Abhijeet Panse is back with another film called Ulagaddi after his cult film Rege. The Muhurt for this film was performed recetny at Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari. Entire cast and crew along with Raj Thackeray, Mahesh Manjrekar, Jaywant Wadkar were present for this event.

The film will be shot by famous cinematographer Ravi Varman who has earlier done films like Dashavataram, Ram Leela, Barfi. Art direction has been done by Saloni Dhatrak who has recently completed Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani. The film is produced by Shipla Raut, Sandeep Raut and Abhijeet Panse.

The controversial appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as a chairman of the governing council of FTII has sparked rows among alumni of this institute. Marathi filmmakers like Umesh Kulkarni, Girish Kulkarni, Ravi Jadhav, Avinash Arun and Abhijeet Panse declared their support to the FTII students against this appointment in a press conference.

The movement against this appointment has been going on for past two months, and has gained huge support from the film fraternity. Director Umesh Kulkarni said that, “when they had options like Gulzar, Rajkular Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Choopra, appointing Gajendra Chauhan is really sad”

Girish Kulkarni commented that government has to listen and understand the needs of the students and what FTII stands for in India.

Two best friends are directing two very different films, and yet have decided to share a song in their film. Avadhoot Gupte, director of Ek Tara and Abhijeet Panse director of Rege are such good friends. Shitti Vajali, a song from Rege will be used in Gupte’s Ek Tara. This is actually first time for Marathi film industry. The song will be present in both movies was decided by Gupte while making of Rege.

The song is written by Abhijeet panse and sung by Avdhoot Gupte and Anand Shinde.

Ek Tara is written by Gupte and Sachin Darekar. Darekar has also written screenplay and dialogues. Amalendu Chaudhari has done the cinematography. The star-cast of the film includes Santosh Juvekar, Tejaswini Pandit, Urmila Nimbalkar, Sagar Karande, Sunil Tawde, Mangesh Desai and Chaitanya Chandratre.

‘Rege’ and ‘Singham Returns’ come together for an event that’s a first in the glorious 100 year old history of Indian cinema. The producers of both the films which release on the same day – August 15th, addressed a joint press conference in a one if its kind gesture. Hindi films are often blamed for leaving a very small number of theatre screens for Marathi films. The producers of both these films have made it clear that this time they have divided the theatres amongst themselves in such a manner that both films will get screens in theatres that are most important for their respective film’s business.

The producer–director of ‘Rege’ – Abhijeet Panse, presenter Ravi Jadhav and Ashwini Darekar, Mahesh Majrekar who essays a major role in the film along with the producer-actor of ‘Singham Returns’ – Ajay Devgan and producer-director Rohit Shetty were present at the event.

‘Rege’ and ‘Singham Returns’ that release on the same day; is considered to be a very positive development. Hindi and Marathi films share a healthy competition. While piracy remains the biggest enemy of the business, it’s best that instead of fighting each other these two industries have put up a united stand. The producer–director of ‘Rege’ – Abhijeet Panse, presenter Ravi Jadhav and Ashwini Darekar and the producer-actor of ‘Singham Returns’ – Ajay devgn and producer-director Rohit Shetty addressed the media jointly while affirming, “That’s the primary reason why we decided to mutually distribute the most important theatres within our two films.” The teams of both films also wished each other good luck and a smashing success.

After the blockbuster success of ‘Timepass’ and ‘Balak-Palak’, ace director Ravi Jadhav is presenting ‘Rege’. Produced by Abhijit Panse and ARD Entertainment, it is set to hit theaters on 15th August across Maharashtra.

Veteren bollywood superstar Jeetendra was mighty impressed with Abhijit Panse’s directorial debut ‘Rege’ after he saw the film at a special screening at a suburban preview theater. “In spite of belonging to a genre which is done to death in Bollywood, ‘Rege’ which is the first Marathi movie to explore this theme has been successful to present the new facet of the subject. It is the most realistic film I have ever seen,’ said Jeetendra.

A special screening of ‘Rege’ was attended by many stalwarts from Hindi and Marathi film industry. Apart from Jeetendra, the screening saw the presense of one of the leading producers Ramesh Taurani, Sachin Pilgaonkar, Atul Kulkarni, Umesh Kulkarni, Sachin Kundalkar, Vikram Gaekwad, Chandrakant Kulkarni, Sanjay Jadhav, Ajinkya Deo, Ankush Chaudhari, Amruta Khanvilkar among others. Marathi film ‘Rege’ based on a recent notorious encounter, to be screened at 12th Pune Internaional Film Festival (PIFF) and 2nd Indian International film festival of South Africa (IIFFSA).

‘Rege’, Written and directed by Abhijit Panse, was lauded by critics and audiences in MAMI Festival, is believed to be based on a notorious fake encounter which has seen many encounter specialists from Mumbai police force going behind bars. Some of them have even been convicted by a Mumbai court in a recent ruling.

After dabbling many years in politics, Initially as the president of ‘Bhartiy Vidyarthi Sena’ and then as the president of ‘Bhartiya Chitrapat Sena’, Abhijit Panse has turned director with his ambitious project ‘Rege’. Panse says, “The film has all real life experiences. I have even used real names like Pradeep Sharma, Sachin Waze or D.K. to give the film much required authenticity.”

He further adds, “The ‘police-underworld nexus’ or ‘encounter’ genre has been done to death, especially in bollywood with films like ‘Satya’and ‘Company’. Though these films are considered realistic, they are not. They glorify and stylize characters and events which take away the realistic quotient considerably. Having been familiar with the working of police department as well as underworld, I can confidently claim that you have never witnessed as realistic film as ‘Rege’ on Indian screens as far as this genre is concerned.”

‘Rege’ stars Mahesh Manjrekar, Pushkar Shrotri, Santosh Juvekar, Aaroh Velankar and many others with a sound theatre background in pivotal roles. Cinematography is by Mahesh Limaye, while background score has been composed by ‘Saawariya’ fame Monty Sharma.

‘Rege’ will now not only be screened at PIFF and IIFFSA, but is competing in both the festivals. (PIFF- in the Marathi Films’Competition and IIFFSA – Overall Indian Competition). At PIFF, ‘Rege’ will lock horns with films like Fandry, Tapaal, Astu, Naarbachi Wadi. PIFF will take place in Pune from 9-16 January, 2014.

After PIFF ‘Rege’ flies to South Africa to compete in the prestigious IIFFSA; a multi-city event, scheduled to be held in Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg Jan 16-23, 2014.
