व्ह्यूपॉइंट: ‘अश्लील उद्योग मित्रमंडळ’ या नावावर जाऊन जर तुम्ही अलीकडे आलेल्या मराठीतल्या काही प्रसिद्ध अडल्ट कॉमेडी सिनेमांसारखा हा हि एक सिनेमा असावा असं समजून हा सिनेमा पाहायला गेलात तर नक्कीच तुमची निराशा होऊ शकते. मात्र मराठीत नवे प्रयोग करणारे सिनेमे क्वचितच प्रदर्शित होत असतात, आणि अशा सिनेमांबद्दल तुम्हाला कुतूहल असेल तर हा सिनेमा नक्कीच पाहायला हवा!

काय जमून आलंय?

• सिनेमा सुरु झाल्याच्या १० मिनिटातच सिनेमा कुठल्या वाटेने जाणार आहे हे प्रामाणिकपणे जाहीर करतो. हि वाट एरव्हीच्या तर्कशुद्ध कथानकात असते तशी नाही. किंबहुना एरव्हीचं पारंपारिक कथानक सुद्धा इथे अस्तितवात नाही. दोन ओळीत जर हे कथानक तुम्हाला सांगितलं तर ते अगदीच बालिश आणि निरर्थक वाटेल. मात्र हा सिनेमा पाहताना कथानक दुय्यम ठरतं. सिनेमातून आपला होणारा भावनानुभव अधिक महत्वाचा आहे. या सिनेमात जर गुंग होऊ शकलो तर सिनेमा अनेकदा हसवतो आणि चांगल्या अर्थी गोंधळवून लावतो.
• ‘अब्सर्ड’ या शब्दाचा गुगल वर येणारा अर्थ ‘अनरिजनेबल’, ‘इललॉजिकल’ इत्यादी हा आहे. म्हणजेच एखादा सिनेमा ‘अब्सर्ड’ आहे असं म्हटलं तर त्यापासून तर्क जपण्याच्या अपेक्षा असू नयेत. अब्सर्डपणा एखाद्या ब्लॅक कॉमेडी किंवा सटायर पेक्षा काहीसा सारखा असला तरी वेगळा असतो. सटायरमध्ये प्रत्येक गोष्टीला विशिष्ट अर्थ असतो, अब्सर्डपणात काही गोष्टींचा अर्थ लागतो (जो प्रत्येकाचा वेगळा असू शकतो) आणि काहींचा नाही लागत. या खेळात रस निर्माण झाला तर आपलं मनोरंजन नक्कीच होतं.
• सर्व कलाकार त्यांच्या परीने त्यांना दिलेली पात्र सामर्थ्याने उभी करतात. अगदी एकाच सीनमध्ये दिसलेला कलाकारही त्याचं काम उत्तम करून जातो. हा सिनेमा बनवणारी आणि त्यात काम करणारी हि सगळी तरुण मंडळी नाटकातल्या शिस्तीत तयार झालेली असल्याने कदाचित त्यांच्या कामात नवेपण जाणवला तरी नवखेपणा अजिबात जाणवत नाही. हे दिग्दर्शक म्हणून आलोक राजवाडे याचं सर्वात मोठं यश आहे.
• सिनेमाचा मूळ विषय तरुणांच्या लैंगिक वंचितपणाशी निगडीत आहे. मात्र या विषयासोबतच एखाद्या तरुणाच्या आयुष्यात इत्तर अनेक गोंधळून टाकणाऱ्या गोष्टी घडत असतात. त्यात मिसळलेला ‘अब्सर्डपणा’ याने सिनेमाचा एकूण माहोल जो तयार होतो तो या पिढीतल्या तरुणांना रिलेट होणारा आहे असं म्हणता येईल. एखादी ‘बॅड ट्रीप’ लागते तेव्हा अवतीभवतीचं जग कसं अस्पष्ट वाटू लागतं तसा अनुभव हा सिनेमा देतो.

काय फसलंय?

• सिनेमातली मुख्य पात्र आपल्यासमोर तुकड्या तुकड्यात उभी केली जातात. त्यांच्याबद्दल सहानुभूती किंवा इत्तर काही तीव्र भावना निर्माण होतील अशी सोय या सिनेमात नाही. आणि त्कया पात्दारांच्चिया एकमेकांशी असलेली नात्तयांमध्ये सुद्धा आपण फार गुंतत नाही. हे जाणीवपूर्वक केलेलं प्रयोजन असावं पण तरी त्यामुळे त्या पात्रांच्या आयुष्यात घडणाऱ्या घटना काहीश्या दुरूनच आपण पाहत राहतो.
• सिनेमाचं कथानक ‘नॉन लिनिअर’ पद्धतीने उलगडत जातं. हे प्रयोजन खरंतर एका विशिष्ट पात्रासाठी केलेलं आहे. पण ते तसं न करता त्या पात्राचं सिनेमात असणं तुकड्या तुकड्यात जर आलं असतं आणि कथानक लिनिअर पद्तधतीने उलगडललं असतं तर अधिक गुंतवणूक प्रेक्षकांची झाली असती आणि शेवटाला जेव्हा ते पात्र मुख्य घटनाक्रमात आणलं जातं तेव्हा ते जबरदस्तीने आणलं आहे असं वाटलं नसतं.
• वरच्या मुद्द्याला धरूनच, अखेर जबरदस्तीने त्या पात्राचं येणं खरंतर सामाजिक संदेश थेट पद्धतीने देता यावा यासाठी केलेलं प्रयोजन आहे. साधारणतः एखद्या ‘अब्सर्ड’ सिनेमात समाजिक संदेश दिला जाणं अपेक्षित नसतं, मात्र तो देऊच नये असाही नियम नाही. तो कसा द्यावा या बद्दल नक्कीच चर्चा होऊ शकते. इथे तो अधिक चातुर्याने देता आला असता जो सिनेमा संपल्यावर आपल्याला विचार करायला लावील.

फायनल व्हर्डीक्ट: पारंपारिक कथानकाच्या पलीकडे कथनक झेलू शकणारी रसिक मंडळी आपल्याकडे कमी प्रमाणात का होईना नक्कीच आहेत. जगभरातला सिनेमा पाहताना आपल्या भाषेत आपल्या तरुण कलाकारांनी बनवलेला हा प्रायोगिक सिनेमा आपण नक्कीच एकदा तरी पाहायला हवा!

Upcoming Zee5 original series ‘Hutatma’ starring Anjali Patil, Vaibhav Tatwawadi, Sachin Khedekar is finally exploring that chapter in the history of Maharashtra where many activists & those fighting for a united Maharashtra lost their lives. Even after so many years we have hardly seen any of it in our pop culture, whether it’s theatre, films, T.V. or the web platform! Viewpoint: Sanjay Jadhav again reinvented himself with ‘Ye Re Ye Re Paisa’ around one year ago, & he is absolutely exploiting the craft of cinema in every way! He carry forwards the same style here in ‘Luckee’. I mean again the cinematographer is over doing his cinematography, the background composer is overdoing the background score, the editor is completely going nuts with the pace of the film, the writer is overwriting, & the actors too are over acting! Everyone is doing their work with steroid injected over excitement, except the audiences! Who are bored & clueless.

What Works? 

• Probably the songs, but then one doesn’t need to visit the theatre for it! A Wifi connection or a data pack will do.

What Fails? 

• The plot of the film is mindlessly silly, though it still could have worked with a better screenplay as it had today’s sensibilities. The trailer of the film might suggest us it’s an adult comedy. But not really! It is more of an underdog story where the film tries to captivate on the drawbacks of it’s protagonist. But the film fails to create any connect between the audience & the protagonist (even after the in your face first person narration).
• One of film’s biggest failure is that it has the most uninteresting supporting characters who are given tremendous importance in the story as they drive our protagonist to do things. None of them make any connect again. Plus they all are cardboard cut out stereotypes.
• The film is basically about the moral conflict between love & lust. Which is really a good topic to base a film on, but in the attempt of making every thing entertaining it takes it’s hero on a foolishly exaggerated journey making him appear like a horny teenager who can do anything to get laid! The journey turns into a misadventure for him for outlandishly foolish reasons. The majority of the film is all about this misadventure making us wonder will the film ever get over it & start with the actual film!
• The editing of the film especially before the misadventures begin is frustratingly fast paced. The amount of information that is compressed into the film shot by shot never really gets the chance to be presented in a sober (non-steroid injected) way that can create some kind of communication from the film towards the audiences. This is another reason why the audiences are disconnected with the film from the very beginning.
• Over ambitiously the film keeps an open ending where nothing really resolves, (even if the conflict was resolved it wouldn’t have saved the film) & that would make some audiences feel cheated. One could also say that it has multiple endings. Though none of the endings have the impact to undo the mess the film has already been throughout the run time.

Final Verdict: When simply looked as a story, Lucky truly had the potential to be a terrific entertainer with lots of social commentary, but overall the film is a chaotic mess because of it’s stylistic choices. Sanjay Jadhav again proves that he has potential but again he throws everything away with his obsession to overdo everything.

Gachchi Marathi Movie Review:

Remember that iconic scene from ‘Titanic’, “You Jump I Jump”. Very instantly that film established the relation between Jack & Rose & how it’s journey would be throughout the film. ‘Gachchi’ avoids any inspiration from this perspective. It’s just two people in crisis that meet & bond as just people! Not as hero & heroine! Yet the slow & steady build-up of chemistry between ‘Shri Ram’ (Abhay Mahajan) & ‘Keerti’ (Priya Bapat) is so organic & effective.

Abhay Mahajan as Shri Ram is a hit straight from the very first frame of the film. He gets one of the most inventive introduction scenes I’ve seen in Marathi cinema. Even without him speaking a word we understand who this guy is & what his conflicts are! Shri Ram is that kind of guy who gets bullied in the school for being a good boy. He is forever a ‘Mumma’s boy’ & to add to that he also represents all traits of a typical middle class Maharashtrian! Not to forget he suffers from Diabetes too!

On the contrary Priya Bapat’s Keerti is pretty basic & doesn’t enjoy a complete arc of character development. But that probably is done for a reason to keep the mystery of the character intact. As the trailer suggests the main conflict is the same. Keerti is about to jump from the terrace of a building & accidently Shri Ram notices her & then tries to convince her to not do something like that. And yes they are total strangers. But that building is the common ground for both. I won’t reveal much about why Shri Ram is there, but let’s say it’s a crisis situation for him too, one that is very well established in the first act of the film.In this first act the senior actor Anant Jog gives a delightful performance, one of his finest! He plays a baddie, a person of power who doesn’t even forgive a rat (yes an actual rat) who bothers him in a ridiculously unique way!

One of the strongest points of ‘Gachchi’ is it’s natural flow of proceedings. It doesn’t seem like a made up plot & Keerti & Shri Ram both are people whom we care for! Even though the major portion of the film is set on a terrace, it never feels like a theatrical play. The fun of background music too contributes in making things interesting even when nothing substantial is happening, the film manages to interest us in many little things.

The performances of both Abhay & Priya are extremely natural! Priya Bapat after a long time proves that she can be completely herself on the screen & yet be the character she is playing both at the same time. Abhay Mahajan too was bating in his home conditions! If you remember Abhay Mahajan’s breakthrough role was in Hindi web series called ‘TVF Pitchers’ of ‘Mandal’. Mandal was not much different from Shri Ram except he was a cartoonish good guy, Shri Ram is more relevant in the real world.

The young director Nachiket Samant has definitely succeeded in his intentions of giving the audiences a light hearted entertainer which also lingers on a few serious notes. The one issue of the film is the way the conflicts resolve. This film has two equally important conflicts dealing with the two respective lead characters. By the end the two conflicts are intermingled & resolved without much opposition. The ease in the resolution of these conflicts makes us feel that the film has hurried a little. There’s another twist in the end which can actually be predicted earlier in the film.

Overall:

Gachchi is a safe entertainer in every way. A film that can easily connect with all kinds of audiences young & old! And hence I believe it’s a perfect film to be watched with the whole family.

Abhay Mahajan who has been seen in films like ‘Ringan’ & ‘Ranga Patanga’ faced an accident during the shooting of his upcoming Marathi film ‘Gachihi’. Landmarc Films presents, Nitin Vaidya Productions produced & Nachiket Samant directorial ‘Gachhi’ stars Abhay Mahajan & Priya Bapat in lead.

During the shoot of a scene Abhay Mahajan was completely in his character that unknowingly he hurt his head at a wall on the ‘Gachhi’. While shooting the scene with co-star Priya Bapat he lost his balance & hurt his forehead. The wound on Abhay’s forehead was quite deep & it required stitching. But since it was just the third day of the shoot & the stitches would’ve been visible throughout the film, Abhay had to undergo a plastic surgery on his forehead.

The unit of the film was shattered by this incident, but with a spirit of ‘the show must go on’ Abhay Mahajan motivated the team to continue with the shoot. The film releases on 22^nd December all over Maharashtra.
