Zee Yuva’s Sangeet Samrat season was hugely loved by the viewers and now it is all set to make a comeback with season 2. The show has undergone some new changes and will appear in a completely new avatar. The show will welcome talents from all over Maharashtra to come and display their musical skills on stage.

One of the major changes in this year’s show format is the introduction of Captains. The captains will be none other than the mentors who will help the contestants grow ahead in the competition. The first episode will highlight the basic selection process of the participants and division of the teams. The captains get to choose who they wish to keep on their team. An introduction to the entirely new concept is what will be the main focus of the initial episodes.

With judges like Adarsh Shinde and Rahul Deshpande, the contestants are definitely under safe hands. A nationwide hunt to scout for Maharashtra’s most talented musicians and singers began earlier this month across 6 cities namely – Kolhapur, Aurangabad, Pune, Mumbai, Nashik and Nagpur. To groom and hone the talent this year, our four mentors Juilee Joglekar, Abhijeet Kosambi, Rahul Saxena and Savaniee Ravindrra will play an important role. This season promises the viewers a bag full of surprises, watch Sangeet Samrat Season 2 starting from 13th June from Wednesday to Friday at 9:30 PM only on Zee Yuva!

Sangeet Sanshaykallol, a milestone in Marathi theatre will be revived on the stage by Prashant Damle Fan Foundation in a new avatar. Prashant Damle and Rahul Deshpande will be recreating magic of this 100 year old play with their mesmerizing singing.

The Muhurat of this play was performed at Chief Minister’s residence. Actors and technicians from the play as well as dignitaries like Amruta  Fadnavis, Prashant Damle, Rahul Deshpande, Ramdas Kamat, Gauri Damle were present for this occasion.

Sangeet Sanshaykallol created a history with its musical brilliance. The songs from the original play are still listened by the Marathi audience. The play is directed by Nipun Dharmadhikari. Prashant Damle (Falgunrao), Rahul Deshpande (Ashwin Sheth), Uma Palsule Desai (Revati), Dipti Mate( Krutika), Chinmay Pataskar (Sadhu and Vaishakh), Nachiket Jog (Bhaadhavyaa), Neeta Pendse (Rohini and Magha) are playing pivotal roles.

The original play has more than thirty songs, but in the new avatar the play will feature 18 songs. The stage tour of this play will start on 15 April.

Sachin started his journey in the film industry as a child artiste, after doing many roles in Hindi and Marathi, he became director and producer. His movies became milestones in Marathi industry and box office was always favourable to him. His latest role as Khansaheb in Subodh BHave’s Katyar Kaljat Ghusali has already made audience very curious!

Why is this film so important to you?

This is a classic role. Vasantrao Deshpande has taken this role to another level with his performance. Though I do not wish to get compared with him, I was a bit skeptical about this role. I have never played a Muslim classical singer previously. Subodh was very insistent that I will be able to do justice to this role. I did a screen-test with costumes and makeup which made me more confident.

How did you prepare for the role of Khansaheb?

My look was designed by ace make-up artiste Vikram Gaikwad. Judging by the audience reactions of promo, we will say this has really paid off. The results are fantastic. The look is very elegant, authentic andtrue to the core of this character. Though I am a director, I left myself totally under the baton of Subodh. His vision will be different from me, I trusted his vision and his instincts.  I had seen the original play six to seven times, and I have personally met Vasantrao Deshpande. He has sung for some of my films as playback singer, however, I never thought that time about performing this same role.

You are a singer too. But you have not sung for this film?

A person should know his weaknesses and I don’t know classical music,  so I left the singing to the original Khansaheb,  Vasantrao Deshpande’s grandson Rahul Deshpande. He has sung nine songs in the film composed by Shankar  Mahadevan. Shankar has done role of Panditji and as he is a fabulous singer, he has sung all his own songs. However, I have been given a playback and it is the correct way.

Any memorable incidents while shooting for the film?

There are many! Film like this not only looks grand on the screen, but making is also filled with little anecdote.
Shankar and me are ardent foodies. On the sets, we used to keep ordering from various restaurants and always exchanged information about which cuisines and restaurants are worth trying. It was also good to work with good artistes like Amruta Khanvilkar and Saakshi Tanwar.

How happy are you with this film?

I am very happy because I have played a character with a negative shade for the first time. Very few people know my passion about Urdu. This film gave me a chance to speak Urdu throughout this film as my character hails from Bareilly. I have learnt Urdu many years back and my wife and daughter used to make fun of me whenever I speak Urdu. But see, all that practice has come handy for this film!

Katyar Kaljat Ghusali– a film directed by Subodh Bhave has already been in the news for its awesome music. Soor Niragas Ho by Shankar Mahadevan and Dil KI tapish by Rahul Deshpande are already becoming popular among audience. The complete album of 20 songs for this film was launched recently in a grand event. The entire cast and crew of the film was present for this music launch ceremony.

Katyar Kaljat Ghusli has been a mile-stone for Marathi theatre. The play was written by Purushottam Darvekar and its immortal music was composed by Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki. Actor-director Subodh Bhave has turned this play into a feature film. The film stars Sachin, Amruta Khanvilkar, Subodh Bhave, Sakshi Tanvar, Mrunmayee Deshpande and Shankar Mahadevan in leading roles.

Subodh Bhave said on this occasion, “Though this film is based on the play, this is a new approach and should not be compared to the original. Along with the songs from the play, the film also has some new songs. I am sure people will love these songs equally”

Shankar Mahadevan commented that he is emotionally involved in this project due to its music. “I have always been passionate about Marathi Sangeet natak. It was a challenge for me to compose music for this film, which will be having songs composed by Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki as well. The soul of these songs is spirituality of classical music. Maintaining that spirituality throughout the film was a herculean task for us.”

Ehsaan Noorani, another composer for the music has expressed that even today’s generation will love this Indian Classical music. “This is our first film where we have composed classical music. Our love and passion for classical music has made us to work really hard on this project.”

The album features twenty songs and singers include eminent names like Mahesh Kale- disciple of Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki, Bollywood singers Arijit Singh, Divya Kumar, Sawani Shende. Highlight of the album are the voices of Rahul Deshpande- grandson of Pandit Vasantrao Deshpande and renowned classical singer and Shankar Mahadevan. The lyrics of this film have been penned by Prakash Kapadiya, Sameer Samant, Mangesh Kangne, and Mandar Cholkar.
The film will release on 12 November all over Maharashtra.

We have already told you how much we are excited by Subodh Bhave’s “Katyar Kaljat Ghusali”. The new song released by this film on social media has taken this excitement to another level altogether.

Dil Ki Tapish features Sachin Pilgaonkar as Khan Saheb. The song is picturized in a darbar on Sachin singing in front of the royal audience. What are we excited about this time? Rahul Deshpande. We have seen him acting as a Khansaheb in a recently revived play on TV where he excelled in singing and acting. Here we can hear him as a playback singer. His clearcut voice, excellent command over the raag and expressions has made this song as a gem. The music given by Shankar Ehsan Loy stays true to the soul of the song and keeps the freshness of classical music as it is.

The trailer also features sweet smiling Shankar appreciating the song in the darbar. Sachin as Khansaheb has lots of different shades to his role, his simplicity and understanding of the classical music makes him more believable as a classical singer.

The film will release in Diwali and we are sure that it will lighten up our Diwali with this melodious and beautiful music.

“Bhai Kotwal”, a film based on a freedom fighter has released a ringtone for of its song even before the shooting. This new marketing exercise will help to get connected with the film, said the director F. M. Ilyas.

This song has been written by Ibrahim Afghan and composed by veteran music director Amar Mohile. The two stalwarts in the classical music, Rahul Deshpande and Devki Pandit has lend their voices to this devotional song. The ringtone is made by Hungama.com and has become popular among new generation.

Jayesh Chavan, head of Hungama.com said, “This is first time we are releaseing a song as a ringtone, ever before the shooting. Even Hindi insustry has never done such marketing technique. However, we are hoping that it will be used in near future as a strategy.”

Bhai Kotwal is a film based on a freedom fighter who fought bravely against British government at Matheran. The producers are Shashikant Chavan from Veer Kotwal Foundation. Screenplay by F. M. Ilyas and Ibrahim Afghan and music by Amar Mohile. Director of the photography Najeeb Khan.
