Quick Viewpoint: ‘Pandu’ gives a refreshing look at the life of Mumbai police in a very light-hearted, easy going, private way. However without any warning it also shows us how their life is still at risk and in no time a disaster can take place.

What Works?

• Many a times when we see a Marathi police officer or a constable in a Hindi film or series, we are more likely seeing a stereotyped version of reality! In ‘Pandu’ that isn’t the case! The series first & foremost looks at the central character and the rest of the police surrounding him as simply humans. Humans who are imperfect, yet sensitive and have a practical conscience and not the heroic conscience that we see in the cops played by Bollywood stars!
• Suhas Shirsat and senior actor Deepak Shirke are both perfectly casted in their parts and they have truly given memorable performances. For Shirsat especially this could be a career changing moment!
• The private-family life of the central character is equally important in the series as his life as a cop and also to highlight the fact that the cops too are just the same average common man who has day to day little battles to fight!
• The blend of lifelike subtle humour and an existential crisis faced by the lead character makes the series stand out from various streaming content on different platforms.

What Fails?

• The first three episodes when compared to the last three feel lacking of substance, even though the characters are instantly relatable.
• The series was obviously made on a minimal budget and unfortunately it sometimes is visible in couple of scenes and becomes a distraction and a deviation from the plot of the series.

Final Verdict: Sarang Sathaye and his team at ‘Bharatiya Digital Party’ are true pioneers in the world of Marathi web content and with ‘Pandu’ they take it forward and inspire other creators in Marathi to take risks and bring out their own content out!

The music has been composed by Ajay Atul. The album contains various songs like item song, romantic duets and sad songs. The lyrics have been penned by Santosh Katkade. The film stars Deepak Shirke, Arun Geete, Sunil Godbole, Vikrant Thakare, Pratik Chandvadkar, Dnyaneshwar Wagh and Pooja Raj. The film is directed by Sai Anand.

Review:

Post Guru, Mumbai Time is another film that seems to have been strongly influenced by the loud cinema from the South.

Mumbai Time is a gangster film that shows how a young man from a lower middle class background gets caught in the world of crime and then traces his journey there. We have seen many such films in Hindi and also in Marathi like the recent Dagadi Chawl. This film is no different than the ones that have already released. These kinds of gangster films are dime a dozen.

Amar Surve (Umesh Kamat) has an issue with a villain in a South Indian gang who’s head honcho played by Deepak Shirke. Amar has to go through the entire hierarchy to exact his revenge. He cannot directly take revenge. There is also another Muslim Gang whose leader is played by Ramesh Bhatkar. Mahesh Manjrekar plays the role of an ACP who is only shown playing chess most of the time.

The film starts on a loud note and bizarrely that loudness is maintained right throughout. The film somehow has very few scenes which are at a low pitch and this works against the film. The drama unfolding on screen loses its impact. Umesh Kamat is an interesting casting as we have seldom seen him in such roles; his performance is one of the better parts of the film. Apart from him all other actors are theatrical or over the top. This results in the film becoming very loud. Marathi films of the recent past seem to have borrowed this over the top story telling from their southern counterparts. Guru clearly had an influence of Telugu and Tamil commercial potboilers. Mumbai Time too seems to be influenced by cinema from the South.

Another negative aspect of the film is that it is predictable. Nearly every point in the story can be guessed from a distance.

Overall:

A loud and predictable gangster film that has nothing new in it.

A student of law from Sinhgad College in Pune, Ishwari will be seen in a lead role in this Sunil Chauthmal directed love-story. Music Release Function of Sagar Bangera Production’s KUNI GHAR DETA KA GHAR starring Bharat Jadhav  and Kranti Redkar was held at Hotel Rangsharda, Bandra last evening. Vetaran’s from the Industry Viju Khote, Deepak Shirke, Kishore Pradhan, Shubhangi Latkar, were present with Producer Hemant Bangera. Directed Rajesh Deshpande was seen mingling with singers Prajakta Shukra, Neha Rajpal and Urmila Dangar and Music Director Rohan. MLA Vijay Shivtare did the honours of releasing the Music.

Leading Lady of the film Kranti Redkar stole the limelight.Her co-star Bharat Jadhav could not make it to the event. On the occasion of the music release of the Kuni Ghar Deta ka Ghar Director Rajesh Deshpande said “I am thrilled for the film and the music has turned out really well. I wanted a very youthful and energetic scores and Rohan has done the work more than my expectations.”

The film is being produced by Hemant Bangera under the banner of Sagar Bangera Production and co-produced by Sheela Mangesh Jagtap of Sheela Films. Kuni Ghar Deta ka Ghar is slated to release on 28th June 2013.

Along with Bharat Jadhav and Kranti Redkar in the lead the film also stars Reema Lagoo, Deepak Shirke, Viju Khote, Kuldeep Pawar, Vijay Chavan, Jaywant Wadkar, Kamlakar Satpute, Digambar Naik, Savita Malpekar, Kishor Pradhan, Shobha Pradhan,Varsha Tandle, Shubhangi Latkar, Vimal Mhatre, Suhas Palishkar, Chhaya Kadam and Shailesh Pithambre.
