Now here’s a Marathi film maker Satish Vinayak Motling who is trying real hard to get the attention of iconic film maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali with his wannabe Marathi Film titled Priyatama. Satish not only tried to shoot his film like the way SLB does, But also went ahead and made similar looking Posters for his film. Yes! Priyatama’s poster draws huge resemblance with SLB’s Ram Leela’s poster.

When asked about these resemblances, Satish quoted to a leading publication “I loved the way SLB has presented his film. The chemistry between the lead pair, the colourful backdrop, it was all amazing. My love story will also be on similar lines. Girija Joshi will be the lead actor.” But the maverick film maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has yet not thought of giving any importance to Satish’s film or commenting on it. As they say, Bollywood knows to fire it’s shot on proper targets.

Priyatama tells the story of Parsha (Siddharth Jadhav) who belongs to a community commonly known as ‘Potraj’ in Maharashtra. They have a identity as messengers of Goddess Lakshmi. They supposed to devote their entire life for this service. This community don’t get settle at any one place. What happens when Parsha falls in love with Gauri (Girija Joshi) who belongs to a rich family? Sounds similar to (Late) Rajiv Patil’s award winning Jogwa? Even the trailer of Priyatama gives you the same feeling.

Priyatama is all set to hit the screens on February 14th where the makers will try to en-cash Valentine Day (At least, This is what the film’s Facebook page claimed indirectly). We wish Satish and his team all the luck.

Marathi actress Smita Gondkar seems pretty cool about her lifestyle nowadays. Recently while promoting her new Marathi film, Actress was not hesitant to comment about her personal life at all.

When the title was related to Smita’s personal life, The actress jokingly reacted and said “I think my life itself is turning into a Joke after the mess that happened. You will not believe, But i dream of Osama Bin Laden walking up to me and proposing me with a Flower. He also says that i am so much famous due to my married life, Why don’t i try a marriage with him too.”

Let me assure you that Majya Navryachi Baayko (MNB) which clearly means My Husband’s Wife is Leave-Your-Brains-At-Home kind of a Comedy which enthralls lots of twist and turns that follows in the Screenplay. The movie may or may not remind you of Anil Kapoor-Sridevi-Urmila Matondkar starrer Judaai, But again the story takes an unusual turn.

Bharat Jadhav is a simple ordinary married man to Deepali Sayed who is Honest and speaks Truth. The couple is leading a life that comes their way. One hitch! The wife dreams big. She visits a nonsense Holy Man who advises her to convince her husband to start speaking “Lies”. She convinces her husband and all hell break loose when some forced situations lead Bharat Jadhav to re-marry Smita Gondkar.

Another roller-coaster funny ride follows when Deepali Sayed does not believe his husband’s marriage with Smita Gondkar and thinks this one to be nothing but a “Lie”.

Performance wise, If you have enjoyed Bharat Jadhav in Shrimant Damodar Pant, I guarantee you that you will love him in this one too. He is simply outstanding. Deepali Sayed is good and provides a decent support as his wife. But it’s actually Hot Smita Gondkar who surprisingly walks away with the cake. Please note her in the climax scene for her tremendous acting skills. Talent such as Smita Gondkar should be seen on a regular basis in Marathi Cinema. Rest of the cast are good and plays their part well.

Ashok Kamle directs this one from his heart. The story and screenplay keeps you hooked to your seats. The camera work by Najeeb Khan is good and eye catching at the same time. The Editing drags in the second half. Music of the film is a let down, But the background score gels good with the Comical Timings.

Majya Navryachi Baayko (MNB) is a good comedy and your holiday treat which works strongly for some wonderful performances by Bharat Jadhav and Smita Gondkar. Don’t miss this one!

Popular actress Smita Gondkar who has done some appreciated work in Marathi and Bollywood cinema as well, Opens up about the Maharashtrian culture and it’s audiences and the changes in Marathi Cinema in the recent times.

With her latest released film ‘Premacha Jhol Jhal‘ with actor Siddharth Jadav that is running to packed houses and despite having a glamorous image in the industry, Smita agrees about certain changes in Marathi film industry, But assures that she cannot watch films such as Baalak Palak (BP), Touring Talkies, Delhi Belly with her family. “We Marathi people no matter how much we try to be westernize or modern, But deep down in our roots we are cultured and it hurts. Today’s generation may term films like Baalak Palak (BP), Touring Talkies, Delhi Belly as “Cool Films”, But the truth is one cannot watch such films with Family. I cannot watch them and also cannot be a part of them” said Smita.

The actress believes her Maharashtrian culture to be a sensitive one. She strongly underlined if someone who abuses in a joking way in Marathi is considered as an offense. “Not only Maharashtrian culture but every culture has it’s own sensitive roots. And if films such as Baalak Palak (BP), Touring Talkies are made, It somewhere triggers your roots and a certain discussion which you don’t want to discuss.” added Smita Gondkar.

Smita Gondkar is looking forward to her next release which is called ‘Gammat’ and has Sanjay Narvekar playing the male lead opposite her. She is also concentrating on her play which opens in December and is adapted by Amol Palekar after 40 years.

As per reported by a major tabloid, A notice from Rakesh Roshan’s production house Film Kraft has been sent to filmmaker Anup for making the film without acquiring the permission of the maker. While Rakesh Roshan claims that his production house is dealing with the legal notice. Anup Jagdale said “I don’t know who is spreading these baseless rumors and false speculations about my film Bharla Malwat Rakhtaana to be a remake of Khoon Bhari Maang. The only similarities both the films have is might be the title. My film is not a remake of Khoon Bhari Maang in any which ways. Like every other filmmaker, Even i have been inspired by some Hollywood Flicks before conceiving my film.”

Anup Jagdale further refused this to be a PR Generated news because no official PR has been appointed for the film as of yet. “I have personally replied to the Letter sent to me by Film Kraft Productions (Pvt) Ltd. And i am ready to show my film to the legendary Rakesh Roshan sir if he agrees as i respect him from the bottom of my heart.” added the maker.

Kishori Shahane Vij 3 A EditKishori Shahane Vij is not an unfamiliar name to Bollywood and Marathi film industry. Graduated from Mithibai College (Mumbai), She was crowned with the Miss Mithibai beauty pageant award. She entered into Marathi films and shot to fame with Maherchi Sadi and Wajva Re Wajva. Her stage performances in plays bought her recognition as a complete actress. She worked in Marathi blockbuster films like Ek Daav Dhobi Pachad, Atmavishwas and Navra Majha Navsacha. Deepak Balraj Vij, An ace Hindi filmmaker noticed her talent and gave her films such as Hafta Band (1991) and her Bollywood Journey started. She became popular with her performance in serials like Ghar Ek Mandir, Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin, and Sindoor.

She is also a classical and folk dancer who performed on stage in India and abroad. She also took part in the Mrs.Gladrags Beauty Peageant show and won Mrs.Gladrags Runner-up in 2003. Versatile
Kishori Shahane Vij goes in a heart-to-heart candid chat with Faisal Saif on her Career, Life and Romantic journey..

You were never a career-minded spirit?

I was very good academically as i came from a Middle Class Marathi family. But Acting was my Hobby from my childhood. Plus i had encouragement from my parents. During my 9th Std, I got a chance to perform a Folk Ballet called “Durga Zhaali Gauri”. I realized that my talent was emerging. Slowly, I moved on to do professional plays. After doing some good plays, I started getting offers for Films. I got picked up for my first ever Marathi film “Prem Karuya Khullam Khulla” along with Ashok Saraf as the leading man in it. And that’s how my career took a start.

How young you were while you got your first break?

I was in my 11th Std and it was very exciting and shocking for me because my both the leading men Ashok Saraf and (Late) Laxmikant Berde were stars in Marathi Cinema. But i was very firm back of my mind that i will not let  my education get ruined because of my career. I wanted to balance my Career and Education both in the same platform, And i successfully did that. With this thought, While i became a Commerce Graduate, I realized that i had done 20 Marathi Films!

And what about Hindi Films?

While doing Marathi Cinema, I did got offers from Hindi Films as well. But i did not had a proper connection with Hindi Film industry people. When i was in my 16 years, Bollywood started recognizing my Talent. But it was my husband Deepak Balraaj Vij who gave me my first break in Hafta Bandh (1991). I did a very strong and supporting role in the movie, But my Marathi Film industry people were very curious about why i was not doing leading roles in Hindi Films! I had a Mind Set that i would only do leading roles in Marathi Films and will do strong supporting roles in Hindi. I was never very ambitious to play a Lead in Hindi Films for the most important reason that Hindi Cinema was too crowded and i was scared that i will get lost in the crowd.

You never spoke much about your Romance with Deepak Balraaj Vij, When did that started?

We became good friends during the making of Hafta Bandh. I was very much involved with my work as i was working from a young age. When i entered Hindi Films, Some of my Marathi Films were left behind. That’s how i got some extra time for “Love”. (Laughs). Me and Deepakji used to meet in our respective extra time during Rehearsals, Photo-shoots, Story-sittings etc. That was the time when our romance got developed.

Did he ever thought of gifting you a Bouquet walking down at any of your Film’s shoot?

Kishori Shahane Vij and Deepak Balraaj Vij 2 Edit
(Laughs). No ways! Our love affair was very “Hidden” one. In fact, You won’t believe i used to go on dating with him wearing a “Burkha”. Because i was a Famous Marathi actress and to avoid every eye, I asked my designer to design a Burkha for me. So whenever me and Deepakji went to a Restaurant or less public area, I used to remove that Burkha. I even used to wear that Burkha while i used to go for my Graduation’s final examinations.

And what was your Family Reaction? Was it very ‘Filmy’?

My Parents were the good support all my life. They always stood beside me for all the advices. Deepakji is a Punjabi and my parents always made me aware that i will be facing a new culture altogether and i have to be ready for it. A proper cordial meeting started in between my family and Deepakji’s family. A cultural exchange started taking place. My father was always worried if my Talent would be killed after i get married? It was Deepakji who assured my Dad that nothing of that sort will happen and she can continue with her acting always. And me too was having a simple pattern of life that at the age of 15-16 i will concentrate on my career, At the age of 22-23 i will get married and settle down and after that i will again start working. With god’s blessings, Everything went exactly as i planned and i am happy for it.

And what was life after you got Married? You also took a 4 year gap to make a come-back..

After marriage i almost took a 3 year gap. But by that time, I had done almost 40 to 50 films. While i was getting married i was very satisfied as i had done a huge amount of work. I donated all my “Wigs” and “Make Up Kits” to my Make up designers and my staff hoping that i may never come back. And after 3 years, It was my “In Laws” who encouraged me again to not to waste my talent at home. I started my acting career again in T.V.Serials with the support of my Father-In-Law and my husband.

T.V.Serials? And Films?

You see that time my son was growing. His nursery, His academic work etc. I had to refuse many Marathi films because that were all shot outdoor. And i couldn’t afford to take an outdoor risk especially if i have to be attentive towards my Family, Home and my growing Son. I also started helping my husband in managing his productions.

What would be your kind of Fashion statement?

According to me wear what suits you the best. Because what i like to wear is Free Clothing. In my regular lifestyle, I wear Comfortable clothes like my Jeans and my Kurti etc.

Huff It's Too Much 1Cast: Pushkar Jog, Armeena Khan

Directed by: Pushkar Jog

Review by: Faisal Saif

Ratings:  *

What would you call a film which draws so many inspirations from other Hollywood and Bollywood Rom-Coms and still looks as a confused and paranoid film just like the female lead character from this film? Here comes a Yet-Another frustrated crappy version of many Hollywood-Bollywood films in the form of Huff It’s Too Much.

First of all, The film tells a story about a couple in their 25 years of age living in London. Please take a look at the lead actor Pushkar Jog. Do you really think he looks like a 25 years old? Especially with his eye-wrinkles and double chinned face which cannot be avoided in the film’s poster itself? Some news papers and tabloid claimed “Famous Marathi actor Pushkar Jog debuts through this Film” in their respective headers  (PR generated stories, Of course). Famous Marathi actor? Really? If Pushkar Jog is considered as a Famous Actor, What would you call stars like Bharat Jaadhav, Subodh Bhave, Ankush Chowdhary etc?

As far as Debut is concerned, Pushkar Jog has already debuted in a very less remembered multi-cast “Flop” film called “E.M.I Liya Hai Toh Chukana Padega” (2008). Back home in Marathi Cinema, He has done some B Grade films which sank without a trace. He produces his own films and his debut Marathi (Self-Produced) film ‘Zabardast’ was directed by ace director Mahesh Kothare. Some insiders also claimed about the actor having a well-dressed staff accompanying him and wearing “Pushkar Jog Staff” name batch. Marathi cinema’s Kamaal R Khan? Oops! No offense to anyone. Sorry please.

Huff It’s Too Much is a romantic-comedy revolving around a creative director, his quirky best friend and a woman that he is confused about. The film is an all and out youth centric romantic-comedy set in London dealing with the tryst and tribulation of young ‘Desis’ staying abroad.

Another plot about Indians who live abroad and confused about their lifestyles and livings. Such plot, If treated in a right format can do really wonders. But it looks as if the people behind the scenes were only interested in shooting the film rather concentrating on the storyline.

The first half of the the film is just tolerable. But it’s the second half which tortures you to the core.

As i speak about the performances, Pushkar Jog really doesn’t know to act in a “Hindi” film, Despite starting his career as a Child Actor. Acting in a Marathi Film is different. The Body language, The Accent, The Style etc. But performing in a Hindi Film is another ball game. The Sarcasm comedy slang that he used in this one looks like a (Late) Laxmikant Berde Marathi style. Armeena Khan, Yet-Another Pakistani Actress/Model debuts through this film. She is strictly okay. Yes, Like every other Pakistani actress, She too has an Expression less face which somehow worked for this film. Why? Because the camera was mostly capturing the one and only Pushkar Jog. Rest of the actors were nothing to talk about.

Music of the film is okay, But because of it’s less promotions, I don’t think they will be remembered much. The Editing is bad. The camera work is good. Production values are nothing new to talk about because the film has been shot in London, And trust me, No one showed London as beautiful and erotic as (Late) Yash Chopra used to show.

Why Pushkar Jog directed this film? Why this film was made in Hindi? Why does Pushkar Jog’s smile reminds you of iconic Marathi director Mahesh Kothare? These are some of my questions which still remained unanswered.

If you have a strong and a personal grudge with a person, Show him/her Huff It’s Too Much at least once. Huff It’s Too Much is a Pushkar Jog style Torture!

Bharla Marwat Raktaana 1 SmallSince the “Remaking” trend is at it’s peak in Bollywood, Why must Marathi Film industry left behind? Remakes of southern films are working wonders in Bollywood. Many A-list actors such as Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn seem to prefer remakes of popular south films as they have proved to be successful in Bollywood too.

Debutant director Anup Jagdale is all set to make his first debut Marathi feature film titled “Bharla Malwat Rakhtaana”. Insiders claimed the film to be an Official remake of Rekha starrer 1998 cult hit Khoon Bhari Maang which was about a wealthy widow who is almost killed by her lover and sets out for revenge. The film was a comeback venture for Rekha in that year and was a critical and commercial success. It was said when Rakesh Roshan started shooting this film, Many close friends warned him about the project being Risky as it had no commercial ‘Hero-Angle’ in the film.

“My film is about a woman who is cheated and betrayed and she is almost killed only to bounce back for a Brutal Revenge rampage Marathi Cinema will ever see. I will not speak further about the film as i want the audience to enjoy my final product.” said first timer Anup Jagdale. The casting of the film is also kept under-wraps, However it is confirmed that acclaimed Marathi actor Milind Shinde will enact the character of Shatrughan Sinha.

The Trade and the Media is curious to know about the actress playing the role of Rekha. Few names such as Sai Tamhankar and Sonalee Kulkarni bumped in, But director Anup Jagdale remained lip-tight about the actress.

The poster of the film also carries just the name of the film along with main credits. The shoot of the film is going on at the locales of Maharshtra and the film is all set to release on 1st December 2013.
