Review:

Marathi Tigers is a film based on the Belgaum issue. It has Dr. Amol Kolhe in the lead and also has stalwarts like Ashish Vidyarthi, Vikram Gokhale, Vidyadhar Joshi and Vikas Patil.

Belgaum lies in Karnataka, but the marathi speaking population of the district cry discrimination and want Belgaum to become a part of Maharashtra. It is a very sensitive issue that has caused a huge uproar in Karnataka. The film tries to exploit this issue under the garb of preaching the message of unity in diversity. And therein lies one of the biggest issues with Marathi Tigers. Its approach is rather confusing. On one hand you are preaching unity in diversity but on the other you back the Marathi population with their demand to be included in Maharashtra. The title itself takes clear sides.

In the film, we have Lingappa (Ashish VIdyarthi), a powerful politician, who takes down a board in a village called Yellur that claims the village to be a part of Maharashtra. Anna (Gokhale) is a local leader and Shiva is his protégé. Anna has also raised Rachappa like his own son. Shiva is a leader who fights for the Marathis in the town. Lingappa’s right hand man Chana’s daughter Seema (Kiran Sharad) falls for Shiva, but Rachappa has feelings for Seema.

There you have a run of the mill, done to death love story. Marathi Tigers tries to tackle the important political issue under the garb on this love story. It not only does injustice to the political topic in hand, but the love story too is very unimaginative and drab. It lacks any kind of originality.

Another major issue I had with the film are the provocative intentions. Right from the posters itself it is clear that the film is taking sides and trying to exploit the sensitive issue for its own good. The film’s release has been severely opposed in Karnataka and other border regions.

Overall:

Provocative and unimaginative love story pretending to tackle a sensitive and relevant political issue.

Sonu Nigam the sensational bollywood recently sang for a new Marathi Film ‘Online Binline’ with Priyanka Barve. This is a slow track which will show the romantic camaraderie between the lead pair Sidharth Chandekar and Rutuja Shinde. What was more exciting, Sonu sang this entire song in one take! He was mesmerized with the lyrics and tune very much.

This song will be shot in slow motion like Pahla Nasha from QSQT. What also adds to its melody is the chemistry between the two singer’s resonant voices. After hearing the edited song the Producer Shreyash Jadhav thought Sonu Nigam was as magical as rainbow in sun and will surely compliment the character played by Sidharth Chandekar.

‘Online-Binline is directed by Kedar Gaikwad. Film’s star cast comprises of Hemant Dhome, Sidharth Chandekar, Rutuja Shinde. The film is scheduled to release in the month of June, 2015.

Singer Sonu Nigam is one more addition to the non Marathi singers making waves in Marathi music industry. He is not new to Marathi films having sung popular songs like ‘Hirva Nisarg‘ in Navra Majha Navsacha and the recent hit ‘Tik Tik Vajte‘ from the super hit Duniyadari. Now he is all set to sing two sings for the same Marathi film which is Ajay Phansekar’s written and directed film ‘Cheater‘ which was recorded in a Mumbai studio after taking the mahurat for producer Swiss Entertainment.

The music is composed by debutant Abhijeet Narvekar who was an arranger and an instrument player in Sonu Nigam’s shows. He says, “When I told Sonujee that I will be composing for a Marathi film , he immediately expressed a desire to sing for me and I was pleasantly surprised as it was my first film and that Sonujee to sing for me really took me aback.and it was a big achievement for me. After recording the first song , I approached hesitantly to Sonujee to record a second song and he immediately said yes. Both the songs are duets sung by Anandi Joshi with Sonujee. Both the songs are of different genre and there are a total of four songs in the film. I am thankful to director Ajay Phansekar for giving me my first big break”

From the title ‘Cheater’ one can ascertain as to what the film is all about. But wait for the film to release to know more about the film which is being shot on the beautiful locales of Mauritius and the second schedule will be shot in Wai .The film is written, scripted, and with screenplay , story,and direction by Ajay Phansekar. The film boasts of brilliant performances from stars like Asawari Joshi, Hrishikesh Joshi, Vaibhav Tatwavadi, Pooja Sawant, and Suhas Joshi. The DOP Is B.Laxman. Lyrics by Akhil Joshi. The film is set for an early release.
