Many artists from the Hindi film industry & music industry are being seen in Marathi these days. The latest addition to this list of artists is the acclaimed singer Javed Ali, who has worked with every great music composer from A.R. Rehman to Pritam!

His new song in Marathi is titled ‘Shona Re’ & is part of the upcoming romance drama ‘Whatsapp Love‘ starring Raqesh Bapat and Anuja Sathe Gokhale in the lead. The film hits theatres on 5th of April & is produced & directed by Hemantkumar Mahale.

The video of the song was recently posted online & it looks stunning & presents the hero of the film Raqesh Bapat in a beautiful avatar. The lyrics of this song are penned by Ajita Kale while the music composer of the song is Nitin Shankar. Javed Ali’s voice truly adds soul to this song & makes it memorable.

Youth Marathi Movie Review:

Ask any budding filmmaker and he won’t hesitate to tell you that to find a producer for a film is one hell of a task. And to get it to release is an equally difficult task. Some films are so amateurishly made at nearly all levels, that you wonder that how they got made and even released in the first place; Youth is that kind of a film. It is a rather poorly made film, but you cannot discount the noble intentions.

The film tries to throw some light on the drought situation in the state.A group of mostly privileged college kids plan a trip to a beach side resort in their vacations. Yuvraj, our protagonist, and also the wealthiest guy in the group is the son of a state minister. During their trip, the wealthy urban kids accidently encounter the drought situation in first person. Having only seen the drought condition from the comfort of their homes on the tv, they are all deeply disturbed by the massive disparity. The conscience of Yuvraj awakens and he decides to do all he can to help the impoverished and troubled villagers. The rest of the gang also joins Yuvraj in his effort. Their work gains popularity and also media attention. This has repercussions on the politics of the state and affects Yuvraj’s father directly. Youth then has a major twist in the plot.

Youth does have noble intentions of putting into focus the plight of the drought stricken rural Indians and the measures that can be taken to avoid recurrence of the drought. But the film goes about doing this in a rather preachy manner. There is a lot of talk in the film. Andto make it worse the acting is uniformly poor by the main actors apart from Vikram Gokhale and Satish Pulekar. It is also a poorly made film. The staging of the scenes is so poor that very few even hold your attention.Despite the director also editing the film, the film isn’t sharp as expected. After the film ends you do get a feeling that disservice has been done to such a serious and relevant subject.

Overall:

The film does disservice to a serious subject like drought, with its bad filmmaking and poor acting.

Youth, a film about today’s generation will be releasing on 3 June all over Maharashtra. This is a story of six friends whose lives are changed by an unexpected twist.

The film is produced by Sethu Raghavan. The story and screenplay is written by Vishal Chavan and Yugg. The songs of this film have been sung by Chinmay Holalkar, Shalmali Kholgade, Swanand Kirkire, Javed Jaffrey, Armaan Malik. The music has been composed by Vishal Jagdish.

The DoP is Chetan Shinde. Choreography is done by Phulwa Khamkar. Art Direction is by Devji Sakpal. Costume Designing is by Bhagyashree, Ashwin and Mihir.

Youth, a new film by Rakesh Kundalkar is ready for the release on 20th May. The film stars Vikram Gokhale, Akshay Waghmare, Neha Mahajan. Akshay Mhatre, Meera Joshi, Shashank Jadhav, Ketaki Narayan and Satish Pulekar.

The film deals with the water crisis in rural Maharashtra and how a group of urban youth tries to aid in this time of draught. However, the group does not understand the local dynamics of the politics and faces many threats during this social work. The film has a very serious tone and speaks about the actual changes done by the youth of this generation.

The film has been produced by Sundar Sethuraman. Story-screenplay and dialogues are penned by Vishal & Yuugg. The DoP is Chetan Shinde. The film will be releasing on 3rd June all over Maharashtra.

Prem Kahani Review:

Some films find it difficult justify their existence. They are so bad that you wonder what the people behind the film were even thinking while making this film. Prem Kahani is one such film.

It is a story of reincarnation – a done to death subject. We have had reincarnation stories as long as one can remember. Prem Kahani does not attempt to do anything new with it. The sole purpose of the film seems to be launching of Kajal Sharma who plays the lead role of Sonal – a college going girl getting strange hallucinations. But, to our misfortune, Kajal Sharma is a terrible actor to put it mildly. And it does not help that the director is hell bent of taking close ups of her. The camera instead of trying to cover up for her obvious lack of acting talent is happy with her expressionless face occupying the entire frame.

The love story in the ‘Prem Kahani’ does not begin before the second half. Kajal who is obsessed with Rajasthani folk art seems to have some uncanny connection with the state. Her doctor advises her to go on a trip to unwind her mind. And, rather predictably, she and her friends choose to go to Rajasthan and that is where the love story unfolds on screen in flashbacks.

The film is riddled with clichés all over. The staging of the scenes is amateurish, not to mention unintentionally hilarious at times. Despite the second half being entirely set in a scenic locale like Rajasthan, you have to make an effort to focus on the film. At some points the film gets so unbearable that you have an urge to pull out your hair. The desperate attempt to put some horror element in the film with ear deafening music makes you feel like walking out of the film.

Overall:

An unbearable film which finds it difficult to justify its own existence.
