Story Outline :

Nishant Barve (Umesh Kamat), who works in the U.S, returns home in Pune on a short break to marry a girl chosen by his mother through a marriage bureau headed by a lady (Swati Chitnis) strictly believing in horoscopes. While on leave, Nishant loses his job in

the US. The news exposes the true face of his to-be wife and he breaks up with her. Nishant, who always was a disbeliever in horoscopes and other such things, insults the head of marriage bureau and rubbishes off her profession.

He comes across a stranger Aditi (Mukta Barve) who slowly becomes a friend. Aditi is eager to start a unique marriage bureau. Impressed by Aditi’s determination, Nishant agrees to be her partner in the venture. Everything goes smooth for Aditi and Nishant, who also start developing feelings for each other. Their bureau also tastes its first success through the marriage of Rahul (Siddharth Chandekar) and Anandi (Tejashree Pradhan). But the business partners face a big hurdle in the form of the head of the rival marriage bureau, whom Nishant had insulted.

Review :

Most of the modern day Hindi film love stories cannot be enjoyed by the entire family due to various obvious reasons. But that is not the case with Marathi cinema these days. No doubt, films like Shree Partner, Premachi Goshta and Time Please were new age romantic films but they also maintained a fine balance between modernism and traditions. This legacy of appealing, modern yet clean love stories is continued with debutant Ajay Naik’s Lagna Pahave Karun.

The film surely has the boy-meets-girl saga but like all intelligent love stories, it doesn’t appear filmy and has a good flow and realistic touch to it. A mixture of wit and emotions in the dialogues keep you engrossed throughout.

But what truly sets this love story aside is the background of marriage bureau and the rivalry born out of it. This topic is hardly explored before. On a personal note, my hatred towards marriage bureaus has diminished after witnessing the working of the one explored here.

The closing moments, however, stop the film from being truly exceptional. Although the climax is heartwarming, it could have been presented in a better way. But what is more questionable is not including a triumphant scene between Nishant and the owner of rival bureau, for which there was every scope. This would have surely generated applause. Nevertheless, these points don’t reduce your overall satisfaction much.

Naik’s soulful compositions are placed well and suit the need of the film. The camerawork is impressive and so is the background score. The editing should also be lauded for keeping the length of the film inside two hours.

Like every love story, performances play a key role here too. Umesh Kamat once again gets every emotion right and provides a lovable act. Mukta Barve too deserves similar praise for her impressive performance. Siddharth Chandekar and Tejashree Pradhan play a troubled couple aptly. Swati Chitnis succeeds in providing the antagonistic effect very well. The rest of the supporting cast fits the bill.

Overall :

Lagna Pahave Karun is yet another mature love story of the year.

An Indian Marriage is ritualistic and the entire ceremony of marriage is elaborate in our culture. In todays fast paced life getting married and staying married has become a challenge of sorts. Therefore, to go beyond the obvious ‘matchmaking’, 2 youngsters start a Marriage Bureau that tries to consider the changing lifestyle, expectations from each and other and eventually having a happy married life. This film is about their struggle while offering these services. This film is a soft love story that unfolds with this theme as the backdrop.

The Music of the film ‘Lagna Pahave Karun’ was launched at the hands of leading Hindi musician-singer Shankar Mahadevan and Ehasan Nurani. The music has been very well received and enjoys immense popularity. The lyrics of the songs are written by Ajay Naik , Vaibhav Joshi, Ambarish Deshpande, Kshitij Patawardhan and composed by Ajay Naik. Shankar Mahadevan, Shaan, Kunal Ganjawala, Bela Shende and Akriti Kakkad have sung the songs.

Umesh Kamat, Mukta Barve, Siddharth Chandekar, Tejashri Pradhan, Jayant Savarkar and Swati Chitnis are the main cast and the story is written by Ajay Naik. The screenplay and dialogues are done by Sameer Vidwans and Kshitij Patwardhan. ‘ Solariz International’ and ‘Sprint Art creations’ Mohan Damle and Kiran Deshpande respectively are the main producer and Ashish Deshpande and Sanjeev Langarakande are the co-producers of this film.

After a string of successful films targetting the youth, such as Duniyadari, Time please, Balak Palak, comes another youth oriented funfilled love story ‘Lagna Pahaave Karun’. The film marks the directorial debut of enterprising Music director & producer Ajay Naik, who sort of started the trend of youth oriented films in Marathi with his very first production ‘Satrangi Re’. Following the success of the film, he is now all set for his directorial debut with ‘Lagna Pahaave Karun’ which deals with, as the name suggests, topic of Arranged marriages and the influence of Astrology, Horoscope and Match Making on it.

Marriage Institution has special significance in our society. However, it is very challenging for today’s youth to get married and to sustain this relationship for long term. It is becoming difficult in current situations to spare time for partner due to fast and tensed lifestyle. Considering this fact, two youths start Marriage Bureau. These two youth not only exercise traditional ways for match making but also support it by adopting modern thoughts such as importence of compatibility to ensurr that the relationship can be sustained. The film is all about how this duo faces many challenges while achieving their objective.

A music CD of this film was launched at the hands of leading music composer/directors from Hindi Film Industry, Shankar & Ehsan in a grand function organized at MIG Club, Bandra. Sanjay Chabriya’s ‘Everest Entertainment’ has released the Music of this Film. Leading singers like Shaan, Kunal Ganjavala, Bela Shende & Akriti Kakkad who has sung for the filme were also present. They performed on their respective songs from the film with Shankar stealing the show with the additional rendition of his signature ‘Vishwavinayak’ song.

‘Lagna Pahaave Karun’ presents the fresh pair of supreamly talented Umesh Kamat and Mukta Barve as well as Siddarth Chandekar and Tejashree Pradhan. They are ably supported by veterans Jayant Sawarkar and Swati Chitnis. The story is written by Ajay Naik with Screen play and Dialogues by Sameer Vidwans and Kshitij Patwardhan. Songs are written by Ajay Naik, Vaibhav Joshi, Ambarish Deshpande and Kshitij Patwardhan. Music is composed by Ajay Naik himself.
