Tannishtha Chatterjee is one of the most prolific & respected parallel cinema actresses in India. And not just that she has been a part of a number of international films including this year’s Oscar nominated ‘Lion’. Though she had previously worked in a Marathi film called ‘Sunrise’, but the film didn’t release officially in India. Hence in a way her first recognizable performance in Marathi would turn out to be Anant Mahadevan’s directorial ‘Doctor Rakhmabai’.
The teaser is out & it’s simply brilliant. After ‘Harishchandrachi Factory’, ‘Dr Rakhmabai’ seems to be the essential period film in Marathi that has an important story to tell, the story of ‘Doctor Rakhmabai’, India’s first female doctor who practiced in India. The obstacles she faced & her journey towards getting education & using it for the welfare of our country are aptly reflected even in this 1 minute teaser. The film also stars Marathi actors Prasad Oak, Santosh Juvekar, Kavita Lad & Bharat Dabholkar.
Technically the film looks sublime & the whole period seems to be perfectly created. One of AnantMahadevan’s previous Marathi film was also a biopic of a very important woman, ‘SindhutaiSakpal’. Hence we can say that this film is in right hands & we can truly experience a thought provoking film about a real life heroine of India!
