Prashant Damle has been very busy with theatre and TV shows. However, he is back with a bang in his upcoming Bho Bho as a detective. The film will be releasing on 22 April and the trailer of this film was released recently.

As the title of the film suggests, the film revolves around a dog and a detective who is in search of this dog. Prashant Damle will be seen as genius Venkatesh Bhonde who can solve any crime. This Bharat Gaikwad directed film has all the right ingredients and stars to make a light hearted crime drama with a twist of mystery.

The film also stars Subodh Bhave, Sanjay Mone, Sharad Ponkshe, Ashwini Ekbote, Saurabh Gokhale, Anuja Sathe, Kishor Chaugule, Ketaki Chitale et al.

Bho Bho, a murder mystery revolving around a dog has been getting warm appreciations in various film festivals. The recently concluded Kalyan International Film Festival on 21 February awarded Prashant Damle as Best Actor for his role in this film.

Prashan Damle said, “I accepted this challenging role because I liked the central part of the film. I am really happy to see to receive an award for this film”.

The film has been presented by Smukhesh Films and directed by Bharat Gaikwad. Prashant Damle will be seen in a completely new avatar for this film. Along with Damle, the film also stars Subodh Bhave, Sharad Ponkshe, Ashvini Ekbote, Sanjay Mone, Kishor Chaugule, Saurabh Gokhle and Anuja Sathe.

Review:

Post Guru, Mumbai Time is another film that seems to have been strongly influenced by the loud cinema from the South.

Mumbai Time is a gangster film that shows how a young man from a lower middle class background gets caught in the world of crime and then traces his journey there. We have seen many such films in Hindi and also in Marathi like the recent Dagadi Chawl. This film is no different than the ones that have already released. These kinds of gangster films are dime a dozen.

Amar Surve (Umesh Kamat) has an issue with a villain in a South Indian gang who’s head honcho played by Deepak Shirke. Amar has to go through the entire hierarchy to exact his revenge. He cannot directly take revenge. There is also another Muslim Gang whose leader is played by Ramesh Bhatkar. Mahesh Manjrekar plays the role of an ACP who is only shown playing chess most of the time.

The film starts on a loud note and bizarrely that loudness is maintained right throughout. The film somehow has very few scenes which are at a low pitch and this works against the film. The drama unfolding on screen loses its impact. Umesh Kamat is an interesting casting as we have seldom seen him in such roles; his performance is one of the better parts of the film. Apart from him all other actors are theatrical or over the top. This results in the film becoming very loud. Marathi films of the recent past seem to have borrowed this over the top story telling from their southern counterparts. Guru clearly had an influence of Telugu and Tamil commercial potboilers. Mumbai Time too seems to be influenced by cinema from the South.

Another negative aspect of the film is that it is predictable. Nearly every point in the story can be guessed from a distance.

Overall:

A loud and predictable gangster film that has nothing new in it.

Review:

The police are undoubtedly one of the most overworked public servants in the state. They do not have any fixed duty hours; they are underpaid; and the housing colonies in which they live are crumbling structures. Police Line (a term used for colonies that house police) directed by Raju Parsekar attempts throws some light on the issues faced by the constables of the police.

The screenplay here just peeks into the life of a number of character living in a housing colony of the police and tries to portray all their trials and tribulations. It lacks any sort of a plot. Though a lack of plot isn’t necessarily a recipe for disaster, but the characters here are poorly sketched and a little too many for our liking. Throughout the whole first half we are just introduced to these characters and almost nothing significant of any sort happens in the film. The first half is a serious test of our patience. The proceedings are so drab that I was finding difficult to not doze off. The treatment is very marathi tv like, full of melodrama and very poor acting.

There isn’t exactly a lead character here, but Bala played by Santosh Juvekar has been given the most screen time. He is the son of a retired police constable who is an upright gentleman, proud of the honesty with which he has performed his duty of a policeman. His married elder son, who has also joined the police, doesn’t believe in his father’s ideals and blames them for his family’s misery. Bala is a studious young man who plans to become a software engineer.

There are a number of other such families living in the same housing colony that the film sheds light on, but not even a single one of their stories holds our attention. The filmmaking is very outdated and bland. The setting is based in the 90s for the most part and it also feels that the film too was made in the 90s. There are numerous cringe-worthy scenes that had me squirming in my seat. Another aspect that works completely against the film is the preachy tone. Right from the voice over in the beginning the preaching begins and doesn’t end till the end credits stop rolling. Some characters just go on and on about the miseries of a police constable.

In a well-intentioned film like Police Line, I always make that extra effort to find something positive. But, unfortunately, apart from the noble intentions I couldn’t find anything even remotely worthy of any praise. The policemen, much like the policies of the government, have here been given a raw deal; they deserved hell of a lot better.

Overall:

A well-intentioned film, but drab and preachy.

Well known actor Makrand Anaspure is playing the central character named Jagannath in the film while Priyanka Yadav is the leading lady in the film. Presented by Paras Movies, The film is the story of an artist named Jagannath who likes to live life on his own terms.
