Ashutosh Gowariker starrer Ventilator is getting tremendous admiration from critics and fans all over the world. It has not just opened to a stupendous box office collection at its first weekend but as it enters its second week in cinemas, the film has collected 11 crore in 11 days at the box office. It continues to hold strong despite of the decision of currency demonetisation taken by Indian government and big banner franchise of bollywood films and regional films. Ventilator triumphs through both. 

Talking about the film success Director Rajesh Mapuskar expressed, “It’s hard to celebrate when so many are suffering because of the demonetisation but I am absolutely overwhelmed with the response Ventilator is getting and standing tall against the crisis. It’s heart warming to see queues outside tickets Windows for Ventilator , I hope in some small way the film is a silver lining in a stressful situation.”

Zee Studios’s Business Head of Marathi Film Division Nikhil Sane quoted, “There is a remarkably rugged renaissance reverberating across Marathi cinema. Same time last year the magnum opus musical drama “Katyar Kaljaat Ghusali” held its ground strong against the big banner Bollywood festive release.  As 2016 draws to an end we get another Marathi film of deep emotional worth, which challenges our long standing notions of the joint family system is embraced and loved by the audience though there is currency demonetisation.”

Ventilator is directed by Rajesh Mapuskar. The film features a sterling ensemble of 73 speaking characters. It is produced by Priyanka Chopra and Dr. Madhu Chopra of Purple Pebble Pictures, in association with Magij Pictures and presented by
Zee Studios’s Nikhil Sane. Ventilator was released on 4th November 2016. The film is running successfully in 258 theaters with 4165 per week shows all over Maharashtra.

Ventilator, a film directed by Rajesh Mhapuskar has become a box office success all over Maharashtra. The lead actor Jitendra Joshi and Mhapuskar recently watched the film along with the audience at Dombivali theatre. Other crew members Rohan Mhapuskar, Viay Nikam, Bhushan Telang and Asha Dnyate were also present for this special show. The film is produced by Priyanka Chopra.

Audience became very emotional during this film. One audience member commented, “Though we have a very big extended family, nowadays we generally come together for marriages or death only. The emotional touch has been lost. The film shows this mentality perfectly. I am watching this film for the second time. I have decided to take my daughters to every relative’s place on weekends so that the relationship will always remain strong for the next generation”

Jitendra Joshi has been getting rave reviews for this film. He said, “I have been getting very emotional comments from the audience. One girl told me that she has some problems with her mother. But now I have understood that parents always think for our betterment.”

Ashutosh Gowarikar has returned on screen after almost two decades. His acting has received positive response from the audience. His role as Raja Kamerkar who is a successful Hind film director and has been away from his family has been very much appreciated. The struggle between the world of glamour and simpleton villagers, their expectations and miscommunication with his father has been effectively put by Gowarikar on the screen.

Social media users have also expressed their positive views for this film. The song “Baba” by Priyanka Chopra has become an instant hit. The promotional song will be added in the film as well.

Ventilator Marathi Movie Review :

Rajesh Mapuskar, the director of this film has worked as an assistant to RajkumarHirani on several films. His debut Hindi film ‘Ferrari Ki Sawari’ too was produced by Hirani. The reason we mention this is the fact that even ‘Ventilator‬‘ has a typical Raju Hirani formula to it. And it works especially in the second half. Though the major variation of the formula is evident & i.e. Raju Hirani makes us laugh & cry alternatively throughout & not all at once, while Mapuskar has clearly slotted the serious part of the film for the second half.

Gajanan Karmekar is an old man counting his last breaths. ‘Prasanna’ (Jitendra Joshi) is his son who somehow admits his father in a luxurious hospital. The whole family residing at different places of Maharashtra & abroad is now supposed to meet the dying man one last time. However the treatment to this basic plot is surprisingly humorous & over the top (in the first half). Raja Karmekar (Ashutosh Gowariker) is a Bollywood director who is often distant from the family but since Gajanan Uncle was dearly close to him he too is coming to meet him. Bhau (Satish Alekar) is Gajanan’s elder brother & Raja’s father. Raja constantly insists that Bhau shouldn’t be bothered to travel all the way to Mumbai as he is aware that Bhau’s presence can cause the whole family to initiate a debate on property issues for which the time is definitely not right.

Apart from Bhau, Prasanna & Raja there’s a whole lot of cast but it’s only these three characters that are crucial to the main conflict of the film. The first half is repetitive with the kind of humor you see in the trailer. People being awestruck by a celebrity (Raja of course!) doesn’t appear novel after a while. There’s this one brother of Raja, a sort of a guide to Raja for reintroducing him to the family. The actor casted in that role is almost unknown (deliberately) & gives unnatural underplay performance for no particular reason. Even with the flaws the first half could have clicked provided they hadn’t revealed too much of it in the trailer itself. Most of the punches that are actually funny are given away in an unnecessary elaborate trailer.

So Ventilator wholly belongs to the second half! And the second half belongs to two fantastic actors Jitendra Joshi & Satish Alekar. Sukanya Mone (Prasanna’s elder sister) too gives few interesting moments but her character lacks the kind of backing Bhau& especially Prasanna enjoy in the script. There are scenes where Jitu Joshi proves his immaculate caliber & sends shivers down our spine. This could well be his greatest performances competing with his performance in ‘Tukaram’. Senior playwright Satish Alekar has been seen playing character roles for a while now, but ‘Bhau’ of Ventilator seems to be tailor made for him & he too manages to outscore the rest of the cast with his to the point realistic play. One point we noticed, both these characters are not in any single humorous scene from the first half. They have been deliberately kept aloof from the rest of the cast to give the final emotional kick.

Ashutosh Gowariker’s highly welcomed acting comeback doesn’t fall flat but doesn’t really shine. Maybe soon this return to Marathi can lead to direction of a Marathi film from him for which we all could be excited. It’s difficult to compare Rajesh Mapuskar’s ‘Ferrari Ki Sawari’ with ‘Ventilator’ but one aspect is quite evident ‘Ferrari Ki Sawari’ had a cute innocent side to it & in case of Ventilator a similar attempt has been made which doesn’t really succeed. Still as we say in the headline Ventilator definitely packs a solid emotional punch!

Overall:

Jitendra Joshi is probably the finest Marathi actor in his age group & watching the man perform at his peak is an experience to be cherished!

Ever since the first two teasers of Priyanka Chopra produced, Rajesh Mapuskar directed & Ashutosh Gowariker starrer Ventilator came out we all have been excited for the film. The first two teasers introduced to the basic world the film was set in. The second teaser focused exclusively on Ashutosh Gowariker.

But now the official full trailer of Ventilator is out & it’s exhilaratingly brilliant.
