Synopsis :

A middle-aged housewife Arundhati has dedicated her life to her husband and children. Realising that her efforts were in vain, as nobody recognises or appreciates her work and sacrifice as a housewife, she sets out instead to carve out her own identity.

She realises that her family, except for Yash and Appa, don’t respect her. During a competition at Isha’s school, she takes Sanjana (Anirudh’s colleague & love interest) with her by feigning Arundhati’s illness, while Arundhati arrives unexpectedly to win The Best Mother’s Title. Later, the school authorities offer her a job. She takes it but is not able to perform it well due to her family obligations. Here Abhishek, her elder son, is in love with Ankita, the daughter of a very well known doctor couple. Ankita’s mother refuses to accept their relation due to education status of Arundhati, because of which Abhishek agrees to leave the house and to become a Gharjavai but Arundhati brings him back promising to look into the matter. After that, in a frustrated state Abhishek comes home drunk. Arundhati talks with Revati (Ankita’s mother) and she agrees for the engagement ceremony of Abhishek and Ankita. Meanwhile, Sanjana and Anirudh continue their relationship when Kedar (Anirudh’s brother in law) accidentally comes to know about it, he tries to tell Arundhati, but because of her blind belief and trust on Anirudh, he just warns Anirudh and stays quite. Yash bumps with a girl name Gauri and falls in love with her on first sight. Gauri is Sanjana’s niece from USA. Revati puts an absurd wish in front of Arundhati to give a single solitaire ring to Ankita, Arundhati buys it for Ankita after selling the jewelry which she got from her own mother in her wedding.

The ring gets stolen. Later, it is revealed that Neelima stole it. A boy name Siddhu harasses Isha, Arundhati takes the matter in her hands and punishes him. Abhishek and Ankita get engaged without Arundhati’s presence. Sanjana comes to Deshmukh’s house in the night along with Nikhil stating that Shekhar had beaten her up. Arundhati being kind, offers for her to stay for some days while Kanchan is unhappy about it. When Kedar comes to take Meenu, he comes to know about it and warns Sanjana. Next day due to Sanjana’s son’s lie to her that Kanchan beats him, Sanjana insults Kanchan. Seeing this Arundhati throws Sanjana out of the house which creates a misunderstanding between Anirudh and Arundhati. Later, Anirudh throws Arundhati out of the house at night. Arundhati finds her friend Devika, Devika takes Arundhati at her home and explains her that her family is taking her granted. Arundhati decides to create her separate identity but next she forgets everything and start beheaving life before. A very Next Day A Pandit comes to Deshmukh’s House to talk about Shravan Pooja but Yash Decides to do Remariage of Their Parents on this pooja as their 25th Anniversary was arriving. Everything Aggress for that except Aniruddha later everyone convince him and he agrees. Learning this Sanjana also decided to get Married to Anirrudha on his weeding day with Arundhathi in Temple before their Marriage but on Marriage day Anirrudha not goes to Temple because Kedar Stops him. Angry Sanjana comes to Anirrudha house to tell Arundhati truth of her and Anirrudha’s Affair but Anirrudha Stops her and express his love towards her in Arundhati and his bedroom and Arundhati sees that. After that she falls unconcious and goes mad. but soon recovers and decides to teach Aniruddha lesson of his Betrayal and she starts living on her own terms.

Yash and Isha also learn truth and ask Anirrudha reason of this. Later Anirrudha decides to Start her Singing again and also learn also the thing that she remained to learn like driving car, Teaching etc. Now she changes her Attitude towards Anirrudha Questions him for everything. Anirrudha tries to get out of this situation and decides to spend time at a resort in lonvala by lying Appa and Kanchan that he is going for office work to hyderabad. Later Arundhati’s Friend Devika gifts her three day ticket to lonawala whole Deshmukh Family decides to go lonvala. Whole Family reach Lonavala and they are at the same resort where Anirrudha and Sanjana are. Anirrudha Plans for Sanjana’s Birthday Surprise and he call each and every guest of resort of Sanjana’s Birthday Party but he doesn’t knew that his family is also in this resort. As Sanjana’s Birthday Party Anirrudha Proposes Sanjana and whole Deshmukh Family Sees this. After Seeing this Kanchan and Appa slaps Anirrudha and Blames him and also asks For Forgiveness from Arundhati. Aniruddha blames Arundhati for this situation.

Next Day Kanchan Calls Sanjana at their himd and insults her and Appa decides that he will do all his property on Arundhathi’s Name and this negative situation in house Isha leaves the house and later is Kidnapped by a Gang but shekhar (Sanjan’s Husband) saves her. After so much Drama Anirrudha decides to leave the house and go to Sanjana’s home but he was not comfortable at Sanjana’s home because She was not cooking like Arundhati and he had to ate Bread Butter at her home. As Diwali was arriving Everyone was preparing for that on the day of Laxmi Pujan Anirrudha tells Sanjana that his Family will not do Laxmi Pujan Without him but Appa tells that Arundhati will do Laxmi Pujan and after getting that Arundhathi done Laxmi Pujan he gets Angry and decides to Divorce her.Aniruddha reaches Sanjana’s home and gets extremely angry when he sees Shekhar and Sanjana together with Nikhil.At the Day of Bhaidooj Kanchan’s Brother Tatya arrives and family try to hide Anirruddha’s Secret so they invite him to home. After coming home Anirdudha decides to teach Arundhati a lesson and Tatya tells him to do all household chores.

Viewpoint: Director Sameer Patil of ‘Poshter Boyz’, ‘Poshter Girl’ & ‘Shentimental’ fame has a habit of tickling us and pinching us both at same time through his issue based social comedies. In his newest film ‘Vikun Taak’ he again succeeds in doing the same though the issue feels a bit forced in the end of the film, and film’s plot jumbles itself up also by the end. Yet the overall experience of watching the film remains pleasant.

What Works? 

• Casting has been crucial to all of Sameer Patil films. He truly wins his first battle by getting the right people for the right part. And he does it again! From Shivraj Waichal in the lead, to Chunky Pandey as an ‘Arab’ (with a deliberately silly Arab accent) or the new actor (Rohit Mane) who plays the hero’s friend, and the rest of the ensemble cast all of them fit their parts perfectly and compliment each other through their performances.
• Another common trait in Sameer Patil‘s films is the way he marries old Marathi cinema subjects to modern sensibilities. His films though set in rural or urban backdrops they would easily appeal to both audiences. For example in the beginning of the film we see a marriage being called off at the very last moment, something we have seen so many times in our old Marathi films, but the twist here is that it’s been called off by the bride’s side instead of the groom’s! And this isn’t a gimmick in any way!
• Vikun Taak’s biggest strength is even though it uses a social backdrop to extract humour from, it never disrespects and sensationalize the backdrop. On a plot level yes it feels jumbled up by the end but we never feel that the backdrop was just there as a filmy element, it feels authentic.
• The film sets up it’s conflict effectively in the beginning of the film and because of that we feel for the protagonist and are really want him to get out of trouble. Had the set up failed in making us feel for him, the journey would have been less interesting.
• The humour is hit and miss, sometimes the joke work and sometimes they feel a bit cringy (especially in the second half) but there is still a newness about the humour that doesn’t make us feel we are watching something that we’ve watched before.

What Fails? 

• I said that the film has an authentic social backdrop but beyond that there’s a specific social issue and social commentary regarding human organ trafficking in the film. Which arrives too late in the film and feels forced into the plot. Had the film introduced it earlier, it would have really raised the stakes for the ‘thrill’ part of the film.
• There’s a love angle in the film that never really feels justified for it’s existence. It simply feels like a mandatory inclusion to have a female “heroine” in the film.
• As said above the plot of the film jumbles itself up in the end. The film feels a bit confused on the point it wanted to make, and we realize the point they wanted to make had nothing to do with the plot but had to do with the lately introduced social issue. While doing so it also forcefully villainizes a supporting character who always felt really harmless.

Final Verdict: ‘Vikun Taak’ is a fun film overall that is well acted and directed and give us a good light feeling that lasts at least a day but it’s very doubtful whether it will have any repeat watchable value or not?

सध्या ज्या चित्रपटाची सगळीकडे जोरदार चर्चा आहे तो चित्रपट म्हणजे ‘विकून टाक‘. उत्तुंग हितेंद्र ठाकूर निर्मित आणि समीर पाटील दिग्दर्शित ‘विकून टाक’ हा चित्रपट येत्या १४ फेब्रुवारीला प्रदर्शित होत आहे. या चित्रपटाचे ‘चांदवा’ हे  प्रमोशनल गाणे डॉ. दिव्या बिजूर या अंध मुलीने गायले असून त्या पेशाने फिजिओथेरपिस्ट आहेत.  त्यांच्या या गाण्याच्या अनुभवाबद्दल डॉ.दिव्या सांगतात, ” ‘विकून टाक’ या चित्रपटाचे क्रिएटिव्ह कन्सल्टंट राजेंद्र वनमाळी यांनी मला एका समारंभात गाणे गाताना ऐकले आणि त्यांना ते गाणे खूप आवडले. तेव्हा राजेंद्र सरांनी उत्तुंगजींकडे माझी शिफारस केली. त्यानंतर उत्तुंगजींनी माझा आधीचा एक प्रदर्शित झालेला अल्बम ऐकला आणि या चित्रपटामध्ये गाणे गाण्याची संधी दिली.  दुसरी गोष्ट म्हणजे ‘अ विवा इनएन प्रॉडक्शन’ सारख्या एवढ्या मोठ्या प्रॉडक्शन’  हाउसमध्ये काम करण्याची संधी मिळाली, त्यामुळे उत्तुंग ठाकूरजींची मी खूप आभारी आहे. तसेच संगीतकार अमितराज यांच्यासोबत काम करण्याचे स्वप्न ‘विकून टाक’ या चित्रपटामुळे शक्य झाले आहे. हा चित्रपट अवयवदानासारख्या महत्वाच्या विषयावर भाष्य करणारा आहे. मला या गाण्याच्या रूपाने एक चांगली संधी मिळाली जेणेकरून मी अवयवदानाबद्दल जागृती पसरवू शकते.”

‘अ विवा इनएन प्रॉडक्शन’ आणि उत्तुंग हितेंद्र ठाकूर निर्मित ‘विकून टाक’ या सिनेमाचे दिग्दर्शन समीर पाटील यांनी केले असून, क्रिएटिव्ह कन्सल्टंट म्हणून राजेंद्र वनमाळी यांनी काम पहिले आहे. या सिनेमात शिवराज वायचळ, रोहित माने, राधा सागर, ऋजुता देशमुख, समीर चौगुले, हृषीकेश जोशी, रोहित माने, वर्षा दांदळे, जयवंत वाडकर यांच्या मुख्य भूमिका असणार आहेत.

‘बालक पालक‘, ‘यलो‘, ‘डोक्याला शॉट‘ सारख्या दर्जेदार चित्रपटांची निर्मिती करणारे उत्तुंग हितेंद्र ठाकूर यांनी ‘अ विवा इनएन प्रॉडक्शन‘ अंतर्गत मराठी सिनेसृष्टीला आशयपूर्ण, भावनिक आणि त्यासोबतच मनोरंजनात्मक चित्रपट दिले आहेत. यातील ‘यलो‘ या चित्रपटाने राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार पटकावला असून ‘बालक पालक‘, ‘डोक्याला शॉट‘ या चित्रपटांना प्रेक्षकांची पसंती मिळाली. या यशानंतर आता उत्तुंग ठाकूर यांचा ‘विकून टाक‘  हा धमाल, विनोदी चित्रपट प्रेक्षकांच्या भेटीला येत आहे. उत्तुंगने चित्रपट निर्मितीचे धडे परदेशातून घेतले असून तो आता मराठी सिनेमासृष्टीमध्ये चांगल्या विषयांवर चित्रपटाची निर्मिती करत आहे.  

  ‘विकून टाक‘ चित्रपटाबद्दल उत्तुंग सांगतो, “सुरुवातीला ‘विकून टाक’ चित्रपटाची कथा सिद्धेश्वर एकांबे याने मला ऐकवली होती. मला कथेचा विषय आवडला परंतु ही कथा थोडी ‘ब्लॅक कॉमेडी‘कडे झुकणारी होती. कथा ऐकल्यानंतर चित्रपटाच्या दिग्दर्शनासाठी मला समीर पाटील यांचे नाव लक्षात आले. कारण आम्हा दोघांनाही एकत्र काम करायचे होते. त्यानंतर मी आणि समीर यांनी एकत्र भेटून या चित्रपटाची कथा ऐकली आणि सिद्धेश्वरच्या परवानगीने या कथेत थोडा बदल केला असून थोड्या विनोदी पद्धतीने हा विषय मांडण्याच्या प्रयत्न केला आहे. ‘विकून टाक’ हा चित्रपट जरी विनोदी रुपात असला तरीही हा चित्रपट सामाजिक विषयावर भाष्य करतो, असे ही उत्तुंग सांगतो”. उत्तुंगच्या चित्रपटांचे वैशिष्ट्य म्हणजे, त्याचे बॉलीवूडसोबत असलेले कनेक्शन. त्याने निर्मिती केलेल्या चित्रपटांमध्ये बॉलीवूडमधल्या दिग्गज कलाकारांचा सहभाग हा असतो. विकून टाक या चित्रपटामध्ये सुद्धा बॉलीवूड अभिनेता चंकी पांडे पहिल्यांदा मराठी चित्रपटामध्ये काम करत आहे.  दुसरी महत्तवाची गोष्ट म्हणजे उत्तुंग चित्रपटासाठी फक्त आर्थिक सहभाग न दाखवता चित्रपटाच्या सगळ्या प्रक्रियेकडे वैयक्तिक लक्ष देतो.

‘पोस्टर बॉईज’, ‘पोस्टर गर्ल’ असे विनोदी  चित्रपट दिग्दर्शित करणारे समीर पाटील ‘विकून टाक’ चित्रपटाचे देखील दिग्दर्शन करत आहे. ‘विकून टाक’ चित्रपटापूर्वी ‘बालक पालक’, ‘येल्लो’, ‘डोक्याला शॉट’ अशा हिट चित्रपटांची निर्मिती करणारे उत्तुंग हितेंद्र ठाकूर आणि विवा इनएन प्रोडक्शन यांनी या सिनेमाची निर्मिती केली असून क्रिएटिव्ह कन्सल्टंट म्हणून राजेंद्र वनमाळी यांनी काम पहिले आहे. तर  मग नवीन वर्षात मोठा हास्यकल्लोळ करण्यासाठी तयार राहा.

A popular lady writer even wrote on twitter implying & mocking that should we expect multiplexes to sell vada pav! Well now the lady must be shocked as ‘Vada Pav’ is being sold at multiplexes! That too no ordinary ‘Vada Pav’ but the ‘Shiv Vada Pav’!

Thackeray releases in theatres on 25th January in Hindi as well as Marathi. ‘Carnival Cinemas’ is associated with the film & are one of the producers! Hence they have introduced ‘Shiv Vada Pav’ in their food & beverages section!
