The highly awaited Vishal Devrukhkar directorial ‘Girlz‘ stars Ankita Lande, Ketaki Narayan, Anvita Phaltankar, Parth Bhalerao, Devika Daftardar & others. There’s another extremely talented cast member in the film, the national award winning actor Swanand Kirkire (for the film ‘Chumbak’)! While the length of his role would be less it would be still be very important!

Naren Kumar the producer of ‘Girlz’ & also the producer of ‘Chumbak’ is good friends with Swanand Kirkire. And when he narrated the idea of ‘Girlz’ to Kirkire, Kirkire expressed his wish to be a part of the film! So he ended up being a part of ‘Girlz’! And it is going to be a huge surprise for the audiences!

Kirkire will be seen playing the character of cop in ‘Girlz’ and it is something that the audience haven’t seen him doing! But then surprising the audiences has always been his forte! Kirkire first started out as lyricist, then became a playback singer and now he is a national award winning actor! ‘Girlz’ hits theatres this Friday on 29th of November!

These days remixing an old classic song has become a trend. Musicians in Bollywood, Marathi and around the world are unapologetically remixing classic songs without much thought and without any of their own addition to it! But the brand new remix from upcoming Marathi film ‘Girlz‘ is an exception to this! Remix of the classic lavani ‘Chabidar Chabi’ from the classic film ‘Pinjara’, doesn’t feel like a remix made just for the purpose of cashing in!

The new lyrics added to the song penned by Jai Atre are easily relatable to today’s social media savvy generation. The rearranged music too has a lot of creativity and experimentation than simply adding fast paced beats that we normally hear in such remixes. The music is recreated by Praful-Swapnil.

The song is voiced by Mugdha Karhade & Adarsh Shinde and their vocals too are distinctly different from the original singer Usha Mangeshkar and her style of singing. If this amount of creative work can be done on remixes then surely we won’t mind, however original songs are always more welcomed.

The makers of the ‘Boyz‘ franchise are now bringing a new spin off film ‘Girlz‘ and it pretty much looks just as raunchy and forcibly funny as the previous franchise! Just instead of the boys we have girls! We have a new genre of adult sex comedies which is fine but the problem none of this films primarily have succeeded as comedies!

‘Girlz’ too feels completely unfunny from the trailer. You see flashy exotic locales, even more flashier girls and a background score that is endlessly trying too hard to sound cool. A couple of recent Hindi films and web shows have followed the exact pattern that we see here, the whole idea of modern day feminism has been misinterpreted by makers of such content!

However it’s unfair to write off ‘Girls’ simply from the trailer and we hope the film proves us wrong and instead turns out to be a healthy entertainer if not a socially aware film about today’s girls breaking out of their societal boundaries and restrictions!

The ‘Boyz‘ movie franchise in Marathi continues it’s misadventures with sex comedies that are not really sex comedies with ‘Girlz‘ an upcoming spin off or an extension of the original series. The teaser of ‘Girlz’ is out and looks nothing different than the first two films of the franchise. Only difference being that the lead characters are girls instead of boys!

However one can’t deny the fact that this franchise has connected with the audience. Will ‘Girlz’ become similarly connecting to the audience? Only time will tell! The problem with the teaser of ‘Girlz’ is that it inttoduces the central characters through the perspective of the ‘Boyz’ and which suggests that the primary target audience of the film will again be boys!

Though we won’t mind being proven wrong by this film. Maybe we would get the first Marathi comedy that instead of objectifying females starts giving us a fresh perspective about what it’s like to be a teenage girl in this day and age or maybe it’s too much to ask for from this franchise!
