KAAAL a horror film tailor-made for the audience written and directed by D. Sandeep, set to hit the screens all over the Maharashtra on 24th January 2020

Teaser and Poster of the upcoming Marathi horror movie KAAAL which will be a path breaking and the first-of-its-kind cinema in Marathi language was released today. While some horror films have been made in Marathi, the style of execution of KAAAL is what sets it apart from the rest.

KAAAL, which is written, directed and edited by D Sandeep, is eyeing a 24th January 2020 release. It has been produced by Hemant Ruparel and Ranjit Thakur of Frames Production, Nitin Vaidya of Nitin Vaidya Production, D Sandeep of Kantilal Production & Pravin Kharat and Anuj Adwani, The Movie features Satish Gejage, Sanket Vishwasrao, Shreyas Behere, Rajkumar Jarange, Vaibhavi Chavan and Gayatri Chighlikar in pivotal roles.

So, for filmmaker D Sandeep, it wasn’t an easy decision to venture into the Marathi film industry with a genre that rarely gets made in the industry. But the filmmaker was determined by real-life incidents that drove him to complete the film.

Speaking about his inclination towards horror film Writer and Director D. Sandeep says, “It was during my college years that I got interested in this genre thanks to Hollywood films on the subject. I did my research and am ready to present KAAAL to the audience now. I think the film will change the Marathi audience’s perception of the genre and pave way for more such films in the zone.” “So be ready to get scared on 24th January 2020” adds D Sandeep.

Who could have thought that all these above mentioned actors could be working together in a Marathi film and that too a film which isn’t a romantic drama or a comedy but a hardcore stylistic political film! Well the director-writer pair of Sameer Vidwans-Kshitij Patwardhan along with the backing of Zee Studios has made this possible with their new film ‘Dhurala‘!

Currently in a completely chaotic world of politics in Maharashtra a film like ‘Dhurala’ makes more sense than ever! However it will be interesting to see what the pair of Vidwans-Patwardhan contribute to this genre. So far filmmakers in Marathi have mostly sticked to their comfort zones, i.e artists from Mumbai-Pune have hardly focused on rural backdrops in their films, similarly filmmakers coming from rural parts haven’t tried stories set in the urban backdrop much.

But with ‘Dhurala’ Vidwans-Patwardhan have focused on rural politics! From the teaser of the film one can make out that this will be a stylistic commercial political drama about the competition and the games people play in politics! It will be interesting to see how the audiences react to it when they are already much entertained by the current political scenario of our state! ‘Dhurala’ releases in theatres on 3rd of Jan, 2020!

The teaser of highly awaited action thriller starring Sonalee Kulkarni in & as ‘Vicky Velingkar‘ is out! And it seems like something that has never been seen in Marathi cinema before. The film is directed by Bollywood filmmaker who made the cult hit ‘Mickey Virus’!

Producers Arjun Singgh Baran and Kartk D Nishandar of GSEAMS in association with presenters Pranay Chokshi and Dancing Shiva Production released the first look of actress Sonalee Kulkarni and glimpse of special character Mask Man and Actress Spruha Joshi from the Marathi film Vicky Velingkar recently. Directed by Saurabh Varma, ‘Vicky Velingkar’ features Sonalee Kulkarni, Spruha Joshi, Vineeta Kharat, Kettan Singh, Jui Pawar, Gaurav More, Sangram Samel and Rama Joshi.

The teaser depicts a ‘Joker’ like supervillain in the form of the Mask Man, being introduced in Marathi films for the first time. “Vicky Velingkar’ is a comic book artist and a clock seller who is entangled in an unexpected life mystery. The film is about a female underdog who rises against all odds” says Saurabh Varma, director who has Mickey Virus, 7 Hours to Go and other films to his credit as director.

The ‘Boyz‘ movie franchise in Marathi continues it’s misadventures with sex comedies that are not really sex comedies with ‘Girlz‘ an upcoming spin off or an extension of the original series. The teaser of ‘Girlz’ is out and looks nothing different than the first two films of the franchise. Only difference being that the lead characters are girls instead of boys!

However one can’t deny the fact that this franchise has connected with the audience. Will ‘Girlz’ become similarly connecting to the audience? Only time will tell! The problem with the teaser of ‘Girlz’ is that it inttoduces the central characters through the perspective of the ‘Boyz’ and which suggests that the primary target audience of the film will again be boys!

Though we won’t mind being proven wrong by this film. Maybe we would get the first Marathi comedy that instead of objectifying females starts giving us a fresh perspective about what it’s like to be a teenage girl in this day and age or maybe it’s too much to ask for from this franchise!

‘Copy‘ an upcoming Marathi film belongs to this category! ‘Copy’ seems to focus on the adolescent age when kids are trying to take education very seriously. Especially for kids in the rural villages education is the only means of bettering their life and fulfilling their dreams!

While such stories are not new in Marathi cinema ‘Copy’ stands out for it’s treatment. Technically the film looks on par with international standards of cinema. The teenage actors too seem to avoiding the usual over the top acting done by teen actors in our films. Let’s hope the audiences like the film when it releases in theatres all over Maharashtra on 1st of November.

Starring Sonalee Kulkarni in the titular role ‘Hirkani’ this film promises to be a thrilling real-time tale of bravery! Many younger audiences of today’s generation aren’t really aware of this folktale and hence this film is important in a social way!

The teaser of the film doesn’t reveal much but gives us a glimpse of the tone of the film. The film will have a thriller, survival film tone for sure. More so we can expect the film to be technically perfect as it’s made by the director of the cult film ‘Kachcha Limbu’.
