Paisa Paisa Marathi Movie Review:

Remakes are quite popular today. Nearly all Salman Khan hits in the recent past have been remakes of South Indian masala potboilers. With the aim to replicate the success of Hindi cinema, marathi producers too have started remaking films from the South, dime by the dozen. Interestingly, none of them have been lapped up by the masses of Maharashtra, but a rooted Sairat is being celebrated. Paisa Paisa that has released today is another remake.

Paisa Paisa is not a potboiler, though, and is a remake of a Malayalam film by the same name. Marathi cinema has had remakes of Malayalam cinema in the last few years, like Classmate and Shutter. Both of them have some substance and you can understand the motive behind the remakes. But here the original script itself is so weak that one wonders what were the people behind the production of the marathi remake of Paisa Paisa thinking.

The basic premise is fairly interesting: A filmmaker gets a phone call saying that his friend has been kidnapped. A ransom of Rs. 10,000 is to be paid in 2 hours. The film then goes on to show us how the filmmaker played by SachitPatil goes around trying to arrange the money. And all of this happens in real time.

The plot certainly has potential of making the film engaging. But you will have to see the film to believe what a poorly written film it is. First of all, the figure of the ransom is hilarious. SachitPatil’s character looks well off and certainly feels capable of arranging the required money in such a dire situation. But shockingly not only him but many other of his friends and acquaintances are also incapable of giving the rather modest amount.

Also, mostly, nothing really happens in the film. Rather the same thing happens over and over again. A single plot point gets repeated again and again and the film gets on to our nerves.

The film also doesn’t feel like it is happening in real time.

Overall:

Paisa Paisa is a poorly written film that makes you wonder why it was remade in the first place!

Paisa Paisa a thriller starring Sachit Patil and Spruha Joshi will be releasing on 13 May 2016. The trailer for this film has been released recently. The trailer gives us glimpses into this suspense thriller. The film revolves around a character kidnapped and the ransom is set for mere Ten Thousand rupees for some reason. How and when this ransom will be paid and what happens next will be seen in this film.

The film has been directed by Joji Raechal Job and produced by Shiv Vilas Chaurasiya. Sachit Patil and Spruha Joshi plays role of a middle-class couple. Spruha’s look is of a typical housewife. Sachit looks very handsome in the spectacles.

As the film is a suspense thriller, the trailer does not give much about the film, but the pace of the story has to be good. As the trailer says that this is a race against time, the trailer shows very fast-paced action and crisp editing. We hope the film matched to the expectation created by the trailer.

Review:

The danger with devotional movies is that in the process of spreading the devotion of a God or Demigod, it can lag behind in proper storytelling. Director Pitambar Kale’s Shegavi Cha Yogi Gajanan suffers from this shortcoming. It is a film only and only for ardent worshipers of Gajanan Maharaj.

As per the title, the film is a biopic on Sant Gajanan Maharaj, who appeared for the first time in Shegaon in Maharashtra in the late nineteenth century. Gajanan Maharaj (Mukund Vasule) was first noticed in Shegaon by Bankatlal (Milind Gunaji), a rich landlord of the village.

Bankatlal is highly impressed and amazed by Maharaj’s ideologies and unmatched kindness. He and his close associates instantly become Maharaj’s dedicated followers. Soon, they realize the miraculous powers Maharaj possesses. Hence, his followers keep on increasing by the day. But along with worshipers, Maharaj also attracts the attention of some evil-doers.

If you are an ardent worshiper of Gajanan Maharaj, chances are that you will find Shegavi Cha Yogi Gajanan somewhat interesting. The film can also boast of rich and realistic production design, which brings alive a bygone era. This is well complemented by some vibrant and accurate costume design. Shivaji Kale, the DoP, has also contributed to the rich frames. Nandu Honap’s music complements the content.

But the basic aim of every feature film is to tell a story, which is clearly missing here. In fact, there is no proper plot. The entire film is just filled with incidents of Maharaj preaching his philosophy and defeating his detractors by performing miracles. Even the climax appears abrupt. The film overdoes in being devotional most of the times. Apart from writing issues, it also suffers from weak direction. This is felt more during the present day scenario, which is purely immature.

Mukund Vasule succeeds in bringing Gajanan Maharaj on screen. But he overdoes in behaving strange. Most probably, he was asked to do so. If he hadn’t done that, the character would have looked more convincing. Milind Gunaji provides a decent act as Bankatlal.

Jackie Shroff is just average in a cameo. There seem to be some problem with the sound of his dialogues. Plus, there are serious lip-sync issues with him during his Qawwali song. Other supporting actors like Bharat Ganeshpure, Prema Kiran, Sanjay Khapre, and others fit the bill.

Overall:

Shegavi Cha Yogi Gajanan is strictly for ardent worshipers. The film might find some takers in the first week, mostly in smaller centers.

According to Shri Dada saheb Khaparde , a close associate of Lokmanya Tilak , Maharaj was a erudite Brahmin from Telanghana or modern Andhra Pradesh and was well versed in Vedic scriptures and knowledge.However no one has been able to conclusively prove when and where Maharaj was born and how he came to Shegaon.
