged me for better work. A costar has to be very supportive, as I believe acting is not just saying your line and be done with it, but it is primarily reacting to what person in front of you is saying.

Tell us about your role and also how did you prepare for it.

This is a romcom- a comedy with a romantic angle. I am playing role of Savitri, she is a veterinary doctor and this is not just a profession for her. By nature, she is an animal lover and Lalit plays role of an environmentalist. Both of our characters have very strong principles which will create some unimaginable situations for us as well as for our families.

Interestingly, I and Lalit both are Kung Fu players in the film. Lalit has been learning this type of martial arts since sometime. But I have to learn Kung Fu for this film. As I was a national level basket ballplayer and also done Kalaripayettu ( Kerali martial Arts) so it became very easy for me to follow. Lalit and I had taken out Kung Fu sessions together where Paresh (director) and Madhugandha (writer) also joined us. This it worked as an ice breaker for all of us. As we started practicing together, we also get to know about the film and our characters. It was more like workshop and certain amount of chemistry was built. We had lots of fun on the sets, but at the same time we all were very professional and did out homework required for the shoot.

Paresh and Madhugandha have consistently delivered us good content driven cinema with a hard hitting message. How was your experience?

In my earlier film, Vees Mhanaje Vees, Madhugandha played a very small role and we met each other during the shoot. So far I have done the films which are not just about the entertainment but also has a very strong message which I would like to give out personally as well. Rajwade spoke about youth and its problems. Vees Mhanje Vees was about education scenario in rural Maharashtra. Chi vs Chi Sau Ka talks about animal welfare and environment, but this is not a very prechy film. The core of the film carries a message but it is wrapped in a complete entertainment package.

Paresh is a great director as he understands what an actor wants and actors are really vulnerable, and emotional. It is very imp for the director to be more compassionate, patient and clear in the communication. It made things a lot easier. He has very nice great healthy one -on-one relationship with all of the cast members. I have a great respect for him, but for me he is a great friend and very approachable for an actor.

Are you an animal lover in your real life as well?

Oh yes, I have two dogs at my Pune home. They are called Cyrus and Munshi. I have also adopted a dog at Mumbai residence.. He is very curious by nature so we have named him Sherlock. I have always been fond of animals. We shot at an actual animal rescue shelter in Mumbai. This was a great learning experience for me. I spent long time during shoot at this shelter, and observe how the animals are rescued, treated and relocated. I learnt a great deal about the animals and the cruelty of the human beings. This will help me in the future whenever I will see an animal torture.

Tell us about your future projects.

I am doing a bilingual film in Hindi and English directed by Kranti Kanade. His film revolves around a prestigious drama competition- Purushottam Karandak in Pune. I am looking forward for this film as the subject very close to me. I have also done a very small part in Akshay Kumar starrer Batman. Also, in theatre I am performing three plays. One is with Paresh Rawal called Dear Father (in Hindi and Gujrati) and another is an experimental play in Marathi with Asakt Kalamanch, a Pune based group. I am also doing a Hindi play based on the subject of Palestine. As the film will be releasing this weekend, I will resume my theatre work very soon.

Salman Khan has sung a Gachhi Marathi song for Mahesh Manjrekar’s new youth-centric film “FU (Friendship Unlimited)” The song is composed by Sameer Saptiskar and along with Salman Khan, Vishal Mishra has lent his vocals for the song. The tune of the song is very much similar to old classic song “Pancchi Banoo Udti Firoo”. Salman Khan’s voice is very great to listen!

However, the song has some witty and double-meaning lyrics. Sachin Pathak has given some catchy lines for the song. The song has been picturized on Akash Thosar, Satya Manjrekar, Vaidehi Parshurami, Sanskruti Balgude and Kashmira Shah. Kashmira looks absolutely gorgeous in this song. The dance moves are very simple and Akash and Satya follow them perfectly. We loved glamerous look of Vaidehi and Sanskruti. Girls are already waiting for this film as this will be second film of Akash. Akash was last seen in Nagraj Manjule’s Sairat as male lead Parashya.

Shivya, a film by Sakar Raut is ready for the release. The title of the film is a bit different, and teasers have added curiosity for the audience. The film stars Bhushan Pradhan and Sanskruti Balgude in the lead roles. We have seen Bhushan and Sanskruti together in Pinjra (serial) and Nivadunga.

We spoke with Bhushan about his new film and his role. Here are some excerpts from this interview.

Bhushan, tell us about your role in Shivya.

I am playing role of Raghav, main protagonist of the film. This character has a bad habit of swearing and using bad words all the time. He is not an evil person, but his mouth always lands him in the trouble. He creates a bad impression with his swearing words even while calling his friend in the public. His personal and professional life is disturbed. One day, he decided that he will not use such words. What happens next will be seen in the film. I will not tell you much about it; otherwise we will miss the fun part. Playing this role was very entertaining for me.

Did the makers of the film face any problems with censor board due to such bad words?

Not as such. We have found a great solution to this problem in the second half which you have to see on the screen. The first half contains such words, but either we have used acceptable words which censor board has Okayed. This is not a  film for the children, as the subject is not appropriate for them. Yet, some words have been either muted out or beeped. It gives slight disturbance to the flow of the film. Apart from that, I don’t think there was any problem with the censor board.

You have done a serial and films with Sanskruti. How the experience has been?

As I have worked with her previously on small screen and big screen, there is a definite comfort between us.   We shot for this film and then did Nigvadunga. However, Nivadunga released first as this film’s post production took some time.We love working with each other. Comfort level and our friendship make our working even more interesting. We know how other person will react in front of the camera. This comfort level enhances our screen presence and chemistry.

This will be your second film with director Sakar Raut.

Yes, I have done “kalakar” with him earlier. It was his debut film as a director. We are growing as a team. We were newcomers by then, so we decided to make better films by learning and undoing our mistakes. Sakar trusts his actors and make them comfortable. He has a clear vision about what he wants to show on the screen. However, that does not mean that he will tell us exactly what to do. He will give a freedom to the actor and still get a perfect shot. This is one of those rare production houses which treat actors very professionally. Working with them is a great experience.   They have bettered there working style and made it more proficient. I prefer working with such people.

Marathi films are getting more awards in recent years. Do you think there is an increasing gap between “a film” for classes and masses?

No. Actually I think the gap is diminishing. We are making films which have a class and will make a good turnout at box office. We have always made great films, but unfortunately getting a theatre release for such films was our problem. See the example of films like Fandry. The film was critically acclaimed and won many national and international film festival awards. The film did very good at the box office. I am glad that such films are being made and released so that Marathi audience is growing in terms of visual arts. Audience is waiting for such films; I think this is surely a good sign for the audience.

Can you tell us more about your upcoming films?

My two films are ready for the release. One is Dadar Mumbai 28 where I am playing a major role. Tee aani itar is a film by Govind Nihlani, where I am working with Subodh Bhave, Sonali Kulkarni and Amruta Subhash. Recently I have completed a shoot with Prarthana for an untitled film. The post production for this film is going on and will be releasing in the second part of this year.

Apart from acting what are your hobbies?

Acting was my hobby, but I turned into a profession. I also like to watch English films. They have such fantastic day to day stories in their romantic comedies. Watching such film is a great stress buster for me.

Remember that dance number from Satya- Sapno Me Milti Hai. We bet you will remember the same song after watching Hald Lagli from Nagarsevak. Two side actors dancing on a wedding song, hero and his girl are looking at each other with that doe-eyed romance, local politician entering the wedding hall with all his shaan, dream sequence of our hero and then at the end some fast dance beats and someone beating up are happening simultaneously. All from the Satya song and used as a template for this song.

Priyanaka Nagare and Shyam Thombre are the dancing Jodi of this song and they fail miserably. The dance steps, rhythm and mood even the lip syncing is not proper. The Jodi does not have any striking chemistry and the typical Bollywood style choreography becomes very mundane. Upendra and Neha, the lead pair of the film keep looking at each other, but the very bad editing makes those somber romance moments very sketchy and ultimately it becomes unintentionally funny.

Music is by Dev Ashish and lyrics are by Bipin Dhaigude. The use of typical Hindi words gives a very bumpy effect to the song as it is neither traditional wedding song nor a contemporary song. The music lacks a punch and yet it will be surely become a favorite wedding song for the upcoming wedding season.

The trailer of Nagarsevak – Ek Nayak. The film stars Upendra Limaye in the lead role and Neha Pendse will be seen as the love interest of this local politician. The hardcore action film is directed by Deepak Kadam and produced by Shashikant Chaudhary under the banners of Jash Pictures.

The trailer shows a shrewd politician (Sayaji Shinde) and how he mocks democracy by winning elections by hook or crook. The hero (Upendra Limyae) stands against him in a local corporater election. The trailer heavily implies that this is a south-Indian style action melodrama. It also reminds us of famous Soth Indian (and later made into Hindi) Nayak. Though Upendra Limaye is a good choice for such angry young man role, he can do better than such melodramatic roles as he has done previously .

The story and screenplay is by Bipin Dhaigude and Abhijeet Kulkarni. The music is composed by Dev-Ashish. The socio-political drama will be released very soon all over Maharashtra.
