‘Jaudya na Balasaheb’ is an upcoming big budget Marathi movie. Recently on the occasion of Makar Sankranti this movie’s editing has been completed.

‘Jaudya Na Balasaheb’ movie written and directed by Girish Kulkarni and even he acted in this movie along with Mohan Joshi, Reema Lagoo, Dilip Prabhavalkar, Sai Tamhankar, Manava Naik, Purva Pawar, Nandakishor Chaughule, Shrikant Yadav, Savita Prabhune, Bhau Kadam and Spruha Joshi.

‘Jaudya Na Balasaheb’ produced by Ajay-Atul, Poonam Shende, Vinay Ganu, Prashant Pethe and Umesh Kulkarni. In earlier Marathi movies Poonam Shende has produced Swami Public Limited, Vinay Ganu produced Anumati, Postcard, Highway and Prashant Pethe & Umesh Kulkarni produced Gabhricha Paus & Valu.

After writing Girish also wants to direct movie and ‘Jaudya Na Balasaheb’ movie has fulfilled his dream. Direction is not an easy task. It’s all about creativity and Girish has done very well, audience will enjoy this movie.

And this show has one special moment where they will show poems which were performed by Padgaonkar Sir himself.

National Award winning actor Girish Kulkarni is set to make his direction debut for the upcoming film Jaudya Na Balasaheb. Also, the ace musician duo of Ajay-Atul will be one of the producers for this film. Director Umesh Kulkarni and Vinay Ganu will also be co-producing under the banner Arbhaat Nirmiti.

Jaudya Na Balasaheb is a comedy film and lies much outside the genres of Girish’s earlier ventures. The film stars veterans Reema Lagoo, Mohan Joshi as well as Girish, Sai Tamhankar, Manava Naik, Bhau Kadam, H N Ramchandran, Vibhawari Deshpande and Shrikant Yadav among others. The lyrics by Vaibhav Joshi have been given music by Ajay-Atul while Nitin Vaidya is the executive producer of the film.

Poonam Shende of Saarthi Entertainment will be producing the film along with Ajay-Atul Productions, coming together, there is excitement in the air. Ajay-Atul have also composed the songs for the film. Umesh is known for films like Masala, Pune 52, Deeol and Vihir while Poonam has been associated with Matter and Swami Public Ltd. Along with these two is Vinay Ganu who has produced films like Anumati, Postcard and the upcoming Highway.

The shooting of the film is expected to start in February-March in and around Pune according to Umesh Kulkarni.

Review:

A postman is considered a messiah when he brings delightful news. But he also has to bear the brunt of being labeled as inauspicious if the letter consist a tragic update. Ahire’s exploration of such interesting and unusual experiences of a postman in Postcard is not one of his best efforts but definitely worth watching for being visually stunning and heartwarming.

The three experiences of the central character of the postman are presented in three different stories. They are analyzed as under:

1. Ever since the age of 10-12, Bhikaji (Dilip Prabhavalkar) has been working as woodcutting laborer at the same place. Now, in his 80s, he wishes to join his family staying in a nearby village and spend the rest of his days with them. But he is unable to leave as he faces severe exploitation from his boss. Bhikaji develops a bond with the postman (Kulkarni), who reads the good news of his newly born grandson.

This is the best of the three stories simply because of a solid storyline. The happy and sad turn of events and the final emotional twist is enough to win your hearts. But it is Prabhavalkar’s brilliant act that plays a large role in the overall effect. It is incredible to see him carry out such a physical demanding role in this age with ease.

2. The postman is transferred to a scenic hill station. While entering a school to deliver a letter, he is stopped by a soldier Kamble (Kishore Kadam). He hands over a letter to the postman and pleads him to deliver it to her daughter studying in the school. He finally agrees but the task lands him in some mysterious trouble.

What starts as a funny tale turns into something unusually emotional. The intriguing narrative and an unexpected culmination are the strong points here. But it is strange to see some vital questions left unanswered. Also, the postman’s reaction to a shocking revelation is highly surprising. As expected, Kadam provides an aptly moving performance. In a limited screen time, Vibhavari Deshpande leaves behind a solid and memorable impact!

3. The postman’s next destination is a village with some barren land. Here he comes across a young girl Gulzar (Radhika Apte), who is a courtesan. She entertains numerous guests but longs for her lover (Subodh Bhave). She waits for hours for the postman to receive a letter from her beau, who has promised to marry her.

This story is beautifully shot and it also contains an earnest performance from Apte. She deserves to be seen much more. But this part tests your patience after a point of time as there is not much in terms of story development. Hence, it appears dragged most of the times. A surprising step taking by the postman also serves no purpose. Subodh Bhave provides a decent act.

Coming to the technicalities, cinematographer Yogesh Rajguru has presented a visual treat while capturing the beautiful locales, especially the hill station. There is not much scope for music (Gandhaar Sangoram) but the Mujra song featuring Apte is soulful.

Present throughout the film, Girish Kulkarni realistically gets into the skin of the character of a postman and gives a brilliant performance. Sai Tamhankar, as his wife, too plays a part well; she plays a rural character for a change.

Overall :

Postcard deserves a watch for being a realistically amusing tale of a postman. But it will have a tough time at the box office due to a low hype and the fact that three other Marathi films and three Hindi films have released simultaneously.

Synopsis : The film reveals the stories of three people whose lives are dependent on the incomplete letters. For postman giving their respective letters to people is the only thing, initially he never got involved with the content of letters. Its then, when she comes across a letter and shares the content with her husband. Since then the postman also unknowingly gets attached with the recipients and their emotions. And this content of letters makes him restless, and some where he starts feeling guilty, thinking whether he could help these people.

Story Outline : Kavudu (Upendra Limaye) lives a tribal life with his wife Bhulabai (Vibhawari Deshpande) and two children near a tiger sanctuary in the interiors of Maharashtra. After their already struggling life goes through another bad turn, Bhulabai has no option but to convert to Christianity. The film focuses on the consequences of the conversion.

Review : A character in Satish Manwar’s Tuhya Dharma Koncha? is once heard saying, “Our survival is more important that our religion and name.” The movie gives this bold message in such a realistically fearless yet enchanting manner that one is forced to stand up and applaud. In fact, Tuhya Dharma Koncha? is a high quality celluloid experience in all aspects that has the potential to please audiences world over.

Thankfully, the film doesn’t aim to be a tear-jerker about the tragic struggle of a tribal family. The focus is completely kept on how struggle for survival forces someone to happily change their religion or God. The issue of religious extremism is also portrayed fearlessly. What makes the film special is how beautifully the visual medium is exploited to put forth the message rather than making it preachy with the use of dramatic dialogues.

As a writer and director, Mawar easily succeeds in getting us involved with the family’s tribal life without making the proceedings appear as a docu-drama whatsoever. Even the simplest of everyday scenes are presented in a manner that will amuse you. This ensures that you instantly feel for the characters and their decision to convert. The story flow is maintained perfectly with the important issue of conversion being introduced and developed in an intelligent manner.

There is always a danger of the writer or director going overboard with the consequences of such an act in such genre of films but fortunately that doesn’t happen here. That part is portrayed in a sensible yet mature manner which stops the proceedings from going chaotic or loud. But it is the climax that takes the cake for it delights you for the daring message it gives in a simple yet most appealing manner.

There does come a moment in the second half where the film shows signs of becoming a drag. This is also felt during a song on Jesus which should have been shortened. But since that doesn’t happen for a longer period, it won’t bother you, especially after the final culmination. All in all, after Gabhricha Paus, Manwar has again given a loud message that he is here to stay.

What further gives an international feel to the film is the artistic camerawork (Parixit Warrier) and an impressive background score (Augustine Samuel). Perfect art direction (Ranjeet Desai) and costume designing (Geeta Godbole) help in adding realism. Some taut editing also needs to be lauded. Dattaprasad Ranade composed tracks suit the subject. The song ‘Ravavani Lanka’ deserves special mention, also for the lyrics.

In a performance-oriented film, the actors rise to the occasion. Upendra Limaye once again proves himself as one of the top performers in the Marathi film arena by giving a realistically mature act. Vibhwari Deshpande is simply outstanding! The way she gets every nuance right in a difficult role speaks volumes about her talent.

Kishor Kadam shines as a Catholic Priest. Some earnest support is provided by Gouri Konge, Yash Sutar, Suhas Palshikar, Sneha Majgaonkar, Shashank Shende, Padmanabh Bind, etc.

Overall, Tuhya Dharma Koncha? is a superlative realistic saga that deserves to be seen by all. Due to the low hype, there film is in desperate need of positive word-of-mouth to have an impact at the box office.
