Lai Bhari has already collected Rs. 27 crores breaking record of Duniyadari. Duniyadari had earned Rs. 26.50 crores. The current box office record for highest grosser is held by Timepass (Rs. 37 crores). The cast and crew of Lai Bhari are hoping to break this record.

Lai Bhaari, Riteish Deshmukh’s first Marathi movie has created a box office record by earning Rs. 10 crores in first three days only. The movie was released in more than 400 screens across Maharashtra including Single screens and multiplexes.On the first day itself the film has earned 3 crores 10 lakh. Lai Bhari also made a record of releasing in Goa Gujrat, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and 1500 shows daily and 11000 shows in a week. Theatre owners have decided to increase the numbers of the shows after witnessing such huge response from the audience.

The cast and crew of the film thanked the audience for overwhelming response and their tremendous love at a special event to celebrate the success of the movie.

Jitendra Thakare, the producer of the film in on cloud nine and expressed that, “We wanted this film to reach in every part of Maharashtra, so we demanded Taluka and village theatres along with multiplexes. The first three days box office collection proves that our aim was correct.”

The film is produced by Jitendra Thakare and Amey Khopkar under the banner of Cinemantra along with Mumbai Film Company of Genelia Deshmukh. Directed by Nishikant Kamat and the cast include Riteish, Sharad kelkar, Tanvi Azmi, Radhika Apte, Aditi Pohankar, Uday Tikekar and Sanjay Khapre.

According to a trade analyst, Marathi movie ‘Lai Bhaari’ opened with excellent numbers. Starring Riteish Deshmukh in his debut for Marathi cinema, the film had a smashing opening and collected 3.10 crores at the domestic box office.

As per trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film has garnered an amount of Rs 3.10 crore, on its opening day. Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#LaiBhaari [Marathi] records STUPENDOUS figures across Maharashtra. Collects ₹ 3.10 cr on Fri. AWESOME!”

‘Lai Bhaari’ have broken all the previous first day collection records of films like ‘Duniyadari’ and ‘Timepass’. This movie is presented by Essel Vision and Zee Talkies, who earlier have presented hit movies like Timepass and Fandry. The movie will be realeasing on 11 July. The producers are Jitendra Thakare, Amey Khopkar and Genelia Deshmukh.

The character played by Riteish is Mauli. The story is about a mother-son relationship. The action sequences are directed by Kaushal-Moses. Riteish and Sharad Kelkar- who is playing a villain have been working hard for these action scenes. The film is directed by Nishikant Kamat who had delivered superhot Dombivali Fast and Yeh Hai Mumbai Meri Jaan in the past. The music composed by Ajay Atul is already on the top of charts.

Story Outline:

Mauli (Riteish Deshmukh) is a carefree youngster living in the holy village of Pandharpur. As his parents are unknown, he considers Vitthal-Rakumai as his parents. He is in love with his childhood sweetheart (Radhika Apte). His free-flowing life comes to a halt when he gets to know a shocking truth about his past. This revelation also brings him at loggerheads with the evil Sangram (Sharad Kelkar).

Review:

From the trailers, Nishikant Kamat’s Lai Bhaari looked like a typical hero-oriented masala film. While it surely is one, the film in totality is much, much more than what is revealed by the promotional material. This doesn’t ensure a quality product though due to an age-old storyline, done-to-death narration and few other issues. However, there are enough paisa-vasool moments due to Riteish Deshmukh’s heroics that make the film a one-time watch for the lovers of this genre.

The surprise element is surely refreshing but it gives you a feeling that the film is a complete remake of a Hindi blockbuster released in 2000 (mentioning the name will be an obvious spoiler). It also makes it appear as if we are watching two different movies in two halves. The first half is quite non-happening since nothing substantial happens until its end. A lot of screen time is given to elements that make the film appear like a high on culture family drama.

The turnaround at interval point takes the film to a different level although one is able to guess the plot twist long back. Nevertheless, the genre comes alive in the second half with many cheering and whistling moments born out of Riteish’s antics.

But barring this, there is nothing much to keep the entertainment quotient high due to some tried and tested situations that we have been witnessing in Hindi films since 1970s. One might argue that such things haven’t been seen in Marathi films before. Although this is true, one can’t deny that the Marathi audience has been watching such genre of Hindi films since decades, more so since last few years. And to tell such a tale in over 2 hours 30 minutes is also not a good idea. Plus, mentioning Vitthal-Rakumai after every few minutes post interval becomes an overdose after a while.

The theme track ‘Mauli Mauli’ becomes one of the plus points of the film due to the overwhelming effect it provides. Apart from this song, ‘Aala Holicha San’ is noteworthy. The camerawork is impressive, especially during the aerial shots. The background score is as per the need.

Talking about the performances, it is Riteish Deshmukh all the way, especially in the second half. The actor packs a punch through a powerful act that is sure to delight his fans. After a terrific act in the recently released Hindi movie Ek Villain, he is going through the form of his life. But despite his towering performance, Sharad Kelkar makes his presence felt through a convincing portrayal of the bad guy.

Tanvi Azmi plays Riteish’s mother with conviction. Radhika Apte, as the protagonist’s love interest, is decent. The actor in the role of a kid girl displays plenty of cuteness. Aaditi Pohankar and the rest of the actors play the parts as per the requirement. Salman Khan is super-impressive in a cameo. Genelia D’Souza too provides the surprise element in another cameo.

Overall :

Riteish Deshmukh’s powerful act makes Lai Bhaari a one-time watch. With the terrific hype and the main lead’s heroics, the film will surely turn out to be a blockbuster at the box office.

Believe it or not, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan wanted a meaty role in Lai Bhaari. Ritesh Deshmukh, a hero of this movie and a very good friend of Salman Khan revealed that, Salman literally persuaded to give him a role in this movie. “He was so much impressed with the plot, he wanted much bigger part. However, as it was not possible to add him in the existing story, I and Nishikant (director) created a scene just for him. Salman’s mother is a Marathi, he worked in this film for his mother, Ritesh added.

Ritesh narrated this incident recently. Jai Ho was being filmed at Ramoji Film City when I met him. He casually enquired what I was doing there? I told him about this story, he was very much impressed and wanted to work. How could you say no to Salman Khan? I said let me try something. After some days, we again met at the gym where he enquired about this project. I told Nishikant flatly to get something done; otherwise I would not be able to visit the gym again. We wrote a scene especially for him. As his mom is Marathi, he can speak the language fluently. After this scene, he wanted one more scene in the movie! When I said, this time it was really not possible. Sohail Khan commented that many people visit Bhai to work with them. First time he is demanding a role and you are saying no!

Ritesh also added that viewers will love Salman Khan in this movie. He has done a traditional Marathi getup with Dhotar, kurta and a cap. His mother is going to love him when she will see him in this dress.

Ritesh said, “This story was written by Sajid Nadiadwala for a hindi film, and he wanted to cast Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar seven years back. However, when it was decided to make this movie in Marathi, Amey Khopkar and Jitendra Thakare chose me in the lead role. This film is as good as Bollywood movie, it takes real guts to make this movie in Marathi. The promos of this film were released pan-India along with Hamshakals and Ek Villain. Many non-Marathi people are also enthusiastic about this movie. We are trying to release this movie at places where Marathi population is large like Gwalior, Indore, Baroda etc.
