Anand (Mihir Rajda) & Soumitra (Adwait Dadarkar) are friends of Guru-Radhika in Zee Marathi’s popular serial ‘Majhya Navryachi Bayko’. The natural chemistry between Anand & Soumitra is very much evident in the serial. That is because they are best friends in real life! Even professionally they have been working together from their college days!

They have worked together as writer & director together from their college days to their commercial Marathi plays like ‘Tya Tighanchi Goshta’ & ‘Don’t Worry Be Happy’. Adwait Dadarkar is the director between the two while Mihir Rajda is the writer! And obviously both of them are actors too!

The interesting fact is that the very first episode when Soumitra (Adwait) entered ‘Majhya Navryachi Bayko’ & had scenes with Anand (Mihir) the tv rating of ‘Majhya Navryachi Bayko’ broke all records! It was this serial’s highest rating ever around 8.7! This could be the magic of their real friendship which has also translated into reel friendship now!

Review:

Post Guru, Mumbai Time is another film that seems to have been strongly influenced by the loud cinema from the South.

Mumbai Time is a gangster film that shows how a young man from a lower middle class background gets caught in the world of crime and then traces his journey there. We have seen many such films in Hindi and also in Marathi like the recent Dagadi Chawl. This film is no different than the ones that have already released. These kinds of gangster films are dime a dozen.

Amar Surve (Umesh Kamat) has an issue with a villain in a South Indian gang who’s head honcho played by Deepak Shirke. Amar has to go through the entire hierarchy to exact his revenge. He cannot directly take revenge. There is also another Muslim Gang whose leader is played by Ramesh Bhatkar. Mahesh Manjrekar plays the role of an ACP who is only shown playing chess most of the time.

The film starts on a loud note and bizarrely that loudness is maintained right throughout. The film somehow has very few scenes which are at a low pitch and this works against the film. The drama unfolding on screen loses its impact. Umesh Kamat is an interesting casting as we have seldom seen him in such roles; his performance is one of the better parts of the film. Apart from him all other actors are theatrical or over the top. This results in the film becoming very loud. Marathi films of the recent past seem to have borrowed this over the top story telling from their southern counterparts. Guru clearly had an influence of Telugu and Tamil commercial potboilers. Mumbai Time too seems to be influenced by cinema from the South.

Another negative aspect of the film is that it is predictable. Nearly every point in the story can be guessed from a distance.

Overall:

A loud and predictable gangster film that has nothing new in it.

Zee Marathi has geared up for launch of new serial, Maze Pati Saubhagyawati, with a unique concept which has already created huge buzz and curiosity in the viewers. We spoke to the multi-talented actor Vaibhav Mangle about his new role. Here is what Vaibhav told us ex-tempore.

What is the tele-scenario of the show?

It is said that to understand a woman one needs to step into her shoes. Maze Pati Saubhagyawati is a story about a man who realizes the worth of a woman when he himself has to essay the role of one. Vaibhav is a struggling actor who came to Mumbai 14 years ago along with his wife Lakshmi and dreams of becoming a successful actor. But unfortunately Vaibhav and Lakshmi have not been able to accomplish their dreams and are still where they started from. However, after a series of rejections, Vaibhav has reached a stage where his belief in himself has slowly begun to crumble. He’s got one last chance to give himself and Lakshmi a better life. A role, if he performs well, will not only start his career but also change his perspective of looking at life. But, call this his fortune, or add it to list of despairs, the role is such that he cannot disclose it to anyone. It’s the role of female lead in a show.

Does this change your character in any way?

Yes. In the process, Vaibhav who is a chauvinistic husband and has always took his wife for granted starts realizing her worth. He starts to realize experiences the struggles of a woman, her pain, her happiness and her aspirations making him empathize with his wife more.

What are the other credits of the show?

This intriguing drama is produced by Teamwork Ultra creations banner, and directed by Mandar Devsthali, who has given extremely popular serials like Honar Sunn Mi Hya Gharachi to the audience. Stage and film actress Nandita Dhuri will be playing my wife’s role. She is an extremely talented actress. Ashok Shinde and Ramesh Bhatkar will be also seen in the supporting roles.

How did you prepare yourself for the role?

I have played such characters earlier in shows like ‘FU BAI FU’ and other plays and I could easily get into the character and since I had earlier worked with Ramesh Bhatkar and Ashok Shinde, Uday Sabnis, Ajit Kelkar, it was easier for me to essay the character.

The story of this serial revolves around Vaibhav Malvankar, a struggling actor.
